View Full Version : Tell me what you think of this exhaust idea

I have an '05 Black Cherry, xB. Ok - I've done a little work, and I think it'll look nice when I'm done, but I need some input, and help if you guys can.
First - Just what do you think of the idea, I'm going to try to get dual exhaust, coming out in the dead center of the rear, somewhat reminisent (sp?) of the Porsche Boxster, but I'm gunna go with the square exhaust tips, I think it'll go with the whole boxy look.
Second - I should be able to do almost all of the work myself, but I can't seem to find a bumper replacement with an exhaust outlet in the middle (no surprise there), and I don't want to go one-off because, well, I'm poor. Anybody know of a bumper out there?
P.S. Don't spare my feelings, if it's the dumbest thing you've ever heard, or if you think that I'm an idiot for hoping for a cheap way to do this, straight tell me.

That has got to be the slickest idea I've ever heard of, you're a automotive design genius.

Its already been done. George from Scinergy IE did it to his box. His screen name is KoolB

Don't forget the Five axis widebody tC, that has exactly what he's talking about.

Center exhaust is cool!!! You've probably seen this -

Dual square side exhaust would be unique. Get creative!!!

I've been talking to some peeps for awhile about the side exhaust, it'd need a lot of body work to pull off nicely. I'm talking F-150 Lightning side style too.

Man, I thought I was gunna be the first. *sadness* I still think I'll do it tho. even if I'm not the first, I still came up with it on my own, and I think it'll look good.

i like that pic above , but my plan if i were tp do side would be to just cut the hole in the side of the rear lip. it'd be dope

On the white XB with the dual tips coming out the center, anyone know what lip that is or if it is custom?

SamonFire, what muffler/mufflers were you planning on using? Also have you decided on what to do for the bumper cut out?

I like George's dual center exit exhaust the most. Though I have not looked under his xB or seen it in person, I do think its the nicest set-up. I'm just wondering how he relocated the charcoal cnister and related lines, or if there is no muffler at all.

If you wish for side exit exhaust, good luck.

Here's a few things to think about. How is the piping going to be routed w/ the muffler? The resonator sits pretty much dead center in the system. Unless you don't care how loud its going to be.

Also, how low do you plan on going? The frame rails will pretty much prevent you from a drop lower than an inch unless you'll have air. That's if you are going w/ 2.25 inch piping.

I'm not an exhaust expert and have no foraml training, but these were some of the issues I dealt with when I originally decided to change my exhaust set-up. Yes, side exit was a thought also, but I went a different route when I got under the car.

Just a few things to think about.

it's a customized OEM lip. If you know how to (or know someone else that can) weld plastic, it's fairly easy. - You can tell it's an OEM peice becuase there is still a seam in the middle between the tips (they didn't weld the two halves together).

You CAN 'body fill' the original exhaust cut-out closed, but it wont last a long time over the long term and will always be visible in the right angles. Problem is almost nothing sticks to the material and it can't be solvent welded (glued) -- The piece is made from PP-E/P (TSOP) for FYI for anyone who can weld it. 'Fiber Flex' welding rods works ok on it, but straight polypropylene (PP) black rod does fine.

never knew you could weld plastics.

Drop a full fairinged sport bike a few times and youll learn all about plastic welding.. I dig the center exhaust idea..

Sorry I have not answered sooner but my computer line has been down. Ok here it is this is the stock lip with a piece from another lip plastic welded in to cover existing exhaust hole. Magnaflow Muffler single inlet dual outlet so both tips are functional. Charcoal canister is still there as is all of the hoses we put the muffler in at a tilt so it would not be seen from the rear. Hope this answers some of your questions if there are more please ask.

It's easiest if you just Google the info about it. It involves using super-heated compressed air or, some use a type of soldering iron (of sorts). It's much like Oxy/Acetylene welding (in skill).

anyhow - Google - easiest wasy to learn info, you can buy semi-crappy welders at Harbor Freight to practice with.

Like the square exhaust tip idea. I would like to go duals sometime in the future, but not centered. The duals look good in the center though.

Very common in Canada. It's actually made by Borla exclusively for TRD / Canadian Toyota dealers. I see them all the time around here...

This is the one on my car.
