Default need help and or suggestions please

Ok, so this might seem picky, because it probably is... but i am wondering how to add some horsepower to my car without comprimising much if any negative gas mileage.... only thing i have done is add a KnN air filter...

ive read a ton on here (this site is amazing with all the info provided for noobs like me) and i have learned that CAI can reduce gas mileage, and after the cpu compensates, that the horsepower gain goes away (is this true or did i understand wrong)

is there anything at all that i can do (that isnt outrageous in cost) that can add horsepower without sacrificing gas mileage?

would getting a free flowing muffler and or new exhaust achieve this? if so what kind of costs am i looking at?

thanks for everyone who shares the knowledge with people like me who just bought their first new car

If you drive properly, you can pull 34-35 hwy with I/H/E. And yes at WOT you will get worse mileage as you are burning more fuel as the ECU compensates for the added air in the motor to maintain the desired Air to Fuel ratios. As far as price, read and use the internet.

can you explain what the I/H/E is and how much horsepower it should add?

intake/header/exhaust

The power gains from a setup like that are debatable (sp?)

I love my setup personally..mods in profile..I haven't the slightest idea what the gains are or loss in MPG but either one is minimal...I drove from so cal to san jose (about 360 miles? something like that..) and still had some gas left over.

Also look into pulleys...nonstoptuning.com has a lot of information on them and they also have a thread dedicated to pulleys around here somewhere on the forum.

i installed everything myself and/or had a friend help me so I don't have any estimate on installation. Price is going to depend on the parts you buy. I don't remember exactly what I spent but a couple places to shop around are

wesellcarparts.com

dezod.com

ptuning.com

trdsparks.com

all of which are great websites to buy parts from. My header i got from wesellcarparts. My pulleys from dezod. My intake was from trdsparks. my exhaust was an xmas gift so i believe that was just purchased at a dealer.

As far as gains again it is debatable..maybe..15-20whp? somewhere in that ballpark but i could be wrong.

ok man thanks i appreciate it... when you say 15-20 hp.. you mean with all of the things you added correct?

plus i run an auto, so pullys would not help me correct? also, did you see any noticeable gas mileage reduction?

i'm also an auto just fyi. The pulleys will work on an auto the same way they do on a manual, you might be thinking of a lighter flywheel which (of course) only goes on a manual. And yes by 15-20 i mean with everything,

As far as gas mileage is concerned I didn't notice anything change..if it did go down i didn't notice..i averaged about 34-35mpg hwy on my trip to san jose last week.

You can make more than 15-20 hp from an intake, header, exhaust and pulley....a lot more. Like double....
I recommend
For intake: Injen
header: Tsudo or MMW (weapon R)
Exhuast: take your pick, but im not a fan of canister style exhausts. My fav is Magnaflow for a Naturally Aspirated (or non-boosted [turbocharged or supercharged] engine) tC or even a boosted one....
Pulley: NST makes some decent ones

Dont be afraid to buy some stuff used (look in the Classified section of this forum). Or to get dirty and install stuff yourself.

Hope that helps. If you buy all that stuff new it could easily be over a 1000 bucks in just parts, but if you look for deals you may be able to do it for 600-700 in parts

keep in mind this is going to potentially void your warranty and will make your car much louder.
