Still waiting for my wheels so I'm trying to get prepared here....

What wheel locks do scion owners suggest? I used to use McGuard's and Gorilla's on my BMW's...is there a particular brand of choice for the Xb? Just looking for some info and opinions.

TIA

I'm not sure about the Gorilla but McGuard gives life time waranty and they have any style short and long, closed and open end so it gets my vote. they also have their package which include both lock and tuner nuts, Take care Sean

I was gonna get wheel locks until I saw a universal tool for removing them at Pep Boys for like $10.
Check this link out to see what I'm talking about: http://www.kentool.com/tireserv_UE.htm

yup, there are several "universal" tools available, only now are they starting to show at retail locations like pepboys. when i bought my last car it had lock nuts, and no tool. i got a VERY bad flat tire and had to remove the wheel - all i did was get a socket that was *just* a little too small, hammered it onto the nut and then hopped on the wrench - voila the little bastard popped off. it took awhile but it worked.

so anyway there was no point to that story other than with the new tools and even some clever mcguyver tricks you can get em off - why not just buy cheap wheels?? haha

True. Something's better than nothing though. :?

That sucks - back in the day you could just find the closest size socket and then hammer it on, basically the same thing.

why not just buy cheap wheels??
No way! LOL.

agreed. I'd rather have an added deterent than nothing.

Thanks for all the info guys - I think I'll go with the black chrome mcgards "tuner" set which includes locks and lugs.

Of course they're not impenetrable, but they will stop the casual thief that isn't equipped and may slow someone down long enough to get noticed and busted.

not if you move like the wind young grasshoppa :)

of course i agree with all that, i guess i felt the need to share my little story, im just so lonely  haha

hell even with a $350 set of wheels i think i'd still buy locking lugs!

People will steal the wheels off of anything... There's always a sale at Midnight Auto supply...

BUT the wheel lock saved one at least:

Thanks for all the responses guys - one last thing (getting antsy since my wheels are to be completed today in Japan), are the stock lugs on the Xb's black or chrome? Too lazy to take off the hubcap. :)

Thanks

get a sensitive alarm, hammering on the wheels should trigger it, then come out and beat ___

They are a goldish color.

Also, I use Gorilla Locks on my xB, and on all my cars I've had.

You're going to want to get new lugnuts. The stock ones, if they would fit, would look awful. Another thing to consider is the internal key type. My wheels have deep wells where the lugs go and there's not much clearance on the outside of the nut, so i got the internal keyed type and no more worrying about marring the wheels when I take them off...

One thing to consider is getting a tilt sensor option for your alarm. I know that Clifford makes one. If the car is jacked up even 1 deg. the alarm goes off. I think its a $100 option for their alarm systems.

Thanks again guys, maybe I'll just go with the full "Tuner" set of lugs and locks from McGard. (Looking for black lugs & locks)

Scratch that - I'm going to go with the Gorilla's since they don't have the nasty "grey top" that the McGards' have...looking for black lugs and locks

Here's the specs that I have so far...hope this is accurate, maybe someone can verify.

12mm X 1.50 OEM Size for lugs

Here's a pic of the lugs

Those aren't like the cheap ones at Autozone are they? I bought a whole set like that in blue for my old Civic and the finish rubbed off the edges when I put them on the car.

These are gorilla's - I used to use them on my old BMW E46 ///M3 - from what I remember they were high quality, albeit the ones I had were not black chrome.

I doubt it, Gorilla makes quality stuff.

Same thing happened to the ones I got at Pep Boys. Better to spend a little more on some decent ones.

For my tC I bought just the basic silver wheel locks (no lug nuts) from the Zone. Unfortunately, the key is a smaller lug than my factory lugs, so I have to carry a cross-bar lug wrench in my car now.

Finally ordered my locks...turns out the Discount tire is the largest retailer for Gorilla Locks here in SoCal.

Ordered 4 black chrome locks (turns out I don't need the lugs, my wheels are coming with black lugs) so I should be good to go...still waiting for my wheels though :)

Thanks for all the help!

Does the car use lug nuts on lug bolts?? i swear i saw somewhere it used lug bolts, but when i got my EM-7 scion rims installed it looks like its held on by nuts? on my last car the tire guy instead of using lug bolts he put studs into my hub and put tuner nuts on that, this was a really bad decision, the studs stripped out my hubs and nuts both directions and i almost lost a wheel on the freeway!!!

i need to get some locks for my xb, but i dont know if i should get bolts or nuts, i guess ill just have to go pull one out and see....

are mcgaurd and gorilla the only options?

OK, just for confirmation, the tC has conical or tapered lug nut seats... correct?

I am ordering my wheel locks soon and gotta make sure I get the right one.
