I searched to no avail for this one. i saw a post a while back where someone removed the stock airbox and made their own sort of short ram with a k&n cone style filter. i would like to know how this was done, where the map sensor went and the like. I tried it one day with a cheap ___ filter and the car sounded awesome for the 2 seconds it ran....then she died, so i musta done something wrong right!>! lol I know it probably wont do much in terms of performance but again not lookin for that going for more of a tuned sound, if ya cant BE fast might as well sound it and look good doing it :roll:

He had a nice setup... He changed it out for a real intake later...

I copied his setup, and also later opted to buy the real thing...

It works for while, but you don't get the sound or performance from the real thing.
I felt like it was actually hurting my performance... It was cheap though 8)

I removed the box and put in a drop in TRD filter, which I attached with two mini bungee straps. Open the hood and I look stock. I did notice some power.

Yeah, just get a K&N or TRD drop-in filter and fasten it (either make a frame, modify the lower portion of the box/snorkel, or duct tape!!!). A friend of mine bought a Blitz Induction Cover for his WRX last night. Works well...

thanks for the quick relplys guys. I think i may just break down and get an injen ram air somewhere cheap, maybe someone is selling one on the boards havent checked yet. tax season is soo exciting isnt it?

I'd just get the Injen short ram. Its only around $150. But then again if you don't have the money, I'd wait.

the suprascion intake is not really worth the effort. . . and it doesn't seal up very well, IMO, especially at the filter box. Get a REAL intake. I fabbed my own short ram, but it took quite a bit of work. . .

get an extra stock airbox and then cut it to create an open element type system.

That's what I did. . . but there is an extra tube within the OEM intake, which can be fabricated into a short-ram, blitz-type intake. You'll need a filter that will accept 2.5" or smaller piping. IMO, just get a pre-made CAI/short-ram.

For anyone who wants to get creative

Just dont use a tube larger than 2 1/2 inches the car will run like ____.
