My 08 Scion tC is shifting funny. I noticed yesterday that the clutch felt very stiff as opposed to normal. I didn’t think anything of it because it was a colder day then we had been having. Today when i went to pull out of the driveway, I couldn’t get the car out of 1st gear. I had to turn off the car, pump the clutch about 30 times and then I could get it out of first. Ok, I thought maybe the gears where just stuck because the car may have rolled back a smidgen.. EVEN though I use the ebreak. Anyway, I am driving down the road, and go to put it into second, wont budge. I am now in neutral and can put it into any gear. After pulling with more force then I would have liked, it kinda "poped" into 2nd. After that the problem seamed to go away, except for the stiff clutch. Today when I went to leave school, same deal. Couldn’t pull it out of first to go into reverse, and it was hard shift for the next few hundred yards. The car has 8,600 miles on it. It has had 3!!!! Oil changes, and currently is running Amsoil. The car is not beat up on, and I have drove my other Toyota "93 Corolla" into the ground.. over 200,000 and only 2 clutches. I cant imagine this on dyeing after only 8 or 9 thousand. Does anyone have any idea?

 

Don't even bother with it, its new take it to the dealership its under warranty.

 

Definitely take it in while you've got bumper to bumper coverage.

 

yea definitely take it to the dealer, do you have any mods on the car though? Especially related to tbe transmission, like a short shifter or anything? If you do have a short shifter take it off and put the stock one back on because whatever is wrong (it sounds like you have some bad gear synchros), the dealer can and will blame any mods you have on the problem regardless if the mod caused it or not. If you dont have any mods though you should be good.

 

As long as the mods are properly installed the dealer can't tag you for it. There's a lifetime of posts regarding this issue.

If an improperly installed mod is causing your problem (especially if you did it yourself), then that's not the dealer's problem. Otherwise, a dealer can't deny warranty service based on a mod unless it is the direct cause of your issue (ie, CAI can't be used to deny fixing a broken seat lever).

i can't think of too many mods that directly bang up a transmission other than the link between the seat and the steering wheel.

be ready to have blame put on you. we just had to pay 1300 to get a new clutch in our 08 with 20k miles

 

sounds like bad synchros...
