Default how much to lower?

i was wondering.. i've already got a list of what i wanna do with my tC (after she's fixed from my fender bender last week):
* projector headlights
* short shifter
* aftermarket racing intake
but now i'm thinking... she'd look nice if she was dropped a little, so how much would you say dropping the car would be? and also how low do you suggest is the best look without it looking like it's sitting on the tires and won't be in the way of speed bumps (i have them at work ughn)

(oh.. i did do a search but there was so much bc i guess my keyword 'lowering'... don't get mad if this is a repost or somewhat...)

thanks guys

I guess it depends on how much you want to spend on lowering your car. You can go fairly low with just springs and still have some money left over for other things. or you can get coilovers and lower the car to a height that you want.

well... how much is cheap?
and wouldn't the coilovers be more?

idk... i'm not really good with this kind of stuff.. i can change my bulbs, install my headunit, change a thermostat... but when it comes to this.. it's too technical lol

You can install headunits? I can't even do that... I'm not too good with electronics. I can solder LEDs and that about it.
For springs you can get them for around 200. Maybe even less if you know where to look. Coilovers are more, around 600-1000 depending on what you want. When I first got my car I ordered H-Tech($185) springs and before they even arrived I changed my mind and want a set of KSport KontrolPros(I think $850).

yeah i googled the coilovers and then springs.. and there's a gigantic $$ difference lol. are springs easy to install?? my bf lowered his integra by himself with springs i think and that's what i wanna do - do it myself.

and headunits are easy to install. crutchfield.com not only sells the parts you need but gives you instructions for your specific car too

I kinda want the pioneer f90bt or d3. But something simple would be nice to have. I don't know yet. I might have to return my car back to stock at the end of summer. Financial issues. My coilovers would be the first to go.

for you i think springs would be the best option. since youre just going for appearance, it would be a waste to go coilovers. spring installs are easy, you can get your bf to help you out with it probably. the springs themselves are probably around 200 for a set of 4.

You don't need to buy spring compressors. You can borrow them from autozone. But you will need them.

yeah that will be all you need, too bad the Advance auto part didn't have the compressor.

and i follow Hotchis spring install guide
http://www.hotchkis.net/_uploaded_fi...621729file.pdf

just take your time, and you will probably need a guy to hold down the struts and springs while you compress them.
For easier way to break loose the rusty bolts, i spay on some BP Blaster and let it soak for a few minutes.

btw , you skipped step 3 and 6, you don't need to anything to wipers.
I will take some pics of my TRD spring tomorrow.
socket that you will need, 12-14-17-19 and 22

to remove the shaft nut. Step #11(front) and #13 (rear), I lay the strut on the ground and have my friend step on it. I also hold it down with one of my leg. It will not move when u use a break bar on it.

here's a fairly recent one of mine from my SL profile....this is almost a full 2" drop front and rear on Hotchkis lowering springs.... I can get over most things in the road... but I still have to be careful and there are some drives that I cant get in or out of....but any lower and it would be tucked...which sends handling and practicality of it being a DD out the window. I have a 1 finger gap up front and about a 1.5 finger gap on the back. they aren't the easiest lowering springs to put on because they are a progressive rate spring...but the handling is much better than most linear rate springs. And cost wise... I'd check a few sites out ...but TRD Sparks has pretty good pricing on most of their aftermarket parts for Scions. And the springs wont set you back a huge amount either...and I bet you'll be happy with the end result.
