Alright a friend of mine doesnt have a SL account so he asked me to post his issue for him because he was tripping out last night. He has a sw tc with about 80,000 miles on it.
Yesterday he got into his car and started it with no problems, but as he slowly let out the clutch without pushing on the gas, he heard a clanking sound. Any ideas?

Probably items in the engine bay rattling around when the engine started bogging down and moving in its mounts. Why would he be letting off the clutch without giving it gas?

Well I do that often if I am facing down hill. Keeps the rpm's to a minimum and it engages in less amount of time if the hill is steep enough.
Otherwise I have no idea why one would purposefully engage it without pushing the gas if they were just trying to go somewhere. Unless this was for diagnostics purposes I agree that engine bogging moves around a lot of stuff while it bog's.

Im guessing basically right before he gives it gas. when he is going up his driveway.

if you are going down hill you engage it without pushing the gas? Sounds more like your stressing your motor or gears. Hmm..I doubt the clank is anything, just tell him not to do it. Could be the clutch dying out.

Not like super downhill, just like kinda flat. Sometimes I like to drive like I am still learning to drive stick lol. Otherwise I do not do this often at all.
but yea just before he is giving it gas makes sense. Hmm my car clunks loud when I put it in 2nd with the clutch pushed in sometimes. That and reverse lol, but thats just gear stuff.
Has it happened again?

He needs to practice driving a manual more then. You shouldnt wait until it is stalling out to give it gas. Should be one fluid motion.
