View Full Version : Lambo door xB
BlueNRG 01-22-2004, 02:09 PM After 6 months of dealing with several lambo door companies, I have finally managed to get them on my xB. Vertical Doors Inc took on the job but it wasn't easy. The space between the chassis of the car and the body is only 3 inches or so. Not enough for the hinge to swing the door out far enough to go up. So we are currently making all new fiberglass fenders that will have a long vent where the hinge needs to come out. Another problem they had was the space between the two stock hinges was massive. Longer than the kit for the F-150. They had to re-design the whole hinge. Once the fenders are done the kit will be available but will be around $2,300.00. A couple of pics are one TeamScionWest.com, more to follow!
dinkjs 01-22-2004, 02:46 PM Thats alot of money and alot of work just for some doors to go in a different direction......id rather have suicide doors over vertical style doors any day of the week
Plus I think Vertical doors only look good on cars that actually came with them....that is my 5 cents worth
XBOXX 01-22-2004, 02:53 PM I think thats is awesome! Another example of how the Xb is really turning into a vehicle that the customizers love to play with! More power to the dreamers that love to tinker and modify! Id love to see a build up set of pics and , of course, the finished product! Thanks and keep up the good work! X BOXX
SimplifiedScion 01-22-2004, 03:15 PM i give you props for being the first with lambo doors... but personally i don't think it looks right... just my opinion though
squirrel 01-22-2004, 04:04 PM man, that's craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy! I can't wait to see it in person.
TheRedBox 01-22-2004, 04:50 PM
dont forget to show up results.
chillenn310 01-22-2004, 07:18 PM mayn, lambo doors??? thats a sick mod. I give you mad props Darrel for doing it. Your car is gonna look tyte. can't wait to see it.
tbblizzard 01-22-2004, 07:24 PM looks like you gotta shimmy into your car, doesn't leave you much room to get into it from the looks of the picture.
Exclusive 01-22-2004, 07:29 PM id rather have suicide doors over vertical style doors any day of the week
I agree, in fact might go with doing that later on. As for the lambo style doors, I think it looks good on some cars but not so on a xb. How do you install something that came from a $200K + sports car onto a $15K box sedan
randode 01-22-2004, 07:31 PM http://www.teamscionwest.com/lambo_doors/lambo_doors2.jpg
dinkjs 01-22-2004, 07:36 PM what a waste of money.....and so damn awkward to get into....people would be laughing there asses off at the person trying to get into the car
dinkjs 01-22-2004, 07:36 PM http://www.teamscionwest.com/lambo_doors/lambo_doors2.jpg
Why is there hood pins on a stock hood?
showpaojoe 01-22-2004, 07:38 PM ____, i wouldn't even try to get in that thing. damn thats crazy. is ryan gunna be doing it also?
Exclusive 01-22-2004, 07:39 PM Im not gonna talk bad about the whole thing cuz it really comes down to the person who is driving it. I think they put alot of time into that and deserve some credit on it. It looks nice and all but its just not something I would do to a $15k box. You just put over 10% of your car price into modding the doors. I just hope it was worth it.
Besk_one 01-22-2004, 07:44 PM i love the way those doors look on something like a supra, but sorry to say i think it looks butt-ugly on the xB, they don't flow right, and the short fat door makes it look really funny :(
glad you got them in a sponsored deal, i'l be ____SSSED if i spent $2300 + install and paint on that kit and then saw the final result - but that's just one guys opinion
i'm sure you'll get some points from the show judges tho for the originality :)
tbblizzard 01-22-2004, 07:44 PM Why is there hood pins on a stock hood?

JDMxB 01-22-2004, 07:45 PM Is that the door FULLY open?
Damn D, where do you get all the money to do these 3k+ mods to your car?!
camoscion 01-22-2004, 07:48 PM http://www.teamscionwest.com/lambo_doors/lambo_doors1.jpg
this looks cool but it not for me or some other people but i give you props for doing it. it was going to be done why not be the first.
DenZinz 01-22-2004, 07:48 PM Most custom show cars have mods worth way more than the car is worth...Thats the point! Thats why we customize our stock cars, we like to personalize it the way we want. I like vertical doors. Does it look right on the xB? I think so. It looks the same as it would be on any other car. Some people can argue that suicide door belong only on Hot Rods, but people do it.
All I can say is, good job Darrell... Your gonna steal the show with that mod hands down whether people like it or not.
scionaraxb 01-22-2004, 07:51 PM screw practical.......it's a show car. I think it'll set his car apart from all the rest. Don't let the haters get you down, nice job!
randode 01-22-2004, 07:53 PM why does everyone have to hate? so you dont like it, who cares. i think this will get the judges attention at the show, isnt that what its all about? i saw darrells car in person and it is wild. the doors swing out like stock too, so its not like he has to grease himself up to get in.
JDMxB 01-22-2004, 08:00 PM screw practical.......it's a show car. I think it'll set his car apart from all the rest. Don't let the haters get you down, nice job!
My sentiments exactly!
Red_Genie_xB 01-22-2004, 08:01 PM I think it look really nice
But seems like its harder to get out from the car now specially big guy like me
Then again, it will work perfect when you shop at place like 99 Ranch where the parking is sooo freaking small! :D :D
Besk_one 01-22-2004, 08:07 PM hey randode - i'm not hating, just voicing my opinion - i think it's rad he got sponsored and is the 1st to inovate with lambo doors even if i don't like it.
i've said it 1000 times here, if it's your thing, then DO IT and don't listen to people that don't feel your style, especially me ;)
scionaraxb 01-22-2004, 08:10 PM i'm not hating, just voicing my opinion - i think it's rad he got sponsored and is the 1st to inovate with lambo doors even if i don't like it.
i've said it 1000 times here, if it's your thing, then DO IT and don't listen to people that don't feel your style, especially me ;)
Right.....if someone doesn't like it.....then they won't be doing it to their car.
That's why they call it customizing and not standardizing!
DenZinz 01-22-2004, 08:11 PM why does everyone have to hate? so you dont like it, who cares. i think this will get the judges attention at the show, isnt that what its all about? i saw darrells car in person and it is wild. the doors swing out like stock too, so its not like he has to grease himself up to get in.
My thoughts exactly!
showpaojoe 01-22-2004, 08:19 PM I just want to know what's next. Suicide doors or it would be cool to do that to the hood also. Have it swing out diagnally at one hinge. Than do hydraulics and have everything posed at different angles.
no joke
guitar182 01-22-2004, 08:23 PM What lip do they have on the TSW xB with the Lambo doors??
randode 01-22-2004, 08:34 PM hey randode - i'm not hating, just voicing my opinion - i think it's rad he got sponsored and is the 1st to inovate with lambo doors even if i don't like it.

its cool. :D
westsype 01-22-2004, 08:47 PM Different but not my style. How about gullwing doors? Like the delauren.
XBBOY 01-22-2004, 08:52 PM Why is there hood pins on a stock hood?

If any of you Jokers have ever seen the car up close, that is not an stock hood, it's a cf hood that's been candied to match the color of the car. This car is for show and not a stocker like what most of us are driving. So big props to D for being the 1st to have lambo doors, it might not be for all, but it will score big points at the shows. Remember to always think outside the box and always be open to new ideas.
XBBOY 01-22-2004, 08:56 PM What lip do they have on the TSW xB with the Lambo doors??
That's the Red Genie lip and body kit...
BlueNRG 01-22-2004, 09:08 PM Thanks for all the comments, positve and negative. Its all about personal choice. I know people might not like it, do I care? Nope. I bought the xB because it was different, I like to unique. How many times do we as Scion owners get comments like "That is one ugly car", or "What were you thinking when you bought that?". I'm quite used to it and it doesn't bother me at all. The main reason why I wanted to do the lambo doors was for car shows, to stand out. Is the car hard to get into? Yes. Does it get peoples attention wherever I go? Hell yes. But its all for show baby! =)
I just can't look cool opening or closing the door =P
Besk_one 01-22-2004, 09:23 PM then it's all gravy baby! :) :) :)
Opr8r 01-22-2004, 09:33 PM How many times do we as Scion owners get comments like "That is one ugly car", or "What were you thinking when you bought that?". I'm quite used to it and it doesn't bother me at all
All the time. But the good definitely out-weighs the bad. Shouldn't it be about what you want anyways? Afterall, you're the one driving it. Congrats on the mod.
Peace,
m@
BlueNRG 01-22-2004, 09:35 PM Is that the door FULLY open?
Damn D, where do you get all the money to do these 3k+ mods to your car?!
You don't actually think I would spend $2300.00 on door hinges now do ya? =P
In that pic, the doors are set closer to the body, once its done, they can be made to swing open a little bit farther.
Actually the xB is the hardest car to date for Vertical Doors to make this conversion. It was in the shop for almost 2 weeks, and it still needs new fenders made. The hinge itself is awesome craftsmanship.
Cheshire_Cat 01-22-2004, 10:08 PM What's with all this negativity?
I stand behind Darrell by saying this is one of the best mods on a Scion I have ever seen. Darrell asked me personally to help him out when he decided to do this.
I went with him to drop off the car, I toured the factory where they make the hinges, and I went with him to pick up the car.
The work that was done is not an easy thing to do. I guess it's hard to understand when you're not involved with the project.
I give Darrell mad props for having the guts to do something like this.
I think it looks awesome and we should be supportive of each other, no matter what mods we do.
Sorry, Darrell.
But crap like that just really upsets me........
BlueNRG 01-22-2004, 10:12 PM Its ok Jason, I really dont mind. Its called constructive critisism. Its defiantely not a mod for everyone, especially at $2300.00. Its all good.
Besk_one 01-22-2004, 10:31 PM like i said before, you get mad props from me for inovating as the 1st xB with the lambo doors, even if i don't like the way they look. as long as your happy that's all that matters, and who knows when i see them in person i may change my tune - could just be the angle of the pictures, who knows?
but i don't see why anyone should not voice their opinion just becuase it's negative :?
glad you didn't take my post personally darrel, wasn't meant as such - i'm sure your ride will be getting a lot of attention for you and TSW at the shows, mos def a for show box!
BlueNRG 01-22-2004, 10:37 PM like i said before, you get mad props from me for inovating as the 1st xB with the lambo doors, even if i don't like the way they look. as long as your happy that's all that matters, and who knows when i see them in person i may change my tune - could just be the angle of the pictures, who knows?

Its all good man, I dont mind at all :)
Scionic 01-22-2004, 10:42 PM I think it looks awesome and we should be supportive of each other, no matter what mods we do.
But crap like that just really upsets me........
Whoa Jason, calm down bro....no need to get heated over it. This a forum and not everyone has to agree or be supportive. That's what I love about this place. I don't need people to be on my nuts about everything then it wouldn't we wouldn't progress as a group.
Love or hate.....it all motivates us to be better.
BTW Props D on the crazy mod. Personally not my thing but a great move if I wanted to place at the shows. And the best part is they gave you partial sponsorship so you didn't have to drop full pop on it.
TheRedBox 01-23-2004, 12:07 AM Love or hate.....it all motivates us to better.
That's the truth...
And I dont see anyone beating lambo doors for a while.
showpaojoe 01-23-2004, 12:33 AM He gets to do it first cuz he's the leader

Scionic 01-23-2004, 12:50 AM at LEAST make it rhyme.
C'mon Box it's Joe we talkin about. j/k Beside isn't that really from something?
showpaojoe 01-23-2004, 01:01 AM The Simpsons
Scionic 01-23-2004, 01:02 AM The Simpsons
lol....should have known.
squirrel 01-23-2004, 01:21 AM And I dont see anyone beating lambo doors for a while.
Ok, who's going to be the first w/ gullwing doors!?!
hnefrdo 01-23-2004, 01:52 AM that's hot. props to yu, man.
Docsnuff 01-23-2004, 01:57 AM what a waste of money.....and so damn awkward to get into....people would be laughing there asses off at the person trying to get into the car
Your opinion, like they have said on here, it is a show car, practicaltiy is not a catagory with show cars...otherwise a trunk mounted flat screen tv would come stock from the factory, and also, look who you are talking to, he is the Prez of TSW, you are a Noob trying to bag on all the people you can....
Doc
greenbox 01-23-2004, 03:12 AM just confirmed mine will be in soon for gulwing doors
xvolcomx88 01-23-2004, 04:35 AM how about suicide doors? :)
boxzila 01-23-2004, 05:27 AM Definitely a sick mod, Darrell! A couple of ideas for people who can't leave well enough alone:
-Suicide rear doors with the handles relocated, like the 60's Lincoln Continentals...
-Cut the rear hatch in half so the glass swings up and there's a tailgate that drops so you have somewhere to sit!
-Forward-tilt hood (or one piece front clip!) like the old 3-series BMWs
and, saving the best for last...
Chopped and sectioned- maybe even a canvas Carson top!!!
There's a list of stuff that hasn't (as far as I know) been done... get to it!
-Phil and Vicki
Bubonik_Kronik 01-23-2004, 05:36 AM Is there a way to get the doors to swing up by a remote button i.e. like a button on the alarm remote?
BlueNRG 01-23-2004, 07:09 AM ya you can, it takes either a linear actuator or a 700 pound shock along with a door popper. The problem with the actuator is its too damn slow. The problem with a 700 pound shock on a 40 pound door is that, yes it will go up by itself but trying to pull it down to close it will be nearly impossible. Hehe
Itsdchz 01-23-2004, 07:12 AM To be the first one always has its perils.
Sometimes people love to hate innovation.
Props to you for something different.
After building 3 show cars, I know your angle on why you did this. there will always be people who love it, and some who hate it. Please keep us updated! :P
WhiteToaster 01-23-2004, 07:30 AM That mod is pretty tight, you'll get plenty of attention..All you need now is a flux capacitor!
toybox1 01-23-2004, 08:46 AM ok ... gotta put in my 2 cents ....
on the mod: PROPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on hateing: i have taken so much crap on my cardomain site that i almost pulled it! :x the way i see it, if someone has the guts and love for a car to make it their own then by rights ya gotta give props .... i have seen so many cars that i though "what in the hell were they thinking" but had to give props cuz they CARED enough about their car to make it their own. in my mind thats the difference between a car lover and some rich preppy mo'fo who doesn't deserve what they drive ... love of all cars and respect for those who own them ....
once again, props on the doors ... that's just plain SIK!
HotBox 01-23-2004, 08:55 AM props on the mod but like you said its not for everyone id rather stick with the standard opening doors from the pics it seems like its kind of hard to get in but the thing i dont get is alot of yall critize people with hondas or as yall like to call them "ricers" for doing stuff like this but yall dont give them props just critize them but when a fellow scion owner does it its props galore dont get me wrong im not hating just wondering why if people take this the wrong way and start to talk smack then so be it i could careless but just wanted to know why yall like to critize "ricers"
Cheif_Thundercloud 01-23-2004, 12:51 PM It will do its job at the shows, Thumbs up on craftsmanship.
DjFrOsT 01-23-2004, 02:29 PM wow is all that can be said...i love the new look of D's box...dude...keep it up...you've been one of the front runners when it comes to mods...you have been one of the firsts for everything and anything...bro...that ish looks tight...i cant wait to see it in person...its gonna be phat to see that at show...
it looks http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_3.gif
XAonair 01-23-2004, 02:51 PM Must remind self to bring tools to next meeting i NEED the hinges off of that XB  heheheh Great job dude you beat me fair and square  LOL i just gotta be faster on the next mod LOL !!!! hopefully my silly lil xa will be the next lambo victim ...
MAD FREEKIN PROPS !!!
oh yeah STOP HATIN peeps geez man !!!!
George 01-23-2004, 06:40 PM Definitely a sick mod, Darrell! A couple of ideas for people who can't leave well enough alone:

cool ideas!
Suicide rear doors would requre some very stout hinges, as the hinge line would be shortened by the rear wheel well.
Cutting the hatch in half is cool too, and there is lots of room for the hinges there.
The above two ideas would bring cries of "Why didn't you just buy an Element?" :)
Tilt hood would be easy. The front end is almost one-piece as it is. This would be a good reason to invest in that ultra-light carbon fiber hood and fenders!
Chopped and sectioned? Kewl, but it would destroy the best features of the box!
George
scionaraxb 01-23-2004, 06:43 PM Chopped and sectioned? Kewl, but it would destroy the best features of the box!
George
I completely agree! I've photochopped an Xb and it look stupid chopped and sectioned.
George 01-23-2004, 06:47 PM http://www.teamscionwest.com/lambo_doors/lambo_doors1.jpg
this looks cool but it not for me or some other people but i give you props for doing it. it was going to be done why not be the first.
This looks neat! Do you have a picture of it with the door all the way open?
George
BlueNRG 01-23-2004, 07:34 PM It can open a little bit more but not much. I will have more pics after the fender is done.
George 01-23-2004, 08:16 PM It can open a little bit more but not much. I will have more pics after the fender is done.
Yow! Jenny Craig time! Still looks cool, though.
On the topic of gull wing doors, what would be really nice, since we are blue-skying, would be gull wings that fold inward at the bottom of the window as they open. doing that while retaining the roll-up windows would be a feat, though!
George
Very nice set-up, but I have to agree with red genie. How is a big guy like me going to get out of that little space. BIG MEXICAN over here, need more room to get out. :D
TheRedBox 01-27-2004, 04:30 PM Very nice set-up, but I have to agree with red genie. How is a big guy like me going to get out of that little space. BIG MEXICAN over here, need more room to get out. :D

bBted 01-27-2004, 04:58 PM BIG MEXICAN over here, need more room to get out. :D
thats true....HAHAHAA
krickle 01-27-2004, 05:07 PM Mad props to Darrell!!! I love it!! I think that it looks so wicked, like who would ever expect to see you open your door like "Back to the Future"!! I think that if I didn't own one of these and saw you get out of your car I would crap myself!!
And who ever made the comment that he got these because he is President is a bunch of ____!! He got these because he has worked his ___ off to figure out how to do it and because he has love for his car. He will impress the judges BIG time with these, that's the whole freakin point!!!
chillenn310 01-27-2004, 08:40 PM whoa.. Darrel your car looks pretty sweet.. are you satisfied with the outcome?? is there anyone with suicide doors on their xB??
BlueNRG 01-27-2004, 08:54 PM I like the way it looks. It's definately fun to see people faces when I park and get out of the car...hehe. Just alot of work yet to do, still working on the fenders. Once thats done the original plan was for suicide doors in the rear but I think that might change.
SGVside 02-17-2004, 06:51 PM Not my taste, but it looks alright. I think these "wings" or whatever you want to call it look better on a 2 door. Thats my opinion.
