Hello All, just checking to see if anyone has experienced this. Today I happened to be dribing with my radio off and noticed a fairly quiet but noticeable squeaking noise which occures only when the car is coming to a complete stop and applying brakes. I rowed down my windows to see if I can hear it coming strong from the outside which is a good indication that it's brake wear but it didn't come from the outside. You can hear it much stronger from the inside of the car with windows rowed up.

The sound described to the best of my ability: Sounds semi similar to a low brake pad squeak. But it's not as loud and not continuous. It squeaks softly and if you can imagine a soft low brake pad squeak that has a rhythmic : squeak...squeak...squeak...
and only occurs when the car is almost at a complete stop with the brakes applied. I only have 20k miles and never ride my brakes unless neccessary which isn't often at all.

Before I came home I test drove it around the neighborhood for a good 15 minutes and checking it out at every possible stop sign. The noise will occur a good 90% of the time.

Just checking to see if this situation is normal or if anyone out there has experienced the same.

whens the last time you washed your car...... take a hose and spray in the wheel well and all over the brakes, it could just be built up brake dust causing fricting when you break thats making the noise

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll give it a try first thing in the morning. I had also thought that maybe it had something to do with the rain, perhaps? I live in S. Cali and the last week + it had been raining non-stop and perhaps it did something? Or caused some sort of rust and needs to be worn down to rid buildup?

Either way, I'll definately try flushing out the brake area with water tomorrow.

Definately had something to do with the rain... My rotors get rust spots all over them the day after a heavy rain, but that's normal. Comes off the first couple of times you brake.

Likely that it's the brake dust too. I'd spray some Meguiar's rim cleaner in there--make sure it's the kind safe for all rims--because brake dust sticks to everything.

If the squeek keeps up though, take it by your dealership just to be sure.

Hello all! Update...

I went ahead and hosed down all four of mybrakes with a water hose this morning and did it thoroughly. The noise went away but after about 15 minutes of driving it came back. Throughout the day I kept my ears tuned to it and the radio off just to see if I can spot any patterns. I noticed that the noise only occurs when the car has been driven for at least 10-15 minutes. I'm starting to think it's not coming from the brakes. It's a very quite squeal and cannot be noticed if the radio is on. The more I hear it, the more it doesn't sound like it's from the brakes. It sounds more like something needs to be lubed. Perhaps the recent rainy days had washed away some lubricant around the wheel area? Either way, if the problem doesn't go away I'll be bringing it in to have the service department check it out.

Update:

I believe the problem is solved. I took my xB down to the dealership and had them look at the problem. They re-adjusted my brakes and perhaps even lubed it up. Anyhow, so far I don't hear the noise and my brakes feel like new as well.
