Default New question, bottom of the page

I just ordered some new wheels, and I have a couple days to make sure they fit right (had to order now for a discount)

They are 17x9 +38, so my question is since 17x8 fits nicely in a +35 offset, will 17x9 be roughly similar to how the 17x8 sits? In those offsets

I am mostly worried about the front not fitting right because of my 225 tires. I will scrub off some fender liner if needed but I don't want to roll them.

Just trying to make sure there won't be any major modifications needed to make these wheels daily drivable. If i'm picturing it correctly, the 17x9 +38 should fit almost exactly like 17x8 +35 except i'll have a tiny bit of tire stretch, so it will look sick. Hopefully.

Thanks in advance guys

Got an update... according to 1010tires (I SEARCHED, YAY) the new wheels will be pushed out 29mm more than my current ones which is a little over an inch. Inch and a quarter maybe

But, when I factor in that the tire is still the same width, only the rim is getting wider and i'm not really tucking, they should technically fit basically flush?

Why is choosing wheel offsets so difficult

i had a 8.5 et+32 up front

thats equiv to a 9 et+38 so you'll sit 2 mm out more than my works i had. not bad. if you stretch a 225 on there you'll be legit.

you'll have to roll a bit but you'll be fine. go for a 9 et+28 out back if you can. that will sit awesome

What do you mean roll a bit? lol

I know how to mod the rear fenders by cutting that lip out of them, but how exactly does one mod the front fenders?

I just called them up and told them to hold off for now till I get this fitment problem figured out.

Also keep in mind I might want to try and run a 235 at least when I get my next set of tires... which is going to throw a huge pipe in the works I think

After discussing with some people and measuring, I am just going to go with 17x8 +35.

Then if I want later on to keep these tires, or maybe get skinnier ones I can add a 5mm spacer in the front and a 10 in the back and do some modifying.

A friend of mine into VW's and myself, lol

The +38 on such a wide wheel is going to at LEAST make me modify the front fenders if I want to run 225's, and forget 235's unless I run some insane camber.

The rears I wouldn't be too worried about, and I can't order the fronts in a high offset, it will only go from +38 to +47, and thats too high.

17x8 shouldn't look too bad for now, definitely a lot better than my 17x7 +42's

Got an update... got the wheels put on today, and with two people in the car (me and a passenger) the back actually rubs. Tire against the inner lip of the rear fender. Only when hitting bumps or going over those speed tables (crawling over them)

The front scrubs a tiny bit on the fender liner, I can feel the scrub on them.

Overall i'm happy with the offset, and when i'm ready for more i'll throw some 10mm spacers on the back and 5's in the front. But that will require some hacking of metal, so it won't be for awhile.

Got another update

I want to push the rears out another 5mm but i've read mixed reviews on using them with the stock studs. A few people who have actually done it say they had no problem, but alot of people say it is unsafe.

Can I run the 5mms with the stock studs or do I have to replace them?

I was trying to figure out exactly how much bite the lugs get on the studs, but can't seem to get a good reading. I am assuming the lug gets about 12ish mm bite on the stud, so it'll only get like 7 which is still over half of the size of the threads on the lug, not taking the small amount of stretch into consideration.

So what should I do?!

you said 5mm spacers was bad but thats the most you would do in another thread, lol

you didnt answer my question, can I do it with stock studs or do I NEED to replace them?

I'm using the spacers either way and you cant stop me :D

^ the back wheels are sunken in like a meth addicts eyeballs, they need an intervention like now!

BULLOCKS.

i really wanted this to be easy, so i'll give you another chance... theres no way i can run the spacers with stock studs?

its just too much work to do all that for barely a quarter inch worth of push. Whats the big deal with running the spacers without extended lugs anyway? My rule is if it's got at least a few full rotations, it's on good enough

Yea I know, I just put a 5mm spacer on one rear wheel and I didn't even get a few rotations on the lug, so thats a no-go.

Oh well, nevermind lol

the rears aren't hard at all to take out. take off the caliper and dust shield and knock them out.
