NJthunder5spd 01-09-2005, 08:31 PM i decided to copy lowbox's idea for the celica hood conversion
http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31076&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=celica+hood
here she is not painted yet cause i was doing a final test fit. i have a little bit of sanding left to do before i throw a coat of paint on her but she looks fantastic as she sits

i have a few step by step pics to add later
mfbenson 01-09-2005, 08:34 PM Let me get this straight... does the celica hood actually fit the xB???? Or are you just saying that it is the Celica-STYLE of hood?
NJthunder5spd 01-09-2005, 08:38 PM no i did like lowbox did to his hood... i took a stock xb hood and a stock celica gt hood n cut the centers out of both.. welded the gt center into my xb hood n whalah!
hotbox05 01-09-2005, 08:42 PM looks good both of ya'll made awesome lookin hoods. i love it.
Munch 01-09-2005, 08:46 PM Someone needs to mass produce this hood. I want one :D It's Sweet 8)
mfbenson 01-09-2005, 08:48 PM "i took a stock xb hood and a stock celica gt hood n cut the centers out of both.. welded the gt center into my xb hood n whalah!"
Got it. Thanks. Sweet mod, BTW...

ive been contemplating making a fiberglass mold to make either fiberglass or carbon fiber copies
my friends uncle builds boats so he works with both materials.. gonna try to persuade him to get to work.. haha
RageStevens 01-10-2005, 12:01 AM That hood kicks booty, I want, I want, I want.....Mass produce that hood and I am shure everyone will want one including me. I think it has the best profile out of all the hoods Iv seen....NICE JOB ! :
hotbox05 01-10-2005, 01:04 AM yeah a cf version would rock hard!!!! id love a fiberglass one too.
Max2k 01-10-2005, 01:11 AM That's not the only thing you copied.
superjeer 01-10-2005, 01:25 AM Wow, call that xB "Bee" for short, cause it's busy!
I really like the hood!
Besk_one 01-10-2005, 01:36 AM i must say that's a really nice job there - so far the only vented hood that i think looks "right" on the box, accentuates the lines very nicely, and not too overboard to make it look taky or gross
excellent mod!

windowtint 01-10-2005, 04:54 AM That's not the only thing you copied.
what else???
It's damn near impossible do something that's not already been done by someone else unless you starting getting a little crazy (like lowbox did with his hood)
He did give Lowbox credit right off the bat.

thanks window..
yes i always give credit where credit is due.
i have made frame braces that were similar to other companies.. but not copies cause mine used different tubing.
or do u mean the foglight vent that i had previously stated as being a good idea n that i would copy it
or the aftermarket fogs down below that are similar to lowbox's? which i didnt copy..ive had that idea for a while but didnt wanna do it until i sold my factory set of foglights
windowtint 01-10-2005, 05:41 AM .......not to mention that I myself said in Lowbox's thread a few months back, that when Igot around to finding the time, I too was gonna rip his design off ... make a few changes I think that would improve the design, to make it mine - but no mistaking where the idea came from.
silkywilson 01-10-2005, 06:30 PM thats HOT.. I want one in CF and paint the little top dealio to match my factory BSP..
SWiSS 01-10-2005, 07:24 PM i just stared for a few minutes til i felt the drool drop!
snuppy 01-10-2005, 08:49 PM sweet hood!.. the front end looks MEAN!... lotsa stuff going on, but looks ultra-clean... nice job!...
Max2k 01-10-2005, 09:45 PM It's cool, I could really give a "cit" (no swearing, i'll just make like the moderators) about what people do to their cars.
dzcustom 01-11-2005, 04:39 AM Love the hood. Skills...
Where did you get those fog lights??
NJthunder5spd 01-11-2005, 05:24 AM actually a cheapy set from walmart.. like $30 i think they were

If you need any help let me know!
Code3_xB 01-13-2005, 05:20 AM WOW - that looks GREAT!
As far as copying - I thought that was the sincerest form of flattery?? But these days, people get ____ed off about it. Stoopid thing to get the panties bunched up over i think.
Damn.. the more i look at it, the more i like it.
So what was your cost on this?
dajap 01-13-2005, 05:37 AM Man that hood is sweet! good job putting it together, seems to fit perfect. Now the BIG question is who's gonna replicate and produce a Carbon Fiber one.....maybe bBist?
squirrel 01-14-2005, 06:24 AM Wow, that is going to look really nice once it has a few coats of color and clear on it. CONGRATS!
Phaze23LBC 01-15-2005, 12:38 AM Ok fellas, this is damn hot!! After i mopped up all the drool and was able to type again, I decided I have to ask you, "What year Celica did you guys use for this Celica GT scoop?" I can't stop looking at this hood yo! I feel like Homer "MMMMmm Celica hood scoop conversion...aaaaarrrrggghhaaaaarrgghhhhaaaaaaa!" Damn, keep drooling...
Victor
lowbox 01-17-2005, 09:17 PM i used a 02 gt the guy put a carbon fiber one on , so i bought his stocker for $ 150.00
joescionwv 01-17-2005, 10:35 PM hey Remember you said that it would take about 800 to make well I'll give you nine if you make me one lowbox got the money to spare
hotbox05 01-18-2005, 10:32 AM cant wait for a cf one , should be way cheaper than 800. scrap hoods can be found for cheap guys , if ya know where to go.
Denstyr 01-18-2005, 07:01 PM the scrap hood may be cheap, like $100-$200, but then you gotta put the effort into it... That's why things cost money...
hotbox05 01-18-2005, 08:14 PM oh this i know but i work on my own car for free . lol , a cf one will have significantly less labor and will be much cheaper and easier.
Denstyr 01-18-2005, 08:25 PM you think it will be easy to manufacture a carbon fiber hood, like this one, by yourself?
kacosta 01-18-2005, 08:40 PM i thought xbs looked dumb with hoodscoops .....untill now VERY good job more pics please
shinkuu 01-18-2005, 09:06 PM looks great. one of the best hoods ive seen for the box. got a top down picture?
hotbox05 01-19-2005, 07:04 AM you think it will be easy to manufacture a carbon fiber hood, like this one, by yourself?i didnt say i would lay the cf , i'm saying it'd be alot cheaper and easier to reproduce them in cf versus two hoods with labor and such.
dajap 01-19-2005, 05:21 PM Man after debating wether or not to get the normal bbist hood or the vented my friend tells me that i can have his celica hood for free!! Now the option to do this hood is in my head, how much for a stock xb hood?? anybody...
windowtint 01-20-2005, 01:52 AM call the dealer parts dept.
Denstyr 01-21-2005, 12:27 AM My bad hotbox, I thought you were implying that you were gonna do it yourself, b/c you said you work on your own car.
nunspa 01-21-2005, 12:48 PM Man this hood looks sooooo good....
 Sweet
Any idea if you are going to make copies? also would you mind if others did this on their own...
I don't like taking ideas unless its ok with the original creator
Pb
Fujiz_xb 01-21-2005, 01:33 PM the fuji like the hood..im not cutting anything..ill buy a premade one in carbon fiber or just paint it black..but that is one sexy hood
Denstyr 01-21-2005, 06:52 PM too bad you can't find a pre-made one yet. He got the idea from lowbox, and then made it himself. So for now, if you want one, ya gotta MAKE one.
Fujiz_xb 01-21-2005, 07:08 PM ill wait out.
Denstyr 01-21-2005, 07:47 PM I don't blame you!
Tamago 01-21-2005, 08:01 PM IMO that would look better on an xA but still, very nice work
windowtint 02-25-2005, 02:03 AM the scrap hood may be cheap, like $100-$200, but then you gotta put the effort into it... That's why things cost money...
Raising old threads from the dead!! :lalala:
I ordered several hoods/parts from the parts dept. today. The xB hood NEW wholesale was only $150 and no tax (so retail would be what?? $180ish...). That's still cheap even retail. Asked about the Celica hood price - NEW you're looking about $250ish. Even at a junk yard, you'll be lucky to get either of those parts for that price if in perfect new condition.
For a change - something at the dealer is CHEAP!
If you're worth a crap at body work and have a TAX ID#, you could make the hood for $450ish (or only $300 if you don't mind cutting up your stock hood). $400 for the 2 hoods and $50 for the paint (and this is assuming you don't have to buy any tools, welders, sprayers etc...).
I'd rather layout $300-450 or so for a good steel hood than $300 for a flimsy plastic hood.
RageStevens 02-25-2005, 04:06 AM I'd rather layout $300-450 or so for a good steel hood than $300 for a flimsy plastic hood.
I hear that .
SuperMario6582 02-25-2005, 04:21 AM Wow! That looks hot man. Nice job!
richdog 02-26-2005, 12:55 PM For the both of you guys who built the hood..........keep up the great modding       That is one baad MUTHA........
xoBkcalb 02-26-2005, 02:58 PM  very sweet i think this is something i will have to do my self . some times you got to bite.
zinczipper 02-26-2005, 03:37 PM ..me likes tha hood
wedgiesaurus 02-28-2005, 01:32 PM that thing is really sweet. you should see if you can get it to a place where they can mass produce it- tell them you have a significant customer base (show them this thread) and make em pay ya for the design!!

heme11 03-04-2005, 06:19 AM looks hot! what grill is that? thanks!
NJthunder5spd 03-09-2005, 06:34 PM i have the original vizages grille n eyelids.. they make a whole different bodykit now that im not exactly partial to. they should have stayed with the original kit
