Default 2006 Stereo speakers cut in and out! Grrrrr!

Hi! Just bought a 2006 xB to replace our 2005 xB that was totaled in an accident. (Hubby is okay, thank goodness - was hit by a guy running a red light.)

The Problem - The Stereo sound gets static and then cuts in and out, sometimes when we go over a bump, and sometimes for no reason. Everything else looks right, (controls work) but no sound comes out.

This happens whether it's on radio, CD, or iPod, at any volume. We took it back to the dealer 3 times!!!! All three times, they don't know what's wrong, but it works temporarily, and then goes out again. Now, there has been no sound for over 1 1/2 weeks? Anyone have an idea?

Any suggestions would be a blessing - Thank you so much for reading this!

Angie

Check all of the wiring. Specifically, the connectors on the speakers and back of the headunit. Sounds like something's loose.

Sounds like the positive lead on one of the speakers is hitting the metal somewhere along the way. Check the wire harness at both ends (behind the radio, and behind each speaker) to see if any of the wires cause the issue to happen again.

COmmon problem if the prior owner had an aftermarket unit installed for the wiring harness to be loose or damaged... I hope its the first not the second

also make sure the wires are not spliced open...as stated above if someone had a aftermarket radio put in some shops tap into other wires ,then when removed the wire is bare and able to touch other wires or metal in the car...

Try what they all said, but it could be the radio too. The factory stereo is not good, it's the cheapest factory head unit I've ever seen. The first one that came with the car would jump stations every now and then, then the seek stopped working and I got it replaced. Now the factory replacement turns off and ejects the CD about every 20th time you press any button on it (even when there is no CD in), and sometimes just decides to turn off and eject a CD when you don't even push a button (again even without there being a CD in it). I've given up on trying CD's in it.

That's why yours is good. That's the best way they work, out of the car. haha.

Anyone know if Pioneer even makes them? I highly doubt Pioneer would put their name on, or even make something so cheap. It seems like they're built by some off brand cheap electronics company and Toyota pays Pioneer to let them put Pioneer's name on them.

You obviously haven't seen one of Pioneer's barrel built aftermarket stereos. Some of them are so cheap that they make the OEM sets look stellar.

Hmm, that's a feature not a flaw!

OP, sounds like your wiring is loose/intermittent. Since all the sound cuts out, start at the connectors behind the HU. Check the wiring at the door end also as GP.
