Rain x itself is fine (acutally I find it to be a really good product), its that anti fog stuff that rain x makes that is junk. I think all you can do is take it off with glass cleaner and forget about it. I didn't know they still made it...

If its not coming off easily you can use a more harsh window cleaner like windex that is ammonia based. Second time today I've given that (normally questionable) piece of advice...

Well, then you're screwed, dude!

Just kidding. Had a friend have the same problem with that never fog stuff. Eventually it all dries off/fades away to where its not there anymore. Maybe get a microfiber towel and buff the heck out of it to get it off sooner.

rain x comes off with simple soap and water . . . soap . . . it's good to use it. lol Well if wax works then go for it, but you're wasting good wax on silly things. Oh yea, seriously use wax on your headlight cover, it keeps it cleaner longer and takes the yellow out. Peace.

I tried rain-x before.. and it left that same residue on the windshield.. called the company and they told me Bon-Ami cleanser (find it at a grocery store in the cleaning aisle) on the windshield.. even Toyota has recommended it in their service bulletins.. it is safe for glass.. use it with plenty of water and bam! works great.. i never did care for rain-x after that..

Nah, it just cleans the glass. I use it to remove all of the bugs I get from freeway trave here in AZ...

the outside rain-x seems fine... I never got their anti-fog thing (sold out at the time). But... I did get this Never Fog thing... actually I hated applying it... I would buff and buff and it wouldn't go away... finally I just left it on and after a few days I rewashed the windows (water and windex) and used this neat thing called glass wizard (umm its really just a triangular pad attached to a handle... but whatever)

oddly enough I never put anti-fog on the back windows... well last night with people in the car... the back windows fogged up to the point where the defrost button no longer got rid of the condensation... but the front windows were fogless... so go figure... I guess it really does do something.... I think you just have to use it in very very small amounts... or take off the excess somehow. Oh yeah right now it IS below freezing around here ... and I dont' have any of the problems you described above (of course when I applied it it wasn't this cold)..

the bon-ami is a cleanser, that removes the rain-x if you want to take it off your windshield.. so yeah it's just a cleaner.. it does a great job of getting rid of grime on the glass..

Waxing glass is no new thing. Remember the product named Glass Wax? Worked well but the powder residue was messy for indoors use unless one carried a vacuum along. Amonia water and BonAmi were common glass cleaners way back in the early 50s and still work today. Have not looked for bar BonAmi in a long time.
