Rumor has it that xB go bye bye next year! Just something a little bird told me. It makes sense, the reason being the bB started on the market in 2000. So next year would make it due for a body change. That's kinda cool, that makes my RSV1 even more limited. How true? Any comments? :?: :?: :?:

with the way the current xB's are selling - no way, toyota will wait until the sales curve starts to drop before they discontinue what is otherwise a brand new US model car.

you gotta remember toyota is a big company and as such they are more concerned with making $$$ not keeping things fresh and cool.

I can't believe that.....at least not for 2 more years...I know that scion doesn't plan to extend model lifes longer than 2-3 years but 1???? and with the way it selling why stop???? don't know who your little bird is but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me...

they've been out in japan for three years though. anyhow, they ARE planning on updating them every three years or so, but i'm unsure on how that will work with current models that have been previously released in the japanese market.

If they are prices at the same price range every 3-5 years, it won't be so bad to updated. I if you are going to spill the beans, you better have the pot! Are there any pics from japan on the new mod?

Hows this for sales .... Toyota is now #2 in total auto sales, nudging out Ford.
#1 GM @ 8.something
#2 Toyota @ 7.68
#3 Ford @ 7.62
Those figures were on the evening news, and thats in Billions. Detroit is losing ground fast, and with the developement of the Scion line, it doesnt help the gaping wound for the big 3.

I've also hear the xB is going to be discontinued early to keep it rare (not from any good source, just a rumor...I think we all read that motortrend article), but not by next year! I'm sure they'll give national sales at least 2 years before they yank it for something else. who knows though.

Personaly I dont think they will change the body style or even take it off the market in just one year. Yes they been out in Japan for 3 years but they are brand new out here so it wouldn't make much sence. On the second hand it could be true and I wouldnt completely dout it. When honda changes there model in Japan they change it out here as well so lets see what toyota desides to do.

I heard the same thing from a buddie of mine that works at Toyota corp. He told me about it last year...
but I've also heard that a new version of the xb is in the works...so I guess only time will tell...not matter what my xB will be a keeper.

yeah I agree Drew our Scion trainer( great guy named Bart ) told us that Scion's would have shorter model spans...beth told me the same...but 1 year that's not a span...I could see 2-3 years nothing less...remember they would still have to make parts and just one year would be too much trouble for them(toyota)...I think this talk of 1 year of xb is cool though...resale $$ would be crazy

ususally every 3-4 years something small will change on the car to give it a different look. it wouldn't really make sense, but then again who would of thought the xB did make sense.

All I can say is, this makes me feel a bit better about not being able to get a Scion yet. Just because I can sit back and see what model I like the best. Maybe I will be able to get a good deal on a first gen xB when the 2nd gens come out :D

Depending on popularity, I see the xb becoming main line toyota or some offshooot of it, maybe a seven seater. The CUV(crossover utility vechicle)is the new segment in the automotive industry. Automakers are embrasing these vehicles. As long the market demands, Toyota will have a CUV.Bill

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Hybrid Synergy Drive!!  But I would like to see, if the xB is still around for US Gen 2, a longer cargo area like the other choice the Trix.

The story I heard from a Toyota rep was that the xB was going to run on a 3 year cycle. Then at that point there was going to be a review to phase it out .

Well, whatever they do I hope they don't "americanize" them by blowing them up into big suv type vehicles or anything larger for that matter and completely going away from one of the main reasons I was attracted to them in the first place. Good gas mileage, affordability, unique design, and small size which makes them light enough to still be a bit quick is what I like about them. The TC just for america doesn't seem like the xa or xb. I know it's suppose to be different and a little more sporty but the styling just hasn't grown on my like the Scions. Maybe a body kit or some restyling on it will make me like it. After I saw a Kenstyle kit on the XA it really made me see them in a whole new light. XB is still what I have my eyes on.

Uh...I don't think so fellas.!

The Series (Hot Lava) will only be around for a year, but the xB will have an indefinate lifespan...what makes you think it's gonna get cut so soon?

Name one other "successful" car that has been stopped in a matter of a year of it's introduction?

Let's see....

Take an xB, then add 4wd, another 20" in length, 5" in width, a V6, leather, a third seating row, dual moonroofs, Captain's Chairs, 20" rims, twin turbos, a DVD system for the back rows, lots of body cladding....

   :x :x  ........On second thought, howzabout keeping it simple & pure like it is now. This is what I believe makes the xB such a revolution - it is the most "honest" design on the road. Not ONE ounce of fat or flab. No extraneous "styling" crud like even the Element succumbed to (an "almost" pure design gone astray)

BTW - Got my xB yesterday (Black 5spd) shipped up from Sac. We're the only Scion in the local area (makes it kinda fun... the licensing dep't here was confused about what it is :P )

it could be like Mitsubishis, I know with my 91 Galant vr4, in japan the last year for an E39a Galant was 1992, and the modle ended in america in 93, so they had the 1994 body style out in japan in the end of 92 so maybe they are gonna do something like that.

the only car I ever saw disappear that I really liked was the Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4, but I don't the xB is going away anytime soon.

There was an article written about this exact topic. It was either on www.autoweek.com or it was at the Detroit News Online's car section.

They said there was talk about making the Scion vehicles limited editions. They said it wasn't a sure thing, though.

I just red this a few weeks ago.

You answered your own question... Bb is the Japanese model and XB is the US. Only difference appears to be the badges and the side the steering wheel is on.

Don't be too surprise, There is a 4x4 xB being built right now in Socal as we speak..don't know how they are gonna do it, but they are projected to be show it later this year. I'll be interested in see that, mini monster grave digger.

As well as structural improvements for crashworthyness and adding a spare tire.

I don't doubt that the 2005 will be the last year for the current xB bodystyle, as the design was already out for two years in Japan before being introduced in the US. I doubt that they would change the Japanese model and keep the US model the same.

and the seats shape... I wanna see if I could swap mine with some bB seats, I'd prefer the flat ones, people (including but not limited to me) are always trying to get some "sleep" in the car.. if you know what i mean wink wink... nudge nudge...

o4_USDM_bB

i doubt any scion will ever come with a v6, and they'll probably always be mini cars. i'm sure the toyota echo will disappear soon, and all of the "cheap" or inexpensive toyota cars will be sold under scion names. scions are supposed to be the inexpensive, "cool" alternative to toyota cars. what i hope they keep doing is bringing all of the japanese mini cars over here. i love 'em.

oh yeah, about the JDM seats. i don't like them at all. i already think my seats are a little too flat. those ones look like they belong in a '57 chevy or something.

back to the seats though, the bench seats with armrest that go flat when you put them all down (instead of those freaking humps we got all over) in the bB are way more functional than ours...

Column shifters suck.....but I would definitely trade it for a full front pimp couch.

As for the extinction of the xB.....I heard from a top dawg to one of the divisions in Scion that the xB would be phased out and the xA was the main stay. I started laughing at him...couldn't help it.

IMO that xB is pretty hot but once people get tired of the bandwagon and the shock effect then they'll jump off leaving us few purist to have fun. Then that's when Toyota will yank the chain.
