View Full Version : component systems and speakers....
SCI_TC_GUY 01-19-2005, 06:56 PM I'm gonna get a Component system and a set of coaxials for my tC....If I'm not mistaken, the front doors and a 5.25" size. And the rear panels are 6.5" size.....someone please correct me if i'm wrong.....
I'm debating on wether to get a 5.25" component system for the front and 6.5" coax for the rear.....or get a 6.5" component set (tweeter in front door, mid in rear) and 5.25"coax for the door....
let me know what you all think....
SCI_TC_GUY 01-19-2005, 08:30 PM ...
dgHotLava 01-19-2005, 08:36 PM componets up front...
coax in the rear (as filler)
SCI_TC_GUY 01-19-2005, 08:46 PM that's what i figured.....but I'd kinda like to keep the soundstage up front.....so i also thought about components up front then an extra midbass in the rear.....
jocdoc 01-19-2005, 09:42 PM dude, components up front , wait a few weeks, then rear...maybe. high end components like resonant engineering and you won't need any thing else. save your money on the RE 12 inch sub and you'll be the envy of your town.
SCI_TC_GUY 01-19-2005, 10:03 PM resonant engineering???? never heard of them......got a website???
SCI_TC_GUY 01-19-2005, 10:17 PM where do i get these-resonant engineering-subs and components at??????
nsain 01-20-2005, 04:40 AM stock front door speakers are 6.3" and the rear being 5.25 I think. You can go to www.reaudio.com and look at their products, you will have to call to order. its the best way to do it.
VtScionGuy 01-20-2005, 06:16 AM Comps up front. Rear midbass would sound funny. You don't sit in the back anyways.
Spend more money on better front speakers and you'll be glade you did. I fade out my rear speakers so I don't hear them. =P
What's your budget BTW. You have an amp yet?
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 12:07 PM see.....that's the way my last system was......i had MB Quart Premium line 6.5" components up front with tweeters on the dash with a kenwood 400watt 4 ch. amp and it was beautiful.....my budget goes wherever....I've already got an amp and sub...but it's nothing special.....i'm just in the process of putting together my next system to go in the tC....right now I"ve also got 2 12"W3's in a JL sealed box that i think i might use.....how much do the Resonant Engineering Components run????
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 01:30 PM BTW....when i said "an extra pair of midbass in the rear panels" i was talking like some free-air 8" or something to cover high end bass...so i get better overall coverage throughout the bandwidth
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 02:25 PM .... any takers???
sorry i cant help you either but i would like to know, i dont think many people have done speaker changes like this in the tC yet, most people seem pretty content with the sound, but Im with you i want more!
jocdoc 01-20-2005, 03:23 PM just call 'em. thats the great thing about RE's. They're not into mass production, just over the top product. i think the components are like $150 for the beginning line. that's what i got. when i spoke to them they kinda talked me out of the xxx's, you need kick panels(boxes) for the mids. for me, it still blows away the competition, you get your dB's from your sub anyway.
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 03:33 PM i don't care about them being loud anyway.....I'm just looking for superior sound Q......i was thinking about the JL audio TR series components........
I can get those for about $140

I am Mr. SQ, lols. Nut seriously what's your real budget for speakers. Then the forums peeps can throw you a few ideas.
Fixtion 01-20-2005, 04:14 PM I own the RE 6.5 comp. set. and they sound better than the TR's and equivalent if not sliightly better than the XR's. I would go REaudio. I have the SE sub also, which also kicks butt like the w6 for a fraction of the cost, 145 for the sub.
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 06:41 PM patience is my budget.......I'll have anything I want....i don't really want to spend more than 400 on a component system...
SCI_TC_GUY 01-20-2005, 08:23 PM ....
tbone587 01-20-2005, 11:18 PM where do u we get resonant engineering? Sounds like its a damn good sub to get....
ScionRI 01-21-2005, 01:58 AM jesus, www.reaudio.com don't know why nobody did that before..
i've got focal polyglass components and they have great sound quality, absolutely beautiful midbass, although they don't get incredible loud. Still, they can be had for like, 200 bucks, and i say it's worth it especially if you're going SQ.
VtScionGuy 01-21-2005, 02:57 AM For $400 bucks you could look for CDT, Focal Polykevlar, MQ QSD, Diamond Hex and etc on ebay. All great choices. Maybe get lucky and snag some Utopas, DLS Iridiums or Seas Performance.
From $250-$400 goes a LONG way in an SQ difference with components. A $150 difference in amps and other electric stuff is nothing compared to it.
scionguy05 01-21-2005, 03:21 AM i put infinity kappa series 6.5 wth componet in the front of my box, and infinity in the back and 10 inch infinty sub in the back, all running off mtx amps and i think it sounds great,i even kept the stock stero and it sounds awesome! this is my first time buying infinity products and i have no complaints! they make great speakers and subs

SCI_TC_GUY 01-21-2005, 12:31 PM thanks for the input guys..........does anyone know FOR SURE what size the front door speakers and rear panel speakers are??? crutchfield is saying they're both 5.25"
ChefRaekwon 01-21-2005, 11:18 PM Crutchfield is wrong. The front is 6.5" and the rear is a little bigger than 5.5. I made MDF speaker plates for the front and rear and put 6.5" components in the front and 5.8" components in the rear.
Fixtion 01-21-2005, 11:45 PM Chef Is correct. Crutchfield is ___. lol
SCI_TC_GUY 01-22-2005, 12:10 PM thanks
mandos 01-22-2005, 10:41 PM Awesome....
And just another suggestion here....what I've got...Elemental Designs eDi 6500s components. They floor the JL XR line....and yes, I've done a side by side comparison of them. Plus, the eD subs are dirt cheap and sound great as well.
If you wanna check them out, click on the ads for this forum...looks like they sponsor the ICE portion of Scion life.
And, if I've got time....door panel comes off tonight to see if I can get my eDi's in :D
nsain 01-24-2005, 03:56 AM front is 6.3", rear is 5.25" if I remember correctly on the rear.
velocitybb 01-24-2005, 06:45 AM Check out the M661 Diamond Audio Components. I just got them in, but gotta wait for the tax refund to hit, so I can get my whole system put in. Can't wait.
yatyeiboi 02-10-2005, 05:52 AM So does that mean the 5.25 diamond audio I bought for the front won't fit?
VtScionGuy 02-10-2005, 03:46 PM So does that mean the 5.25 diamond audio I bought for the front won't fit?
Did you get 5.25" for your fronts on the xB?
If so they'll work if you make an MDF(wood) ring to hold them.
yatyeiboi 02-10-2005, 09:22 PM I got them for my tc.
SCI_TC_GUY 02-11-2005, 05:13 PM make a mounting bracket out of some MDF and they'll fit.....
yatyeiboi 02-11-2005, 09:24 PM Usually are there major differences in the sound quality of the 5.25 and the 6.5 of the same series of a component set? Also, how would you guys think my car would sound if I had components in the front and mid of my car. I was thinking of putting the 5.25 in the mid panel, with the tweeters mounted somewhere. And then buying another 6.5 to put in the front.
simplespirit 02-12-2005, 06:56 PM For clarification, they're 6.3" in the front and 5.5" in the rear. Thr front tweeters are 1.2" if you need that also. That's straight out of the tC service manual. To go with VtScionGuy's recommendations also check out Morel, Rainbow, Dynaudio, ADS, Image Dynamics. and Phoenix Gold Ti Elites. If you're up for it and want the best bang for your buck you can always go DIY and put together custom components too.
yatyeiboi 02-15-2005, 08:51 AM How much does the shop usually charge for installing your entire system? I will supply the front and back speakers, amp, and all the wires. I just need them to install it for me. I know different shops charge different prices but I just need an estimation so I won't have a heart attack when they tell me the numbers.
