View Full Version : if i were to own a shop, what would u like to see it have?
Dkfung88 06-17-2009, 02:57 AM so my friend is planning to open a shop and he wants to go into the scion scene. he asked me what kind of parts would owners like to see once they walk into the shop and would like to consider having in their car? he doesnt really want to stock accessories, but more like clutches and pistons or other performance parts...
so if i were to give you five parts that are performance parts, what would you like to see in the shop?
ack154 06-17-2009, 03:01 AM Trying to think of simple things to actually keep in stock here...
Intakes. Springs. Sway bars. Strut bars. Short shifters.
The list could be endless... but ya, that's my 5.
Dkfung88 06-17-2009, 03:02 AM yeah i recommended short shifters as the first thing... but he said he doesnt wanna stock those kind of accessories.. hes looking to buy parts that gives you horsepower or something people might need like clutches.. big parts
xD_kidd91 06-17-2009, 03:10 AM I think its best to go with the basic performance parts, exhaust. springs. intake ect but also ssk, sway bars nd pulleys ..It will give many tuners the start they want. and also install the parts on the side if they wish to pay more lol. I always wanted to own a custom shop. one of my dreams (shrug) haha
Dkfung88 06-17-2009, 06:33 AM yeah i told him about that but he said he doesnt want accessories.. he wants big stuff... big performance parts..
If he wants to survive as a shop, he's going to probably need to build up his customer base a lot more before he starts buying stock of big ticket item power parts. He won't be able to run a profitable shop just doing performance work unless he's got really good backing from someone or if he already has a really good reputation as a tuner.
Most shops tend to do volume business of the basics because it's hard to rely on income from occasional big ticket custom jobs unless he somehow has a steady stream of big ticket customers.
Unless of course, he's got really low overhead I suppose. A few big custom performance jobs a month might hold him over then.
Has he run the numbers with the bank or whoever's doing the loan for him? Is there a business plan? Market survey?
If he wants to STOCK power parts, he's going to have to be locked in on particular makes and models right? Unless he's going to do custom installs of generic turbos and supercharger or something. He's better off NOT stocking things until he gets a customer who wants to order thing. That way, he doesn't have any holding costs and the parts aren't on his books as inventory for very long.

"Can I get the Springs, Exhaust, and... OH YEAH! A copy of Saturday Night Beaver please!"
youngflyer 06-17-2009, 07:00 AM i would stock universal things like gauges hids intake filters car care products and such!
Dkfung88 06-17-2009, 07:05 AM this guy is pretty well known... and he doesnt want to be an ordinary shop that sells gauges and filters and stuff to compete with other shops... a lot of ppl are already saying he is able to take down a lot of other shops in the area. the first thing he wants to do is make pistons and manifolds.. all custom.. for the tC

stock the shop with tC's with Lambo engines, i dunno if you can get any bigger than that
13edge 08-05-2009, 06:40 AM He needs to stock 17"x7" rims, with a +25 to +29 offset, that weighs 19 lbs or less.
Also, a matching set of 17"x8" rims, with a +27 to +31 offset, that weighs 20 lbs or less.
Please stock this and end my current run of frustration, which is currently at 68 days.
your staff should be all hot looking women
