Default Vibration in dash of Scion xD

I posted back aroung the middle of March about the vibration and rattles in the dash of my xD. I contacted Scion at www.scion.com and got a phone call from a representative who had been on the phone with the Toyota dealer where my car was bought. Toyota called and made an appointment to get the car in. The service manager was able to make the dash vibrate by slowly applying pressure to the gas while the car was parked. They had the car for 7 days and thought the problem was solved but after two days home, the vibration started again. They didn't take the dash out, only the radio and tried to pad it that way. Now that it's vibrating again, they are going to call Toyota and see what the next step is and that will probably be to take the car back and they will have to remove the dash and pad the whole inside. It's frustrating because the dash vibrates at any given time and at no specific time so it's hard to just take the car when it's doing it's thing because 99% of the time, it stops before we get to the garage. Like I said in my earlier post, if all who are having this problem would please just report it to Scion, they will eventually recall the cars and compare notes with each of the garages and get to the bottom of the vibration. It can be very annoying at times and a new car should not rattle and vibrate.

I get a creaking sound that comes and goes, but it sounds like it's coming from up top and not the dash. Another person who drove with me thought it came from the top too. It comes and goes randomly.

Is there a specific area that it rattles, or is it the whole entire dash soxmobile?

When did you buy the car? I wonder if they tried fixing this later in the first model year. I have a RS1 that I bought in Oct I believe, and it doesn't rattle at all.

I recently replaced the radio and noticed there was foam in between the vents and the dash. I read some people had this done as the dealer, but I've never taken it in for rattles.

The only thing I get is a vibration on the passenger door from the radio. But I will fix that with sound deadening.

Sorry to take so long but just got around to reading the messages. The rattle in through the whole dash. The dealer had the car for 7 days, thought the problem was taken care of and then two days after we got it back, it started up again. They just took the car back into the garage yesterday and are continuing the padding of the underneath of the dash to try to alliviate the vibration. It's so frustrating because as we drove the car to the dealer yesterday, it vibrated all the way. After we got there and the service manager got to us, we went for a ride and it would not vibrate to save it's soul.

i just spoke with a scion representative on the scionchat:

GVan: If it's something that we are hearing from customers more and more it can go into review for a possible recall. As of now, Scion doesn't have any recalls on our products.

we should report this in..

mine rattles. I don't care. it rattles primarily on the right side in the windshield. I heard it's an AC duct or somethin. I also stuffed towels down in the doors above the speakers to stop that rattle too.

I've been posting on this for some time - when the car warms up the dash vibrates less that is why when you get to the dealer the sound mysteriously vanishes. Try leaving the car at the dealer overnight and then start it in the morning with them. Oh yea it'll vibrate then. Please let us know what they finally do for you, and whether or not you found a TSB on the issue.

As it stands right now, the dealer talked with a Toyota rep and they are ordering new pads for under the dash. I'll know more in a couple of weeks when the part comes in and they install it. My car doesn't care if it's hot or cold, it just vibrates in either temperature. It was at the dealer for 7 days the first time and there were times they got it to vibrate and times they couldn't. The next time, it was at the dealer for 4 days, thought they had it fixed but other rattles cropped up along with the previous ones. I will post when the problem is fixed and let you know what finally worked.

i'll tell yall what fixes this. not towels in behind the panels, cause the wife will at some point want to know where her spare towels are...foam tape. 1/2" wide x 1/2" thick foam tape from lowes. take off the door and dash panels and put foam tape on anything that looks like it might possibly touch anything else. i went thru 2 big rolls of it, but...no more rattles. also, under the dash where the center air duct comes from the windshield base to the dash vents its attached loosely by two tabs. use some F4 tape or elect. tape and cinch them down with it, that was the worst of the rattles. i have some pics, ill try and post when i get home. foam tape=quiet. (doesn't help with the wicked road noise thought)

Yes, of course this is the main culprit.
It is amazing there is no TSB for this.

There's 3 screws and the rest is just pulling the panel off by hand. Just be careful not to lose the plastic clips because they fly off as you pop off the panel. First screw is behind the inside door handle - there's a little plastic circle you pop off with a flathead and the screw is behind that. The second one is in the arm rest. There's a thin pad in there, just lift it up and the screw is right there. As for the third one I can't particularly remember where it was so maybe I'm making it up? Just look around the edges of the panel to make sure
