I just got a Tc i was wondering if the cold air intake was wroth it
the car has got some good power now but i am always looking for more

It's one of the many steps to opening up the lungs on your tC. A good start just don't let the bug bite you :twisted:

heh the stock airbox is a cold air intake, it's just more restrictive in the filtering and piping than an aftermarket intake - I was like "whaaaa??" and went out to check and whaddya know, the stock intake goes down into the front left fender area.... although it'd be a whole lot better in the front of the car IMO but it's not too accomodating for that space-wise

I'd say go for it if you're not getting forced induction since it will most likely not work with whatever you go with, but I would also say wait until the big guys come out with their intakes....

Intakes are not worth the $$$ on their own. If you modify your engine to the point where it needs a more air than the stock air box can efficiently supply, that's the time to change your intake. An aftermarket intake on a stock tC would offer minimal to no gains in power.

I agree to disagree. If the factory could make the intake system quietier to sacrfice some ponies they will. PM water dragon and see how he likes his K&N.

i disagree, if you're looking for more power an intake is one of the best mods you can do to your car first. what type of power mod would you buy for around the same price?

a CAI for the TC is making more WHP then catback exhaust system (which is almost double the price) & also increases the MPG.

Additionally, slapping a cat-back exhaust on a factory car saps more horsepower than it gains, at least to my understanding.

adding an intake without any other type of performance mod and you're really not going to notice much of a difference in performance...it will sound MUCH better though

Check this out mike just the intake alone.. i know its not a TC but intakes are not worthless .

increase air intake without increase in fuel = leaning out (possible detonation)
increase in air intake with increase in fuel = safe A/F ratio ( more power )

This topic is not just on this website, but I imagine on all the different websites for all the different vehicles. Everyone has there opinion and you know what they say about opinions. Take everything said with a grain of salt and make your own decisions about intakes. Try one out if you don't like it put the stock air box back on.

The dealer I went to told me it would add about 5-7hp. Which is inloine with what I had thought previously.

It's all depends on how restictive the stock intake is. Some car will gain more hp with CAI because the stock is very restrictive, which worth the mods.

The real reason most people put them on is it sounds cool, and you'll feel a little more response in the pedal.

Which may or may not be true, but your car will be just a little bit more fun to drive with an intake.

The ECU adjusts to the extra air and adds more fuel.

Would an aftermarket CAI work for an auto tC just the same as a manual tC?

yes, why would transmission have anything to do with an intake?

no need for me to argue about intakes and exhaust here. all i see here is a bunch of ricers. just like me tryin to argue about the drop in HID kits than doing the HID lens retro-fit.

well anyways you like the intake then put it on, it has proven a little bit of power added to the wheels. you have the money then do it!! i will get one sooner or later also myself. :P


No offence to the people that knows what they are talking about....

i added headers and exhaust and it didnt do much but when i put my cold air on it blew it up......intake is what that car really needs, the stock intake has a triple element and the damn thing cant breath....its like running a marathon with a pillow on your face
