everyone needs the cut the corners right?

anyways, i want to buy a tc (a new one, not used).

when is the best time to buy a tc? when the 2010 models come out and the 2009 are on sale? is there still left over 2008 tc lingering around the dealer trying to sell?

i heard tc are priced like that and stays like that, would haggling down the price would be worth the effort?

oh, i'm from socal--san diego.

 

If there are any 2008s left, they are probably the RS 4.0 version, and probably automatic. There might be some 2009s still out there (depends on dealer and region) and they MIGHT be on sale. Probably not though, it's still very early in the 2010 model year season.

As for the price, you pay what is on the sticker. Only thing you MIGHT be able to haggle for are accessories and that's going to depend on the dealer. The Scion dealers don't make jack squat on the actual Scion sales... they make money on accessories.

Well best advice there would be to not add on anything at the dealer unless you absolutely need to. 99% of the accessories they will try to sell you can be purchased elsewhere, cheaper, and installed by yourself or with a friend. Saves a ton of money.

 

Before you buy the add ons from the dealer, Check out trdsparks.com. Thats where i had made my mistake when i got my tc.

Well the alarm you could have installed there (I did). But also consider there are many aftermarket alarms that might be better for you. I'd research that a bit first. You might find one of those you like better.

 

There's no haggle, but some dealers often have incentives for certain types of people, like students...seems like I recently saw one for $1,000 off for new grads.

Also, different dealers are willing to do things others are not. One example would be the premium floor mats, some dealers that already put them in won't remove them, while others don't have a problem doing so...all those little options can really add up quick.

 

^ Yup. College grad program is $1000 rebate, top tier interest rate, road side assistance. You need to graduate in the next few months and have a job at least lined up, or have graduated within the last 2 yrs with proof of employment.

 

^x2, i saved alot of money buy buying from them versus buying from the dealership. i saved $350 on my S/C.

 

Yea, I would wait to see the 2010 come to the dealerships, when I went to buy mine they didn't want to haggle or anything, just built my scion on the website and that was the price they wanted. I was able to get a few extra hundred dollars for my piece of s*** car i traded in. Personally, I would try not to get alot of options because it seems Scion overprices all of the extras such as the axle-back exhaust etc. You can probably find those same options from an aftermarket company and like it alot more.

 

Dealers in new orleans have thrown pure pricing out the window on scions for the past few years by taking 1 to 2k off of the msrp. Memphis dealers are starting to do the same.

i might use that to my advantage. i graduated two years ago but recently found a job.

that alarm system is crap.

you can go down to any audio shop and buy a good viper alarm and get it installed for less than 500. dealer probably wants around that for the factory, but i hear all these horror stories about the alarm not working, etc.

i have a viper and it worked wonders at my previous apt. complex when people tried to jack with my car.

make it seem like you don't actually want to buy a car but are more of just shopping around, that's when they'll do what they can to get you into the car. throwing in accessories or giving you rebates that you don't even qualify for lol

 

I will never understand why people buy new cars.

I'm not complaining, because without them, I cannot get the killer prices on low mileage used cars that I've bought over the years, but come on.

The absolute easiest way to save yourself a crap ton of cash is to buy a used 2008 or 2009. You can shop around, be picky, find exactly what you want with extremely low mileage, and save somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%.

Another stupid thing people do is finance. I've paid cash for every car I've ever bought, and that generally gets you a $1000 to $2000 discount upfront for the amount we're talking about here. When I was looking for tC's, dealer knocked off $1500 for paying cash before the haggling process even started.

If you want to screw around with multiple dealers and leave it to random chance, you might get lucky and save yourself a few bucks.

If you buy used and get yourself in a position to pay cash, you will save some serious $$$

I paid cash for mine, asked about a discount since I wasn't financing, but he explained that they weren't allowed to take anything off (else they wouldn't be allowed to sell Scions any more), cash was the same as credit to them.
