View Full Version : weapon -r xb intake pics...? flowmini98 01-22-2005, 05:36 AM does anyone have picture of an XB with an installed weapon -r dragon intake..?if so can u post it here hotbox05 01-22-2005, 06:49 PM weapon r is garbage. the filter barely filters and their intakes have been known to throw check engine lights , and they show us an element and we are sposed to be impressed? squirrel 01-22-2005, 08:25 PM I would seriously rethink about what intake you want to get. NJthunder5spd 01-23-2005, 12:50 AM i have the weaponR intake n ive never seen a CEL :eyebrow: im not using the "filter" that it came with though.. im actually using a 12" k&n cone filter. flowmini98 01-23-2005, 03:52 AM yeah i was looking at the filter element..and ill probly replace it with a TRIED AND TRUE....k&n after a few months. Resolve 01-23-2005, 04:01 AM I dont have pics but can try and get some i have Weapon*R and Weapon*R filter no issues or CEL and have had about 2 months and drive at least 60 miles a day.. and get better gas milage if drive normal not alot of speeding or racing(80 MPH or less).. and get same gas milage i used to 27 to 28 MPG if i get on it or if i race around with it.. (85 MPH+ or spinning tires and stuff) and throttle response is alot better Plus paid 116 shipped.. flowmini98 01-23-2005, 04:04 AM resolve..thanks for your info ...does anyone else have anything to add about this product? djct_watt 01-23-2005, 04:11 AM remember. . . you can also ask advice and you can selectively choose which advice to actually listen to. . . I've heard multiple accounts of the foam filters actually falling apart and being sucked into a deformed shape. Choose wisely. bB384 01-24-2005, 09:59 AM I would just get it for the piping and throw on a filter from: K&N, APEXi, Blitz, or HKS. That's assuming the piping doesn't look like ____. AKgoalie7 01-24-2005, 11:20 AM just spend 30 more bucks and get the injen shorty.... it'll give ya peace of mind... that's what i'm buying with some of my tax check... flowmini98 01-25-2005, 04:09 AM i dosent look bad at all.....you really cant see all that much of the tube anyway.....ill just replace the filter in a few months when i pull the front bumper for paint! NJthunder5spd 02-02-2005, 03:56 AM as for the filter gettin sucked it.. im not exactly in agreement with u. i have the filter retrofitted onto my moms 99 blazer 4.3L v6.. no such warping or falling apart n that motor has wayyyyy more displacement than our motors. im not sure what the compression ratio is but that thing sure can "suck". djct_watt 02-02-2005, 04:16 AM Well, logic dictates that just because it doesn't happen to one person, does not mean it will never happen. Secondly, if it happens to many people, odds are it will increase the likelihood it will happen to someone else. I see a lot of people use the "BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO ME" line, but it doesn't mean squat. Just because you don't get shot the first time you wear a kkk uniform in the middle of oakland, does not mean it won't happen if you do it again. My opinion on weapon R is that they have poor quality control, and that some of the filters may be good. But I'm sure they allow far more unacceptable filters to hit store shelves than other companies (lack of random testing). NJthunder5spd 02-02-2005, 04:28 AM what type of cars were these filters used on that they fell apart ? griecos_xb 02-02-2005, 04:46 AM hey dick watt ,what r u talking about, are u that bored to try to make up stories about products ,or do u have any backin of you accusations :blah: djct_watt 02-02-2005, 07:11 AM you're an idiot. . . don't accuse me of crap. . . I don't bull sh** around and if you knew me or what I post you would know that. Allblackxb (doesn't really come on the forums any more) had this happen to him, you moron. Ask him. But actually, be my guest and don't come out of your ignorance. I'm trying to be helpful, not an A** hole. So please please buy the intake and kill your motor. Just because someone else knows something you don't, doesn't mean you should accuse them of bull sh**. You just show your ignorance. djct_watt 02-02-2005, 07:38 AM :blah: :blah:  :P eeeeeeer retarded eeeeerrr :ttth:    hotbox05 02-02-2005, 10:03 AM sid you really have gone insamenabad. djct_watt 02-02-2005, 10:09 AM you hotbox, you know what I'm talkin about with the weapon R's. . . yeah, especially about weapon R. Weapon R = the devil. Like I would have anything to gain from saying so! Damn. . . I disappear from the forums for a week or so, and suddenly some whacko's are wavin BS flags in my face. hotbox05 02-02-2005, 10:15 AM lol dude , chill , u on sumptin? i very much agree with yer reasoning and ideas about weapon r as both a company and as a filter element. i'd prolly rock some weapon r seat brackets tho , nothin on my motor tho , well maybe an engine brace , well nothing that has to do with performance. NJthunder5spd 02-02-2005, 03:25 PM ummmm yeah.. maybe we could get back to the topic at hand Pimpe_Ok 02-02-2005, 03:42 PM  ok all, in all acualety do u realy think any filter is better then another just think of waht they are made of 95% of filters are made of cotton goze the same stuff used in hospetals to sock up blood.. so think how good can that realy be?? for filtering that is... k&n only has 4 layers of the stuff at most... the other 4% of filters are made of paper very ristrictive... come on u try breathing through a pice of paper see if that works... and the other 1% of filters are made of fome.... now i am not puting any one down or claming to know it all but if a guy asks for pics and help on something he want to spend his hard ernd monye on... why rag on him for that or start shooting his ideas to hell.... so for all u that like to just give creap and not advice.... think about what u are doing beffor u do it..... :tap: its not always better just cuz u pay more for it.... ok.... just my two cents..... :relief: NJthunder5spd 02-02-2005, 04:17 PM its been shown that a filter such as the k&n has better filtering properties with also having the most possible flow. they have flow machines that have a pingpong ball located in it.. when u put a very restrictive filter over the suction plate the ball shoots to the top, when u put a k&n filter onto the same plate there is so much flow that the ball doesnt move at all. theres a few filters out there that have a similar style to k&n n they seem to be the best compared to the characteristics of a foam filter. look in a vacuum cleaner.. something that depends on vacuum to do its job. most contain a HEPA filter which is designed almost exactly like the wavy shape of a k&n filter. i had just stated that i had a weaponR intake n that i wasnt using the filter because i have a 12" k&n cone filter. but the weaponR foam filter is on my moms truck. i guess i'm one of the lucky few that received a good foam filter because i myself have never heard of any problems with this filter besides the fact that they just dont flow/filter as good as a k&n. theres is absolutely no reason for anyone to get all upset or defensive about this especially something off the internet. take it all with a grain of salt :blah: Pimpe_Ok 02-02-2005, 04:24 PM  i know i take no ofens to this lol i have the wepon r cuz i like it i was just saying that peeps dont need to start raging on others when some one is looking for help... u know... lol i also love k&n life long member but the wopen r is all i coul aford at the time..never had any probs with it eather... hotbox05 02-02-2005, 05:46 PM just be careful cuz foam can both scrunch in and it has worse filtering capabilities. the piping itself has no problem. djct_watt 02-02-2005, 11:13 PM Yeah. . . we are talkin from experience. . . the weapon R pipe is a good buy, but it is worth it to upgrade the filter element. Just anything other than foam, and preferably something with some kind of structural brace. . . even many cheap "performance" filters come with some kind of bracing, mesh or otherwise, to keep the filter from deforming over time. But a properly built, high quality foam filter IS effective, but the Weapon R's lack that, and it is fairly obvious. Purchasing a new filter is a good investment, but there is nothing wrong with the pipe (except rare instances of recurring CEL). But I'm not ragging on anybody's idea. . . I just blew up because someone accused be of BS, and has no qualifications for it whatsoever. For that I am sorry I overreacted, but I'm still right. NJthunder5spd 02-03-2005, 12:03 AM the weaponR "secret weapon intake" filter seems to be of better construction it has webbing/bracing on the inside n outside so maybe this time there wont be any problems with it... they should probably drop there "cheap" line of filters n stick with whats good, the pipe n a new style filter http://www.weapon-r.com/japanese/store/html/images/swintake2.jpg Hotbox13 02-03-2005, 12:25 AM i just boought the weapon-r and installed it this past weekend. so i'll give you more info on long term use. as for now, love the added power and sound djct_watt 02-03-2005, 05:58 AM the secret weapon looks really good! wow, what a difference NJthunder5spd 02-03-2005, 03:20 PM everyone thats purchased the "dragon" style intake should write weaponR n complain about the filter n request the new style as a replacement Pimpe_Ok 02-04-2005, 03:57 AM  lol itis all good.. i dont know i bout the wepon r and it has a mesh of metel on the out sied and the inside.... that is good right??? i guess i must have gotn the new redisigned on or is this how they'v been all this time..?? hotbox05 02-04-2005, 06:55 AM the "dragon" style had no reinforcement at all just a slip on / slin in filter and if could crush or get partially sucked in. not to mention foam normally is worse in both filtering and performance , not always but often . Pimpe_Ok 02-04-2005, 03:31 PM  dame u guys now i am going to have to go to autozone and get me a k&n filter u guys are freaking me out..... j/k about the dame u thing.... i think i will go after work to pick one up hey what sizes is the pipe opening of the dragon short ram intake... dang i am going to have to get a new cracet and every thing to hu... well u guys are saying its worth it and i am starting to freak out about the sucking in of the fome and what not..... djct_watt 02-05-2005, 09:20 PM if you really don't want to buy one, it's understandable. . . just make sure to keep an eye on the thing. . . eitherway, you'll probably swap it out at 15k miles, rather than recharge the thing (if you even can). The K%N or comporable is a good buy, as they can be recharged and reused. WeaponR_Ray 02-09-2005, 07:02 PM All of our current Dragon Filters have a full mesh cage surrounding the foam, unlike the previous designs. The mesh is identical to those on our new Secret Weapon Filters. djct_watt 02-10-2005, 05:44 AM Nice to know. . . I'm very bitter towards weapon R. . . as you can tell. . . bad past experiences. WeaponR_Ray 02-10-2005, 06:52 AM I'm very sorry for any past bitterness you have with our company. I have been here for a little over 6 months, and have since been working to improve things here. You maybe reluctant, but I invite you and any other board member to come down to the shop and see just we're all about, and what's changed since your experience. I'm all about customer satisfaction, and believe the most important R&D statements come from the end user. |
