Default MPG

I love my car. Its been a pleasure to drive every day, and I've had not a single issue with it that I didn't directly cause on my own. The one thing I can't seem to figure out though is why on Earth the gas milage is so horrible! Has anyone figured out anything we can do to improve gas milage significantly without major modification (weight reduction, significant engine modification, etc)? I love my car, but I'm getting tired of the 23MPG! Any suggestions?

if youre doing a lot of city driving, then you cant expect much better than around 23-25 mpgs...otherwise if youre doing a lot of highway driving, stop driving so fast, stop mashing on the gas pedal. 55-60mph is the optimal for gas saving.

you get better gas mileage than i do. i get 19-21 from city and highway. Just this past two weeks i tried driving speed limit wherever i went and managed to get 25mpg LOL. never doing that again.

I say get an intake and drive speed limit.

23 mpg is not the worse. Try overinflating your tires by 2 psi

there really isn't much you can do as cost effective ways of saving gas other than proper vehicle maitenance, and driving habits.

have your tires properly inflated, or overinflated by up to 5 psi over specs, use open windows and sun roof at speeds below 55 mph and then close them up and us a/c when going over 55 mph. don't accelerate aggressively, coast to stops in gear to make the ecu cut fuel to the engine. unload any unnecessary weight from the car that you don't need to take with you everywhere.

but seriously, your mpg isn't that bad. it is roughly what i get.

Quit giving rides to chubby girls. j/k

I get 26 MPG here in the city and 33-35MPG on the highway. A lot of it depends on your driving style,
road conditions, geography, etc. The MPG shown on the sticker are estimates, not exact figures.

Ease off the gas - like everyone has mentioned. Don't floor it coming away from a stop sign. Drive the speed limit on the highway. These things WILL make a difference if you can do them.

Like someone else mentioned, air pressure is another maybe. AT LEAST make sure the air pressure is correct (check when cold, in the morning). If it is, try adding 1-2 psi to see if it'll help.

I have an aem cold air intake and a trd axleback exhaust, before without the intake i was gettin roughly 320-335ish going all highways on 13 gallons. Now with the cold air intake, driving roughly 80 all the way, I got 380 on 11 1/2 gallons, driving from NYC to Rochester.

My car is dropped low with tein basic coilovers, 2.5 in the front 2.7 in the rear, negative camber, with 4psi more in the rear tires.

I went with I guess the "myths" of saving gas mileage, bought an intake, gets better drag when lowered, higher air pressure in the rear and the results were phenomenal. I mean, it's a huge improvement to what I did have, and if I did drive "normal" I could have probably even pushed it further >:].

Just my 2 cents.

same thing everyone else said, you don't have to go super slow, just don't gun it after stoplights. If you're in stop and go traffic, i learned that it doesn't matter how fast you go because you're going to have to come to a stop anyway

i went from about 20mpg city to about 29mpg...and i don't use my a/c unless I'm on the highway

I get 18 MPG. Mostly city and whatever highway driving I do at 80 MPH. With my driving style that's not too bad. I can't drive without heel and toeing or rev-match downshifting. I never learned how. I taught myself how to drive stick, and all I had to learn was Best Motoring and Option DVDs.

check your tire pressures, i also noticed that changing to an 18 in rim lowered my MPG by 2-3 mpg.

^^Well maybe that is your problem, I have never gotten below 25 mpg. If you drive crazy don't expect to get good gas mileage and don't complain about it.

If you keep it under 3000 RPMs while driving you will see your MPG go up. I tried it for a week and I used about a 1/3 less gas than I usually do.
