Default Tire noise for you Seattlelites

Ok so maybe I'm getting old or i'm just a pansy, but roads near seattle suck pretty badly. And I was wondering how the tire noise is for other ppl that use the I-5 around downtown seattle?
I have a stock suspension with those 18' Enkei rims from scion along with the Bridgestone Potenza all season tires. And in my opinion the road noise is ridiculously loud in side the car going at 70mph.

Wondering what other ppl's setups were and how the road noise is for them? I heard from someone that if i had smaller rims and larger tires (more sidewall?) the road noise will be less, is that true?

not so much sidewall height that produces less noise, but brand and type of tire,my Neo Gens are actually quite quiet unless I put it into corners hard, then they make a noise that gives you the creeps the first few times you hear it.....lol.

The Bridgestones are noisy tires, bad traction,no cornering ability, dont give up on 18s,just find a better tire,Toyos are good sound wise as are Nittos, there are others that are not high on tire noise also that are good and sticky.

Nitto Neogen is what I have on mine.Nitto makes a few differant types of tires, but the Neo Gens are a great all around tire,

Larry has the Proxy 4s I think on his and they are fairly quiet, but grip really good in corners too.

The Neo Gens have a very agressive tread pattern that looks sporty too, think Brad has about 25000 miles on his and they still grip good.

I prefer Yokhamas & BF Goodrich myself. Had really good luck with the Parada Spec-2's and hear that the S-drives rock as well. Don't care for the Falken Ziex's, Toyo proxes fz4's...

Yeah I don't like the Falkens either, that is what was on the Yaris rims and they never felt right, but they were also at the endof their life too.....probably about 30000 miles on them.....lol

What speed rating are your tires? W? V? Y? The higher the speed rating the stiffer the tire, witch general causes more road noise. Also nitto and toyo are the same company..

yeah... actually prolly the best addition would be to get some sound deadener and at least coat the wheel well/fire wall areas... if not more.... the liquid E-dead by elemental designs is what Bzinn and i have in ours...... well i also have a crap load of dynamat extreme too.... but the e-dead is paint on stuff.. easier to apply and does good stuff

Continental extreme contacts w/ h-techs on my tC provide a real rough ride via I-5.. even some spots on 405 are bad for me.

Some of the best tires I have owned were and are made by Nitto they are great.

As for Nitto being owned by Toyo anyone know if that is true, even if it is the brands have distinct products too, Firestone for example owns Bridgestone but Bridgestone’s products are a lot better than those that are sold under the Firestone name.

When it comes to tires it is not necessarily one brand being better than the other. Each brand has products that are good, usually If you stay away from the stuff at the lowest price point most people will be fine.
