Among the less endearing behaviors exhibited by my xB is a disconcerting tendency for the front-end to hop under accelleration in low-trraction conditions. This is noticeable with traction control turned off in the wet from a standing start.
The xB is pure stock, 15" steel wheels, stock goodyear tires..and its TCM, if that matters
Aside from putting my lead-foot on a diet, has anybody got a cure for this?

Yes, leave the traction control on. That is what it was made for.

its a fwd. theres gonna be wheel hop with the stock tires. if you want no wheel hop, upgrade to stickier tires. if you don't want to spend money, then u might want to change ur driving habits. u say u get wheel hop in low traction conditions....are you trying to get off the line quickly? if you are, try slipping the clutch a little bit. or warming up the tires first.

Heres a thought, when you start to get wheel hop back off the gas till it stops.
:)
thats the only thing that will really make a difference outside of new tires.

not to be bashing on the xA/xB but i cant believe theres wheel hop with only 108hp! besides stickier tires you could also consider some motor mount inserts. theyre usually only like ~$25, but can be a pain to install sometimes. i have no idea if any are available for the xB yet though. ive used ES mounts in a few imports and it cut down on the wheel hop. you will notice a little vibration at idle, but nothing too bad. theres also the option of an engine dampener. it basically acts as a shock to prevent the motor from rocking too much. i also have no idea if they make these for xBs though.

My xA RS has the stock 205/40/17 Yoko Avus and Trac. It wheel hops like mad with the Trac ON. If I take the Trac off it will spin but without hop. Of course then the torque steer comes on.

Yeah, i get hop in the rain with trac on, too. Wet conditions make it difficult to get heat into the tires.
The situation is entering a NYC highway (west side highway) from a short merge lane with a stop sign before the merge. Accelleration to 40 needs to happen in a short distance, as traffic is tight.
Good to know i'm not the only one. Guess i'll swap out the tires when these wear out.
