Default tC cabin filter?

does the tC have a cabin filter? I was reading the writeup on the DIY filter for the xB and it sounds like a simple but effective idea.

No it does not, but if you buy a filter for a Camry, it fits perfectly after trimming about a 1/4 inch of the pleated filter off. I did it.

Yes, you can put a filter in, not sure which ones, but some toyota filters will fit perfectly. Take out the glovebox and you will see the filter tray. Either get a filter from the dealer and put it in, or make your own filter out of a big 3M ac filter

in either scionlife's diy section or in clubsciontc.com's diy section; there is a really good diy guide on how to do this

Get a 3M filter from Home Depot and cut it to fit yourself, don't pay the ridiculous price for a Toyota filter at the dealership.

this is a bad idea. when i installed my fuel kill switch i noticed the cabin air setup (cuz i had the glovebox out).

so i went to my parts guy and told him to give me a cabin filter, since mine was empty.

the toyota/scion parts department manual says (roughly) "A cabin air filter can not be retrofited for the tC"

as others have stated, it can clearly be done. however, if they don't want it done there is a reason. if they could sell people filters at $60 each, you can be damn sure they would do it.

i have no good explanation for why they say not to use a filter. perhaps a possible heat related issue? so go ahead and be DIY guys, but just know it could later cause some problems.

Perhaps they don't want you "retrofiting" your own. They would rather you spend $60 on the toyota filter.

I'm dumb, the point of the cabin filter is to keep the outside dust/smells out, right? Anyone notice a big difference since installing?

Well, they call that tray the "Air Filter Case" in the manual so it seems odd it shouldn't have one . They were probably just worried after having A/C complaints on the first xBs and with some test drivers of the tC... I doubt they redesigned that blower assembly for the tC, it's probably the same as the Camry. My dad's Corolla came with a filter in the drawer and it was a base model pretty much. It's probably just a Scion cost cutting move.

Don't forget to use some charcoal inserts to eliminate odor. The DIY for the xB should be roughly the same for the tC.

Lame. So the air in urban areas doesn't do any harm?
Holy Crapaccino pull your head out of your filter box and smell the fresh rosey scented air.

I made my own... after a month use you can see the difference...

So I made another....

For the reply of the post: tC has a cabin filter area but no filter comes with the car... at least mine didn't.

What about this

http://photobucket.com/albums/v217/n...nt=filter1.jpg

http://photobucket.com/albums/v217/n...nt=filter3.jpg

The filter is sold in Walmart and the only tools needed are a pair of scisors and a wire cutter. Once everything is done it will look like this...

Bottom view of tray:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v217/n...nt=filter5.jpg

Top view of tray:

TIP: Before putting the gloves box back on, remember to lubricate the hinge plastic pins with Vaseline (joke here :D) to ease the insertion , and more important, to allow for an easier removal of it in the future when changing filters.

After the test the air flow seems to be allright... [/url]
