First of all the two main locations where information can be found are here:
Scion.com (http://www.scion.com/xb_release_series/gallery.html)
or here:
Scion Pressroom (http://pressroom.toyota.com/photo_library/display_release.html?id=2004scionxb_r)

http://t.wieck.com/TN/2003/12/29/TYT2003122941755_TN.jpg

So now some questions and answers for those who don't want to read those sites:

1.) Q- What is the Release Series 1.0 Hot Lava xB?
A- The xB Release Series 1.0 is the first limited edition for Scion and will offer unique appearance and performance enhancements.

2.) Q- What makes it a limited edition?
A- All xB Release Series 1.0 vehicles will have a new, vibrant orange body color, Hot Lava, and some additional add-ons.

3.) Q- What is all included on this limited edition xB?
A- Outside along with the new Hot Lava color, you will find a matching orange powder-coated strut tie-bar brace under the hood, and a billet grille on the front.
Inside you will find interior enhancements which designed to match the exclusive Hot Lava body paint. The xB will be illuminated with orange under-dash, under-seat and cupholder lighting, have black seat fabric with orange highlights, and a small numbered plaque will be applied to the interior of each Release Series.

Options listed:
Orange Metallic Exterior Color
Interior Fabric with Orange Highlights
Billet Grille
Orange Engine Bay Strut Tie Bar
Orange Rear Spoiler
Orange Underseat, Underdash, and Cupholder Lighting
Limited Edition numbered plaque
Pioneer 6 Disc AM/FM CD Changer w/10 color display

4.) Q- How much will the Release Series xB cost?
A- The xB Release Series 1.0 model will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $980 over the base xB, which starts at $13,680.

5.) Q- How many Release Series xB's will be made?
A- Scion will make 2,100 units of the xB Release Series 1.0.

6.) Q- When will the Release Series xB be available?
A- There is no definitive date yet. All information that has been released to the dealers states March 2004. Once the date is available, it will be posted.

7.) Q- Where can I buy the Release Series xB?
A- Get the RS xB in these states:
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia

8.) Q- Can I get other options added to the RS xB?
A- Yes, you can have any one of the over 40 available options installed onto the xB, they will either be port installed, or installed by your dealer.

9.) Q- How can I order one?
A- Technically speaking, a Scion cannot be "ordered", it is "Preferenced". You tell your dealer what model, transmission, color, and options that you want, and they put it into a computer. That computer matches your choices to a vehicle when that vehicle is available. Simply go into your local Scion dealer and Preference a Hot Lava xB before it is too late.

10.) Do I have to put down any money to Preference a xB?
A- More than likely your dealer will require you to put down $500 to preference a Scion. This money is a gesture of good faith toward your purchase and can be returned to you at anytime, without consequence.

11.) Q- I live in a state where Scions will not be released until June, will Scion save some of the RS xB's for sale in our states in June?
A- There is no information stating that Scion will save any RS xB models for June Release states. If you want one, your best bet is to try and preference one in one of the states listed above.

[b]12.) Q- My dealer told me that I can't get one until June. Is this true?"
A- The short answer might be yes. But the less than short answer is, He might not be able to get you one until June. You might be able to get one from another dealer sooner. The dealer you are trying to get it from might have preferenced all the Scions they have allotted to them from the March release date until June, so they can't get you on the list until June. Due to the limited availability of this model, you might be interested in calling other dealers to see if they have fullfilled all of their allotments for the release date, and their allotments thereafter.

13.) Q- When I preference the car and give them $500, do I get a Confirmation #, or an Order #?
A- No, they will give you a purchase order with the model number showing what vehicle you preferenced, and that you left a $500 deposit. When your car arrives in the port then you will have an actual VIN number assigned to your Preference.

14.) Q- Are the rims in the picture included with the Limited Edition package?
A- No, the rims shown in the RS xB press photos are the optional 18" TRD rims, they carry a MSRP of $1795.

15.) Q- Is the RSxB going to be available in Automatic and Standard transmissions?
A- Yes, the RSxB will be available in both transmission options, however the exact breakdown of the Auto/Manual ratio has not yet been released.

16.) Q- How many RS xB's will my State or Region get?
A- There is no exact numbers yet, however there are documents floating around without a Corporate Heading, that say the Southern California Area will get around 320 of them. More info will be released as March gets closer.

This all I have for now, if you think of anything, PM me and I will add it.

Who or what is GST? Garden State Toyota??? sounds good for me here in NJ, to have 250 rs1 in the Garden State. Nice

I believe you are right with what GST means but rmember that is probably the number that will come through that port for the mid-north east area total. Pretty much Maryland to Maine and inland some.

CBSIMONSEZ

Ahhhh yes, to live in the Garbage State, :o i mean Garden State

For those who dont know, Garbage State is trucker slang for NJ. NY cant handle all its garbage, so they truck it to PA and OH, right through the northern part of NJ.

When this Limited Edition hits the floors, what might be a guess as to the value ? Do you think folks will offer more than the factory price ?

I am curious, I am hoping to snag one of these anyday now when they check their allocation list - It will be an automatic ...

Is this a good investment basically ?

I will my opinion and the opinion of people I trust...
1.) I think there will be dealers who will get this car and try to blow its cost through the roof. I anticipate some problems with this car, as do other people.
2.) I think that this car will either hold its value very well, or increase in value due to its limited status. If a person was to snag it, and then turn around and sell it in a state that didn't get any, I foresee some profit being made.

That is just my opinion though.
Ultimatly I think it will still be worth alot if it remains in great condition.

Hope that helps...

If these cars catch fire like the PT did then it will be worth more in the short run (2-3 years). After that it will start depreciating but at a much slower rate than regular xB's. Granted if that is what you want it for than it better be a never driven trailer queen. Otherwise it will depreciate.

Thanks for your response .... I told my local dealer that I am very serious about buying this vehicle, he mentioned that there was a young guy whom had a strong interest in getting one as well, he had completed a credit application and would not know if he got approved until last night .... Well, I called last night and asked if he got approved or not and found out a few other tidbits - The saleman mentioned that if he got declined then the Limited Edition would be mine ! Okay, I am paying cash for this vehicle ...... So as this story line goes, the young guy did not get approved and is an actual employee of the dealership and they are going to continue to try and get him approved !

Tell me if this is right or wrong ? You get this model in, very limited and an employee snags it ... Hmmmm / you have myself with excellent credit and/or willing to pay cash 100% in full upfront ! Should the dealer put this young guy on the burner and allow a serious buyer the chance here ?

** Maybe it might turn on for he best **

kwicslvr
02-04-2004, 03:42 PM
If he showed interest first and they are already working with him to hold then they should be obligated to keep working with him until all avenues are exhausted. Either way they will get their money for the car. Granted, all it should take is $500 to hold it for him. That's what I did with mine.

Okay - Here is a deal for someone !

As I stated before, my wife had placed a credit card hold/order for one of the Xb's, this unit might come in Automatic or Manual, not sure .....

The dealer that I have been working with called and said that the young guy got approved, I can come over and place a deposit and I will get the next one there as well !

My question is this: I want the automatic not the stick, we do not know which are coming in ...

Is anyone interested in this ?? I do not want to stick the other salesman, he is a good person ...

So if you want a stick, send me an email and we will figure out how to do this in the event a stick and auto come in ....

I hope this makes sense - Basically you will be going to the dealer I have worked with and give them your own deposit for the Lava ....

I already have a deposit at a different dealer !

the pop up available on Scion.com lists the options included in this package, and a 6 disc is not one of them.

Still a good deal though.
Got paid today and waiting on my refund check to put a deposit down if I can get approved for credit. I'd rather have a 5spd hot lava for 200 more than a regular automatic. Only want fogs on it and cargo cover, both can be dealer installed so I am set!

It will match my cadence 6000 mobile theater amp too!

The pics on the website show a lava AEM intake, and there has been no mention of that, so I think Scion.com is just a little behind the power curve.

I was just curious if anyone knew exactly how many most dealer were expecting to recieve as far as allocation of the hot lava's? Most of the dealers in my area already have 2 or 3 reserved for customers.. i am reserving mine tomarrow at a dealer (undisclosed to protect my stake at one) some distance away who has yet to have some lay deposit to one but is small than some of the super-toyota dealer in the houston area.

Thanks for any help and props to doc for the write-up

ALSO, most of you guys have been bashing AEM... but when I look at most of the compariosons it ranks right up there with performance.... why the diss is it just because It is over priced.... I dont mind buying another brand but if the AEM is orange I am most likely sold.

But if you look at the pic, it is a pic they have taken off the net. They probably have one or more allocated, and are trying to sell one, then letting the buyer know that they can take delivery in a couple of weeks. Thats my guess. There are several future RS1 owners here on the East Coast that were told last week that their allocation was in, but that the cars are not yet in port. From what i can tell, rumor has it they wont get to port till sometime around 3/11.

They do not have a hot lava XB .They wont hit port till March 4 . I was in the Scion chat room and asked the Scion rep. They even called my local dealer and fixed his attitude problem. So his boss took over . His commission went up in smoke. They confirmed to the dealer that march 4 was the launch date.

02-25-2004, 02:26 AM
The problem is, almost all the dealers are going to sell their RS1's within their region if not within their state. So you might have a problem with that. Unless you have a relative in a state that is getting them. There are still some available, I know this for a fact, but you would have to have a good local address to get it.

Chances are ... no. Not until they make the next years batch. Typically auto makers add/eliminate some colors to a specific line each year. I would think that if that is the case, you are looking into winter/spring of next year for the 2005 models.

Hmmm ..... Despite getting a home, I would see no reason as to why they could not co-sign or even sign for a loan for you ! I built my home 3 years ago and at the same time had to sign my life away for an assisted care home for my Mother and also purchased a Cherokee ...... Dealers have ways to get you the credit you need, it may be a bit higher on the interest rate, but after you geta JOB you can always refinance the loan at a much lower rate .....

You think I could do that? Hmm... I might have a chance yet... I should have a job in about 2 or 3 months. Oh yeah I have a minivan I'm gonna sell someday so I should get about $3000 off of that. This is an amature question but after I get the loan and start making payments can I put about $2000 in my payment for a month so it would be like a late down payment sort of thing? Sorry for asking stupid questions but I'm only like 16 and I don't know that much about making payments and stuff on a car.
Thanks man for the idea! I appreciate it a lot!

There are no stupid questions, that is how we all learn ......... Well, you take a loan for x-amount of dollars and you make a few payments, you save enough extra from your pay and then send say 2000.00 in, you need to tell them to apply this to the principal, not the interest, it does not shorten the loan terms, well that might not be true, it will shorten it some ..... The interest will be the same on original amount.

Yes - It is always better to send in a few extra dollars each month if you can ! I am not expert, but have experience with car loans, mortgages and all that fun stuff ....

You can put money towards anything at any time. Be careful though, like in a mortgage issue, you may be penialized for making payments early. On the car though, i would think that it would not be a problem. Once you establish the line of credit for the car, then just ask the bank that holds the lein ( title ). Tell them you would like to make payments towards your principal ( the base amount, not the money that will make up the % rate ). By paying off the principal early, you reduce the amount you will pay back faster, thus reducing your payments and your interest.

Something to think about though, if you can get comfortable with all your payments, you may want to stick that 2 grand in the bank, this way if something happens ( you get laid off, need a new washer/dryer, oven, microwave ), any big priced item that you need ASAP, then you will have the money in savings, rather then chrage it, or not have it all together.

Oh man... Thanks you guys! I'm only 16 though so I wouldn't need an oven or anything. I'm gonna try to sell the van for 3000 and then only put 2000 in a payment and keep the extra thousand for emergency purposes...
I appreciate all of this!!!
Thanks again

Be careful though, like in a mortgage issue, you may be penialized for making payments early. On the car though, i would think that it would not be a problem

you need to check with your particular states regulations. many states are no pre-payment penalty states.

i.e. , you can pay off any financial contract as early as you like and the lender can not penalize you for doing so.

The reason penalities are leveraged are because the lender looses a good amount of interest payments (the profit) when you close out pre-term. Even if you sign a contract stating you will be penalized for early payment - if your state has statutes prohibiting those fines, that contract is null and void and you are bound by the terms of it (otherwise, pay it early anyway and tell the lender to kiss off.... basically)

Check with your state.

Well they got my RS1 allocated, but it wasn't the one I ordered. They allocated 2 automatics. I told them 3 times stick manual no automatic.
I know the sales person told the inventory manager, but I guess he screwed it up later on when he submitted it and confused my order with the first hot lava guy (auto).

I told my rep I was sorry, but I wouldn't be buying an RS1 auto. If I wanted auto I'd get a regular one. The only reason I was getting the RS1 was because it was only 180 more than gettting a regular auto, and that is a tradeoff my wife would agree to, as I am paying for the damned thing.

They made a couple of calls and told me I would get a manual, but it would probably take until March 20th at this point.

I really don't blame them they made a mistake and it has been rectified. They keep asking if I dont want at least floormats or something cause I ordered no accessories at all. I told them no, the Hot Lava has all the accesories I need, and when I want fogs or TRD shifter I'll buy them.
I don't want to not get the stock parts (like the light covers when no fogs) by having the parts dealer installed.

I didn't have time to read over all the replies, but... I know some people have asked me if the Hot Lava xB's were in at the port (Jacksonville) yet... and as of yesterday... they are here!

I'm not sure the exact number we received, but I know they're here. They look good! Only thing I don't like is... the rubber molding (i think that's what it is) in between the the body and the ground effects is a mustardish color. It's a completely different color than the car itself. Not a huge thing, but... I still think it looks bad.

Anyway... just thought I'd tell those who asked me... they are here now. :)

Sorry to hear about the delays man. To be honest, this is the first time I've asked the dealer...so this might be the first of many "a few more weeks" im going to hear. how long have you been trying to get one? It seems like a lot of people just get lucky..like "oh yeah, that colors cool i guess..i'll take it" and those hard core eager awaiters for it are getting the "few more weeks" treatment.

Well, if your anywhere near new jersey, North Brunswick Scion www.dchbrunswickscion.com are getting one soon. I have a strong suspision im the only one asking about it. If you drive down here, I'll gladly step down and get a Blue one.

I hear ya on this ... im about up to here with it all too  I think that this whole release is just BULLSH*T. The North East has had theirs in port since the 11th, and no one has heard if/when they are going to be released to the dealers. If i was just buying this car for something to drive around, i may be making a bigger deal with the dealer. But i need the xB for work, with all the space it has, so i guess ill just sit here with my mouth shut and wait, and wait, and then wait some more.

my dealer told me i should get my rs1 by friday. yes i am kinda stoked, but what about the people who have waited longer than i have? what about the fact that its been promised delivery after promised delivery? not to mention the lack of information throughout this whole ordeal.

to sum it all up, i am stoked my rs1 should be here by friday but i've heard this all before and i'm already preparing myself for the disappointment. can you tell i'm very fedup and ____ed with the rs1 disaster?

When it is 75 - 80 degrees out and the nights are warm enough for t shirts... It's spring.
Tommorrow is spring. They said taking delivery in march. Problem is some folks have them, some don't, and some don't even know if they can get one (like myself)

There is a serious lack of information regarding this product.
Of course, there always was.

I'm still laughing about the "promotional value".
Not much value if they all had to be preordered and once they come in they get yanked of the lot same day. Really not any since there has bee n NO advertising of scion at all in my area save the 30 second commercials during Futurama at 4 am, except one print advertisement sent out end of jan that had Scion on the back page.
There has been NO mention what so ever of the RS1! How can they create excitement if no one knows about their product?
On the other hand the xB got a Good review in "Parents" magazine in the economy class, and they were mentioned on "the View" today also. So go go super cool afordable Mommy-mobile (oh wait, that's what I am getting the RS1 for!) :D

Their "marketing approach" sucks a$$.

Wow new to the site and just reading about all the trials and tribulations of getting the Hot Lava release 1.0

I am getting mine tomorrow and can't wait and it seemed so easy. I went the the Scion website on 3/10/04 and saw for the first tme the Limited Edition 1.0, loved it from the start! I am from Tennessee and we wont get Scion's until June so I sent an email to the Atanta Scion Dealer and Huntsville Alabama dearler, never heard from the AL dealer but got a call from the Alanta dealer in less then 20 minutes after recieving my email at 7:00 PM, The dealer indicated they were due to get 3 of the Hot Lava's in the Jacksonville port by the 19th of March and at the dealer on the 23rd and one was spoken for and if interested I could reserve one by sending my earnest check which I did the next day, worked out great financing with Scion/Toyota, requested what accessories I wanted and bang got a rip sheet with my Vin # and accessories listed on the16th and like clock work got a call from my dealer rep on March 23rd as scheduled and it hit the lot! :) Being from TN I could not arrange to drive down and get it until this Saturday 3/27 so because I had some time I asked if it was possible to throw in a DVD player and screen and Bang done deal. Everything just clicked right into place and my Kudos to Atlanta Scion ask for Jason. Now it's time to just Sign, drive and enjoy. It was all to easy and the no haggle pricing is great especially for an old 38 year old man with 3 girls...HA

Great Site will be back often

i put a payment on one on march 3rd. and i got it march 16th. so i didnt hafta wait too long, but the suspense was killing me. a nd i got the first one in. it took antoher week for a few more. adn then a few more days for more, and so on. the dealership here got 3 5 speeds. i gotta find the other 2 5 speeds to i can meet with them.

hope you've found this answer by now, but should have been a plate put just above the glove compartment and off-set to the left above the cup holder (see photo 5)...

I love my hot lava!!!!

Here's what yours can be!:
