...you were looking for a vehicle that would help curb how many court appearances you go to for speeding?

No, but it is good for that.

I go 80mph on the way to work, so it helps that the xB looks slow.

Well not really... But I did trade in a 180hp Matrix XRS

I never got speeding tickets, but then again, I never drove fast at all!

That's why i traded it, didn't need the power, just the cargo space.

The xB has more space and looks better! Who cares if it's slow :D

I have a sport bike so I could drive a 1963 VW bus and it wouldenr curb my appearances in court for speeding..

I used to drive a modified WRX, so yes, and because it was just plain cheaper.

Well, you could get a speeding ticket in a Yugo if you drove it fast enough... You don't need 400,000,000 hp to get tickets...

So to answer the original post again.... No.

You can get speeding tickets in anything. I felt a lot more under the radar in my Echo or Toyota pickups. The Box draws attention regardless of the speed you're going and since there's so few around is harder to blend in.

So far, no tickets in the Box... (knocking on wood) although I'm probably eligible for one whenever I'm behind the wheel  I only need 3 more units to get my Master's Degree in Traffic School...

I got it for some very practical, adult reasons like that it can carry the stuff I need to carry and so forth, but also because it looks really cool.

As for speeding, I agree with the others that you can get tickets in anything. If I drive the xB down a residential street at 40mph and a cop sees me do it I think there will be trouble. (if I drive 85 on Detroit freeways I simply blend in with everyone else).

But I bet the box reflects a healthy signal back to a radar gun! (anyone know how the box stacks up on the subject of radar signatures?)

I actually got it so I could get the attention of police. It worked! I landed a speeding ticket 2 months after I got the Box. My first in 4 years.

A year later, I got tired of it and crashed it into a Saturn. I never liked Saturns anyway.

Ahhhh, my ol' XB. Those were the days.

THAT was the first real laugh I have had in a long time.

I got the Box because...

Well, it's ugly. And ugly rules.

I got mine for leg room. price. options looks. reliability. (in no particular order).

in my old '84 topaz and I got pulled over two different times on residential streets goin around 40 :D .

the xB is a huge change for me, power everything, a CD player (that I don't need a dinky cassette adapter for ;) ), and in my topaz the speedometer only went up to 85, I barely ever took it past 80 casue the engine noise was unbearable, the xB does 80 no problem compared to that. Plus I go to school in AZ and go home for the summer so it has nice storage room for that, and it came with AC standard...all the other manufacturers it had to be added.

I just think it was a really good value. i guess

I bought mine because I wanted a small wagon with decent handling and fun-to-drive factor and reasonable passenger room. There are few choices in that department in the U.S. market. I tried them all and the xB came closest to meeting all my requirements and on top of that it was $1000's cheaper than anything else I considered and got better fuel mileage.

Easy decision.

I don't actually have it yet, but the main reason is because i am looking at retiring my beater, and i want an inexpensive but cool looking daily driver so i dont run my bug into the ground commuting.

As for speeding tickets? Hmm.. the best way to avoid those is get a nice set of boobs

I got mine because
1) it was a box, come on...
2)I had a bet with a friend who would get one first..I won
3)it wasnt a civic
4)it wasnt a civic
5)I fit

and plenty of other reasons, but the first time i got a speeding ticket was in my scion, doing 70 in a 25 (dont get mad it shouldnt have been a 25, some industrial road no one else on it  ) i got to talking to the cop and he loved the car he gave me the ticket for 35 in a 25. so yes i got the scion to get out of tickets lol

My first impression was that the Xb was a kind of modern retro car. Later, when my Legend died, I needed a car fast so it was because the price was just right. Now....I love the car. I think it is just plain cool. And it's not slow! You can still go 80 mph on the freeway quite easily! It may not be a race car but it can still break the speed limit! But you do it in style!

well.... my point was that I feel so much more inclined to just cruise and go with the flow in my xB. my new beetle had incredible highway speed acceleration, and with my 17x8's gripped the road like hell. every morning and afternoon commuting to and from work inevitably turned into a race! :D

now i feel much more inclined to just lean back with a "look at me" attitude ;)

But I bet the box reflects a healthy signal back to a radar gun! (anyone know how the box stacks up on the subject of radar signatures?)

I was travelling home from work one day and saw one of those radar trailers that displays your speed. There wasn't anyone close enough, in my opinion, that it should have picked up. It registered less than the speed my speedo indicated, and when I was near and directly in front where I was positive it was pointing at my car only it dropped another 3 MPH. I think the boxiness and sharp angles might work slightly like stealth technology.

I got rid of my 260whp Eclipse... and I did get quite a few speeding tickets, but I'm boost happy. I loved the feeling, but I just had to get it up there. It's a shame that you're going so fast when you're boosting. ;)

Well, I hated the xB until I actually drove it. It's so much fun to drive that I have a blast going 35mph. I must be getting old. :(

Tee Hee :-)
I got it because
1) my 98 hp 1995 Ford Escort dies (cracked head)
2) I was car shopping with the fiance' (male version) and he got the xA. I wanted him to get the xB. So, his car was on order when my car died. Woo Hoo! I get my car!

It is close enough for my needs. I wanted more cargo space behind the back seats for the doggies. Alas, its pretty much either or. I love the ride. However I'm finding the MPG disappointing at 29 mpg highway and 24 city.

...you were looking for a vehicle that would help curb how many court appearances you go to for speeding?
I forgot to mention its been about 10 years since my last ticket and I speed all the time. The key is not to speed on the street, only on highways and stay with the traffic. If the road is open, keep your eyes open and don't go over 10 over. Works for me.

my tickets were all just bouts of bad luck.... all were on roads i had been on a million times before, all with speed traps i had memorized - and subsequently all tickets a result of being distracted (phone, sleep deprivation, etc. whilst going through said traps)

Certainly seems so! This is evidence in favor of the theory that the xB helps prevent speeding tickets, by fooling the radar.

(either that, or the speedo is not calibrated correctly?)

Price of the xB: $15,000
Price of the mods for the xB: $5,000

Previous car=
Ford Excursion 9 miles to gallon..Weekly gas $72.00
Monthly payment $ 465.00
Insurance $ 190 month
TOTAL MONTHLY = $ 955.00 (+ -)

Xb= gas= $ 17.00 weekly
Monthly payments= $ 325.00
Insurance=$ 180 month
TOTAL MONTHLY= $ 600.00 (+ -)

TOTAL SAVINGS= $ 355.00 a month!!!!

And I like the way it looks and rides!

My old car was a 400+ HP LT1 powered Caprice....

I did not get tickets because the cops all new me from my car and my plates....

However I am picking up my brand new xB today at about 5 pm. I made my decision based on

1: mpg (I used to get 10-15 burning premium)
2: interior space (seating space mostly)
3: Toyota reliability
4: low purchase price
5: unique looks

i know what you mean! my SI is not fast at all but it is lightly modded and feels quick, so its fun to drive. back when i first got it i had a 30-40 mile commute to work.. well i formed an addiction to speed (not the drug!) and just HAD to top it out every morning for a month. i have no idea how i never got any tickets or wrecked. it tops out at ~138-142, maybe more if youre on a long hill ;) if anyone cares. i guess its good that i couldnt ever afford boost. after driving a friends boosted MR2 i was instantly addicted. i surely would of killed myself with enough boost.

im hoping that the xB will put me into that chill mood. now if i can just get financed....

STEALTH TECH !!!
I can`t believe it, ANOTHER reason to have an xB!!
also:
I had 4 Honda`s in a row, extremely boring.
I can`t wait until Im able to turn it into a WOODY !!
The way it drives, its fun/quick/turns great.
Gas Mileage
Space and Roomy seating.
It reminded me of a Milk Truck or Ice cream truck. ( But the other day I saw a white xB with a big RED CROSS on it, a medical delivery truck. I love that!)
Cool Stereo and amount of speakers .
Im a MUCH more Relaxed driver- I dont get angry because a taller truck blocks my view ahead.
Im able to go as fast as I want and keep up with traffic and do inclines nicely.
Its a Toyota
