My key looks like crap now.lol UNiT_xEr0 05-19-2009, 12:48 AM stealership kulo 05-19-2009, 12:52 AM Really? I'll look into it. UNiT_xEr0 05-19-2009, 01:07 AM only place you could actually go to make them since the key has a sensor in it to read against the ignition. its not like the old school cars where you could go to home depot and make them kulo 05-19-2009, 01:18 AM Thats true. Well I'll be going there to do it then. kiss_kiss_kill 05-19-2009, 04:44 PM Hope you come with a full wallet, & be prepared to leave with an empty one. =/ kulo 05-19-2009, 04:51 PM really? Why do you say that? kiss_kiss_kill 05-19-2009, 04:52 PM They don't call the dealership, the stealership for nothing. Call & get a quote & you'll see. :P UNiT_xEr0 05-19-2009, 04:53 PM i believe like 175 kulo 05-19-2009, 04:53 PM damn, is there any cheaper way of doing it? kiss_kiss_kill 05-19-2009, 04:54 PM Unfortunately, no. UNiT_xEr0 05-19-2009, 04:56 PM you need the sensor in the key so stealerships have to set it up thats why it cost so much. kulo 05-19-2009, 04:56 PM really for 175 i better be able to chose the color, size, and what not.lol that blows. myr6goesfast 05-19-2009, 09:31 PM Did you guys get a valet key when you bought your car? SquallLHeart 05-19-2009, 09:33 PM you get two master keys and one valet key when you purchase the car. kulo 05-19-2009, 09:37 PM I bought the car used. And no i didnt.lol tdubsrkt 05-20-2009, 12:25 AM wow tina, blastin my work uh? its not that bad. the key w/remote is 85 bucks and programing is like a hundy and the most or you can use a regular chip key for like 50 bucks but no alarm.... kiss_kiss_kill 05-20-2009, 01:31 AM Haha, Tommy...thats $185 right there.... kileil 05-20-2009, 01:36 AM If you just want to replace your existing one you can get the whole thing done for like $20. Just buy a camry key fob shell off ebay, put in your old guts and chip, then bring it to Lowes and they'll cut it. kulo 05-20-2009, 02:33 AM sounds a lot more reasonable. I think i like that. But what if i buy a blank key with the senor. could i do that? Do i really need to take it to dealership to get programmed? kileil 05-20-2009, 04:26 AM sounds a lot more reasonable. I think i like that. But what if i buy a blank key with the senor. could i do that? Do i really need to take it to dealership to get programmed? Nope, you just have to cut the chip out of your old one and slide it in the new one. No dealer needed, just a trip to Lowes (put in the chip after its cut so they don't give you a hard time). Theres a few threads on here with pics, search for "key fob" kulo 05-20-2009, 04:35 AM Okay that works, but what if i want a duplicate. And the key i buy comes with a transponder. Do i do the same thing? kileil 05-20-2009, 04:38 AM Okay that works, but what if i want a duplicate. And the key i buy comes with a transponder. Do i do the same thing? Oh, i read your first post as " My key looks like crap now.lol" and assumed you just wanted to replace that one... Yeah, if you want a 2nd key you need to see the dealership to have it programmed to the car. You could try to ebay a whole key, chip/remote and all to save a few bucks but you still need a dealer visit unless you get a hold of the programming steps yourself. HeathenBrewing 05-20-2009, 04:45 AM Not sure if it would work, or if you want to do it, but maybe hid your original key inside the column close to ignition? That way you could use a regular cut key (w/o chip) and use that to power the ignition. If no one knows its hidden there, it should be safe to do so. kulo 05-20-2009, 04:49 AM lol Thats crazy but probably would work. Uhm I guess i have to do it both ways. or figure something out. Thanks guy. SquallLHeart 05-20-2009, 05:10 AM yea.. doing that will bypass the immobilizer system completely.. kulo 05-20-2009, 05:28 AM lol thats not the smartest thing but its an option thats up in the air. I'll see what happens when i order this key of ebay. What does the dealer charge to program a key. Anyone know? SquallLHeart 05-20-2009, 05:31 AM probably $50.. sometimes more.. i would honestly, if i were to do it, $20 takes about 15-20 minutes to do as long as you got a master key to give them. kulo 05-20-2009, 05:38 AM That wouldnt be that bad.. Well I look into prices for programming this weekend. Then I'll post the place and costs. Someone out there is curious about.,heck might even start something...probably not though,.lol tdubsrkt 05-20-2009, 09:35 PM we charge 96.00 to program a key Iceman04503 05-20-2009, 10:03 PM This site offers a programming guide on the bottom left hand corner. http://www.keylessride.com/order/quote.asp?lbfix=yes&make=Scion&remoteyear=2007&model=tC&frid=809CB8E7 kulo 05-21-2009, 12:50 AM Yea but you got to pay for it. PLus there is no guarantee that it will work. Its up there. I'll keep searching. Thanks though, it might come in handy. SquallLHeart 05-21-2009, 07:22 AM ^^ you can program the keyless fine... but that's not what we're talking about.. (and F* buying instructions.. they're on this forum already.... but still it's not the only thing you need) programming a new key's immobilizer chip for the ECU to recognize requires a Toyota Techstream (a special laptop with special software to allow comms to the ECU thru the OBDII port.. they typically cost about $6400 each for a dealership) after that, yea.. if you bought another key with a new keyless remote.. you can program that yourself.. (fyi, those keys are just expensive, you might as well have the dealership cut you the key and program everything in the first place) kulo 05-21-2009, 02:53 PM okay i got cha. Well might as well get one programmed from the dealership. SquallLHeart 05-21-2009, 04:51 PM i mean.. buying a key from ebay.. only to spend more money getting it cut, and then spending more money going to the dealership to get the chip programmed.. whereas you can do it all in one place.. you might save a little bit of money doing the other way, sure.. but in my opinion.. it's just not that practical. the only cheaper way is to have them cut another valet key, with no keyless... but even the chip still needs to be programmed too still. kulo 05-21-2009, 05:52 PM That could work too. Its not like i need a get away route or nothin with the keyless.lol |
