I dont know what the deal is, but for the first time ever on my car I took the door panels off to run new speaker wire to the doors, and there was water inside the door panel, and the speakers were wet. Is this normal? I would think not, but im not really sure. I left the speakers out for now, because im afraid.

Water in the doors is normal. That's why there are drain holes near the bottom edge and why there's plastic sheathing between the door frame and the interior panel.

ooooh put the car back together and give your dealer a call and say your carpet was wet. its probably the vapor barrier that is letting water in that far.

Ok. It looks like there might be a communication breakdown here. Is there water in the door itself on the backside of the speaker or behind the interior panel on the front of the speaker. Back is normal, front is bad.

I never let anyone install stuff in my car where speed of installation takes priority over quality of installation. :P

You can fix or replace the vapor barrier. Dynamat is not supposed to be a replacement for the vapor barrier.

so when installing the dynamat ur saying, they just put it over the vapor barrier?

I would hope not. Dynamat is not very effective unless it's applied directly to the surface.

Water on the speaker may or may not be a good thing. It depends on where the water actually reached. If it didn't work it's way into the spiker and voice coils then it's alright. Car speakers are made to withstand harsh conditions. However, and I'm still looking for some myself, I would recommend finding or making a shield to go over the top of the speaker so falling water can't hit the speaker directly.

it was just wet on the back of the magnet. and on the passenger side speaker it was actually a little wet where u attach the wire too.. and on the gold screw it had some weird stuff on it that wipped right off...

It probably didn't hurt anything, but it's not a good idea either. I've seen drip shields that cover the top half of the speaker inside the door. this might be a good idea for your speakers. it's nothing elaborate and you could probably do the same thing with a sheet of thick but flexible plastic. Just tape it to the door panel above the speaker and let it drape over the back of the speaker. Don't get into trying to seal things completely, as all this usually does is to seal moisture in!

Glad press and seal wrap could help repair the vapor barrier...

Just make sure to cut the bottom out so it forms a shield instead of enclosing the entire speaker, or your sound will suck. BTDT. I use these in my Miata. I cut the bottom third of the foam enclosure out after trying it with the entire enclosure and getting crap sound.

looks like circut city owes you a vapor barrier. thats te only effective way to keep moisture from coroding the contacts

yes, they really should owe me new vapor barier, but like you just said, since the dynamat is being applied to bare metal, the vapor barrier gets ripped off anyways. Can someone tell me for sure, if the vapor barrier gets remoeved to put dynamat on? I want to know for sure, before I go to circuit city and complain.

You should have your door panel off to do your wiring. Just look and see.

Look in the door for the Dynamat. If you see it and it's stuck and follows the curves of the panel then it's stuck to it. It you can see your vapor barrier over the Dynamat then the Dynamat is on the metal.

the dynmat isnt even installed yet lol... im getting it installed soon, but im asking if the vapor barrier gets removed for it.. and the dynmat acts like a barrier as well. Or do u take off the dynamat and put the vapor barrier on top of it.

That makes it easy, just ask how and where they are going to install it when you take it in. It's your car, you have every right to ask. If they don't tell you or you don't like the answer, don't get it done there. You can always do it yourself. It's just peel and stick stuff.

I ripped off the little plastic thing but I cut out a piece for the BIG hole and barely taped it onto the panel. Did this so the dynamat won't touch the window. Other then that the whole thing was bare. I even put dynamat over the plasitc piece I cut out. Also put an extra layer over the area surrounding the speaker hole.
