Is that color shifting? If so, PPG has a paint exactly like that.

no its just photoshopped. i made the layer "darken" so it just darkens the areas painted with what ever color.

if anyone has painted their car like this. what paint did you use and what was the result.

hey FLEA, I just took a look at your write-up. is that color matched paint? like from toyota? also, how much was all the paint?

edit: read further into it and you said you mixed your own paint. where did you get the paint and the empty can?

I've seen people paint their cars the chameleon color and it looks really good. For color matched paint, a pint costs me $19. The rattle cans cost me $3 and I go back there and make it myself.

wow. do you know if the clear coat you used is compatible with duplicolor? ive had wrinkling and bubbling issues with clear coat before and i dont want that to happen with my interior. thanks.

Yes the clear coat is compatible. If you experience wrinkling or bubbling it's because you aren't allowing enough time for the base coat to dry before applying the clear coat.

i painted a guitar a few years ago and it was definitely dry. i was wet sanding and polishing between coats so im pretty sure it was . then i sprayed it with the clear and about 10 minutes later it was all bubbled up. it seemed to eat away the colored paint.

You we're polishing it and then cleared it? That's your problem right there. You NEVER want to polish a surface and apply any paint or clear coat on top of it. All you're doing is contaminating the surface.

well that explains it. i realized after reading your DIY that it wasn't necessary.

Cool. So what color are you doing?

i like the electric blue? im just guessing on the name. ive seen a few tCs that were really blue. i wanted that color when i was buying the car but i couldnt find one. so i will live vicariously through my interior pieces. im going to look around and see if i can find something close to it 'pre-canned' so i dont have to mix it and get an empty can and all that.

i'm also going to take a trip to a pull and save and see if i can find a tC who's interior hasn't been picked clean and probably buy the whole center console, hvac, and bezel... just in case the project goes south.

If you paint as good as you photoshop, then go for it!

Make sure and set an entire day aside when the weather is nice. And the key is to TAKE YOUR TIME. Make sure to strip all of the armor all or whatever protective stuff you've rubbed into it over time. Allow base coats to dry and apply light coats and you'll be fine. Did I mention to take your time?

Post pics when you're done.

That looks pretty bad @ss! How did it turn out? I'd like to know - I may want to do that with mine, but red. Also, what kind of paint did you use?

Thanks for the update.
