Default Phantom II gauges too bright

OK here it is, I just installed 3 autometer phantom II gauges in my dash next to the spedo. They are very, very bright..so bright that they don't appear to have a black background. Also the dimmer barely works(just a little dimmer and then off).

The illumination leads are hooked up to the green for + and green/wht for dimmer- ground.

I have temporarily hooked a potentiometer set at about 2.3k ohms inline with the green/white common point to the gauges and this seems to have brought the gauges down to the same "brightness" as the speedo and the dimmer now works....

WHY!!!!!!!!!!! if it matters 06 xb

So they were too bright for you too..I guess I'll just leave the pot in..maybe I'll move it down to a spot under the dash where it can be reached and use it as a secondary dimmer just for the extra gauges.

If they are too bright for you, remove the colored boot that goes over the light and use a Sharpie to draw an "X" on the boot. That will knock down the brightness.

Moved the pot down to the bottom of the dash where I could adjust it if I wanted to today. This works for me I'm happy, the gauges aren't as bright and the dimmer works. I guess it is just a personal preference as to the brightness..
