It started yesterday. I was driving down the street going around 35, light turns red up ahead. I let go of the gas and i know the rpms go down, but mine went below 1000 then shot up to like 1600 and then back down again. I dont think this is normal, shoul'd i be worried? BTW its an 06 automatic.

Has it been happening regularly? Sounds like you might've accidentally blipped your gas pedal while braking.

 

no it just started yesterday... and im sure i didnt hit the brake. it happens each time i let go of the gas pedal. I got this car brand new in 06 and this is the first time that this ever happened.

 

Any cel coming up? Should take it into a dealer for a checkup. Sounds like a drivetrain issue to me and you should still be within that warranty.

 

^^ i wonder if it could be the gas pedal drive-by-wire sensors causing an issue, he lets off the gas, the sensors don't see the correct signal, and cause it to rev.

 

What rpm would it be at for the automatic if it was normal?

 

well i was looking around the forums and came up on the rough idling thread. i cleaned the MAF sensor, which was dirty as heck and replaced the air filter. It seems to have worked. many thnx to evry1

 

^^ glad to hear it's fixed! yeah now you know to clean that every 12-15k miles. But always nice for a cheap fix.
