Need to go with 17's due to the Xb being a Downtown "pothole" car. Would I still need to lower it or do they do a good job of filling in the space?

hotbox hit the nail on the head with that one... ____.

ive got 17s with 205-40-17 tires. it would fill it up better with 205-45-17s but i got mine in a package so no choice. im just saving up to lower it. its about the same as stock essentially but it makes it look odd still

that tire size is gonna mess yer miles up. it'll say yer putin 10 miles on yer car when inb reality yer only putin say 8 something miles.

Actually, if the tire is larger than the factory size the odometer will read less than what you actually drove. A larger tire means it has a larger circumfrence which translates into more distance for each revolution.

Anyhow, this is a pic of mine with 17s and no drop.

heres a better question- how does a stock xb look? ANSWER- it needs a drop!

So you can imagine how bad it looks with 17"+ wheels!

i would LOVE to drop mine, but with the winters we get here- thats not going to happen!

its actually the other way around i think, if the diameter is larger than stock (total) than the circumferance is larger, meaning the time it takes to make one full rotation, what your milage is based on is actually more than its calibrated to thin......thats why my former (read dead) s-10 read 55 when i was going 70 after the pre-runner transformation, switching from a 205 tire (27 in to a 30 in

Overall larger tire diameter than stock will log less miles and a slower speed without recalibration. For example:

Stock (185/60/15) Vs. 17's (205/45/17)
60 mph Vs. 58.7 mph
100 miles Vs. 97.8 miles

Speedometer difference would be 2.192 % too slow, and Diameter Difference is +2.15%.

Here was mine 17 x 7 205/45/17, Just sold wheels & ordered DF210,s new wheels soon to come. It was too much of a gap for me, it did ride nice though.

what i meant was that 205/40/17's are too smalle meaning your speedo will say 70mph but you'll only be going like 65 or so meaning yer car will say u drove 10 miles but only covered like8 somethin miles in actuality lol

what i meant was that 205/40/17's are too small meaning your speedo will say 70mph but you'll only be going like 65 or so meaning yer car will say u drove 10 miles but only covered like 8 somethin miles in actuality lol
Close but no cigar. 205/40/17 is like .3% smaller than the oem size tires and 215/40/17 is .3% larger diameter so either is the correct size for the box and your speedo will be off by like 1 MPH either way. As far as lowering is concerned, It looks like it is lowered from the factory. I get asked daily if it has been lowered and I say "no it is factory height". 8)

17's with a 2 inch drop would look clean IMO

I think you can get away with not dropping an xB

An xA is another story....

My xB is on 225/40/18, stock springs, looks fine....

If anything I would get TRD's just for better cornering.

I agree, to say it will look ____ty is jsut an opinion. and sometime like here in Cleveland, dropping it would be stupid of me to do. So when I get some 17's, its gonna stay stock.

If anyone is interested in seeing how different wheels would work check out this link. You can see different rims at different heights

the car will look good - the wheels will look good. but together? it'll look like your car needs to be lowered.

Looks OK, But good luck driving on Cleveland streets sitting that low. And the photo comaparo taken that low over exaggerates the gap at stock height. If the wheelwells were painted black it would look great at stock height. That's the SWEET thing about the box, it looks lowered from the factory because of the ground effects but is still safe to drive in most situations :P
