Drive '06 Scion tC...Local shop worked on my car, afterwards I noticed my glove box not opening slowly but just dropping open instead. Dealership said the piece that allowed it to do this was missing. Guy worked on my car has nothing leftover.. What piece is this and could I get a picture/DIY on how to find where it goes? I took my glovebox off but didnt see anywhere a piece that does such a job would be missing from. Not a huge deal, but I thought it was awesome that the glovebox opened slowly like that. Yes, I did a search, but didn't really find anything...Thanks in advance!

there is a "shock" that attaches to the dash and glove box that allows it to drop slowly. its probably only a couple bucks at the dealership.

Sometimes that 'shock' may come off the glove box and still be attached to the dash piece. Check it out.

Likely cause, as that's happened to me a few times...I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to keep it attached to the door, it keeps slipping off.

it is located right side of the glove box. Last time i was replacing the cabin filer. My dad closed the glove box. that piece 'shock' came off was under the passenger seat

Thanks so much guys I'll ask em @ the dealership I took my glovebox half off and see exactly where it goes. Not as hard as I thought it would be. Does look like a cheap piece too, nothing too extensive or metal.

^^But it is the dealership. Lube appropriately.

My girl has a Matrix. It has the same shock but Toyota attached a screw to it so it wouldn't slip off.
I don't know why they didn't do that for the Scions.

oh, I forgot to ask. Is this piece only found in 2006 model tC's? I read the 08+ doesn't have it.

When I bought the car I didn't even realize the glovebox was supposed to open up slowly... I just assumed that's the way it worked.
