Hey everyone,

I got my first speeding ticket last night... officer said i was doing 82 in a 50... he also gave me a ticket for my tints... even though my tints are legal 35%

since this is my first ticket i don't know what to do... i called up a lawfirm and they wanna charge me a fee of $750 to fight my case...

has anyone here experienced fighting tickets? is it worth paying this much for a lawyer??

i dont know what to do...

If you are going to pay $750 for a lawyer its probably more than what the ticket is. I don't know how things are up there but down here you can get a traffic lawyer from a bench ad. But if the lawyer is that expensive I say just pay the ticket. As for the tints if 35% is legal just take a receipt from the tint shop with your tint ticket to the court and they should be able to clear it up. Good luck.

happened to me. i was going 75 in a 55.

fight it, dont pay it!

 

they way i used to do it was go in on the date and plead not guilty, they set up another court date. show up on that one and see if the cop shows, if not case dismissed. if the cop shows, they will come and talk to you and try to work something out, usually a lesser fee.

in the end, you got caught, now you have to pay.

 

If he actually wrote the speeding ticket for 82 in a 55, you're probably going to be also charged with wreckless driving (in NY) and might lose your license. I believe anything 25mph or faster OVER the speed limit and that would be the charge.

As for your tints... I'm not sure where you'd go to "prove" they're legal, but it might be just a fix it ticket. Pull the front tints off and go show the judge or cop or whoever. You might have to call the court to see if that's possible.

 

I got one for 77 in a 55. Ticket was only 100 bucks. Gotta love the boonies.

 

your tint has to let 70% light thru so 30% wud be legal in new york state. it sucks!! pled not guilty to the ticket and talk to the da to reduce it down if possible

 

yeah that 82 in a 50 is going to get you, theres a possibilty that you'll get your license suspended for that, if you got some paperwork of your window tint i would go to court with that, the place i got mine done gives you a receipt and warranty and it should say how much tint was put on, but that speed might get ya.

if the tint is legal...just prove it.

as far as speeding, you were doing it and you got caught.

thats why i got a radar detector, might not always work but at least it might give me some type of warning.

I also never speed in front of a pack of cars. i try and stick back about .25 - .5 miles behind another speeding car so if there is a cop, they will go after that one instead of me.

 

not trying to be harsh, but if you know your doing something wrong and you get caught, there really are no excuses.

but for the window tint, u could prob get that dismissed if its legal.

one thing about tints tho. You said you had 35% but did the cop test it with that detector to see if it was tinted? u forget that the oem window glasses are already tinted to a certain degree. so when u tell the shop to tint your windows 35% their actually adding 35% to the already lightly (but can't really tell) tinted windows. Therefore i say figure out whats going on and if u can fight it by all means do it

That's true. I have 20% and it actually meters 13%.

 

well wen you go in for a plea bargin you can hope that in the bargin for pleding guilty to a lesser speed that they drop the tint... nys vehicle and trafic law says that the windowns shud be no moar than 30% tho...

 

I know in VA 20 mph over is weckless or anything over 80. I got pulled for 82 in a 65 and got a reckless. Went to court and they dropped it to 79 so it wouldn't be wreckless.

Like other people said what did the meter say for the tint?
