This thought comes to me about once a month, I know it would take a lot of work to do. Just a wild dream I have. Gardiner 01-22-2005, 11:31 PM Kind of like a Shogun! hotbox05 01-23-2005, 12:00 AM why a northstar? hmm . i guess it is new. screw that new vette motor. supposedly theyre making a kit for the 350. Gardiner 01-23-2005, 12:03 AM Something about that 32 valve Northstar engine, I love the way it sounds. Gardiner 01-23-2005, 12:09 AM Here is a Shogun for those that do not know what it is. It's a Ford Festiva with a Tarus SHO engine in the back. http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/pics/SHOgun001/SHOgun1-1.jpg jct 01-23-2005, 01:13 AM how bout a 528 create hemi behind the front seats and turn it into a wheel stander  hotbox05 01-23-2005, 01:29 AM Here is a Shogun for those that do not know what it is. It's a Ford Festiva with a Tarus SHO engine in the back. http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/pics/SHOgun001/SHOgun1-1.jpg that has got to handle soooooo ____tily , good fun tho , til u spin it , lol it's gotta be squirrelly as all hell. have u guys seen the svt cobra in the focus zx3? now thats a ford i could live with Gardiner 01-23-2005, 02:39 AM The Focus V8 is a beast, there is one running around here in North Georgia. kidkamel 01-23-2005, 03:15 AM dropping a 350 in the box has come to mind a lot. I have a 383 stroker motor in the garage for my 56 chevy pickup what about putting it in the box instead Or doing something like this to the box http://img.s10forum.com/album48/aai.jpg firesquare 01-23-2005, 03:26 AM i saw this posted a long while back this would be sort of similar http://www.cwstuning.com/gallery/albums/coupe-degolf/Image046.sized.jpghttp://www.cwstuning.com/gallery/albums/coupe-degolf/Image054.sized.jpg Holy torque steer batman!!! CWS tuining did this animal heres the V8 focus if nobody has ever heard of it. if you havent you gotta see this thing in person. i hightly recomend it http://www2.uol.com.br/bestcars/carros/saloes/sema03/focus-rs8-1g.jpghttp://www2.uol.com.br/bestcars/carros/saloes/sema03/focus-rs8-4.jpg i think this was a sema car in 03. this is fuel injected 4.6 dgHotLava 01-23-2005, 03:35 AM Here is a Shogun for those that do not know what it is. It's a Ford Festiva with a Tarus SHO engine in the back. http://www.shotimes.com/php-bin/pics/SHOgun001/SHOgun1-1.jpg that has got to handle soooooo ____tily , good fun tho , til u spin it , lol it's gotta be squirrelly as all hell. have u guys seen the svt cobra in the focus zx3? now thats a ford i could live with its no different than a porshe setup, so i don't see why it whould handle poorly or be squirley. but once that tail wants to see whats around front, you better know how to drift or hang on for the ride... hotbox05 01-23-2005, 05:32 AM it would handle poorly cuz it's a fwd car thats been retrofitted , and the motor is gonna be haevy compared to a porsche. maybe i'm wrong. firesquare 01-23-2005, 05:43 AM the car is dirt light and a big motor equals very hairy riding car i think only 3 were ever made. Jay leno has i think two. one has N2o in it. turbo mag did a article on it a w h i l e back. some people did their own conversons though. think go kart with 220 HP and light weight car it will be fine ;) dgHotLava 01-23-2005, 02:13 PM i can see if you did not do anything to the suspension, it would. but clearly they did suspension work.... isn't there a renault that has this as an option???? firesquare 01-23-2005, 05:09 PM yup the renault cilo V6. its originally a FWD 4 cyl but a factory option adds a V6 in the middle  http://bestcars.free.fr/Mondial2002/Renault%20Clio%20V6%202.jpghttp://bestcars.free.fr/Mondial2002/Renault%20Clio%20V6%201.jpg http://thecars.free.fr/renault/clio_V6/clio_V6_11.jpg  firesquare 01-23-2005, 05:15 PM a couple years back when i was on the www.Focaljet.com forums, ford focus tuners put a ZETEC 4 with a jackson racing supercharger in the middle of the car!! i sav a video of it and it was crazy. Since the focus was fords best FWD chassis ever it had near 50/50 and was a go kart on the track with the right suspension SICK George 01-23-2005, 07:17 PM You folks dreaming of mid-engine V-8 power in a box had better get out your tape measures! Maybe with a Toronado tranny... You might be able to do a front engine/rear drive arrangement if you want to move the firewall back and drive from the back seat! George showpaojoe 01-23-2005, 07:42 PM This was a thought I had as well. Cut out the rear end and drop in a 3sgte and have a rwd setup since its easy to run around 400hp. I could care less for drifting even though it would take 3 times the practice to do it that with any other front engine rwd setup but this way I get rwd and a street monster that would be untouchable. mynameisphunk 01-24-2005, 05:55 AM the shogun IS different from a porsche 911 setup, if that's what you mean...a 911 is truly rear-engined, whereas the shogun is mid-engined (engine behind seats, but in front of rear axle). if you're referring to a porsche boxster, which i would imagine you weren't because there are plenty of other mid-engined cars and i don't know why you would single out porsche, then yes, they're similar. the reason the northstar would make for a good mid-engined/rwd scion xB project is: how many other late-model V8's do you know that came in a FWD application? this sets it up perfectly for MR drivetrain layout, as the transmission could relatively simply be adapted to sit slightly forward of the rear wheels and drive them just as it would sit that way over the front wheels in a stock cadillac. can't say it would handle terribly well, but it would probably be a blast on the drag strip. only big drawback is that they were only paired with an automatic transmission...but you could still have an absolute blast at the bracket drags rattling off consistent low 13's with perfect launches every time :P hotbox05 01-24-2005, 06:46 AM think 2zz , thatll be like 13's hotbox05 01-24-2005, 06:56 AM oh and a motor inside the passenger compartment is asking for problems , from smeels , to leaks , to heat. ProtoCulture 01-24-2005, 08:19 AM Smells and heat are not a problem in a well sealed engine compartment. Think about an old Volkswagon bus or squareback. Those cars have engine access panels inside the passenger compartment. One could theoretically work on those engines with the vehicle in motion (not recommended) :) hotbox05 01-24-2005, 08:26 AM yeah but look at that shogun , or even the renault , a buddy of mine has an old econoline and all sorts of smells and heat travels up and through the fully sealed doghouse ( in that case it's a better heater than the actual heater) for an xb if i was gonna do a weird crazy cool setup like this i would put a 502 rat motor up front and tub the rear. firesquare 01-24-2005, 08:30 AM why not a 540 go bigger i saw a 502 in the last gen RWD monte carlo oh those cams in there *drool........ ^_^ ProtoCulture 01-24-2005, 09:42 AM Sufficed to say, the sealing of the compartment would be crucial. I would not however put some huge engine in the front and rear-wheel drive. It would handle like crap! mynameisphunk 01-24-2005, 10:54 AM it would go like crap too...you wouldn't be able to hook up with no weight over the rear wheels. the northstar is actually doable without going full tube frame, i would think...there was a guy at waterfest last year at englishtown raceway in new jersey (big volkswagen show) with a 1.8t mid engined rwd mk2 ('85-92) golf...this would be the same concept, with a bigger motor. should work with enough time, labor, and money. oh, and northstars can be had relatively cheaply because there are a LOT of them on the road and a LOT of them in wrecking yards. Lip 01-24-2005, 01:07 PM http://racetec.net/vtecmini.htm I've seen this one in person. stock classic mini weighs 1300lbs hotbox05 01-24-2005, 08:19 PM ok then go all aluminum 350 , and rwd , it couldnt be too bad. Xbilly 01-24-2005, 08:49 PM How'bout a box with a midengine northstar with an all wheel drive setup. Then you could atleast use it to do tight donuts VanillaRice 01-24-2005, 08:51 PM What is the purpose of the vented hood with the engine in the rear? Looks? TheScionicMan 01-24-2005, 09:36 PM What is the purpose of the vented hood with the engine in the rear? Looks? I'd bet they still have the radiator and cooling system up front and piped to the engine... DarkBoxJr 01-24-2005, 10:56 PM I'm thinking the 4.0L V6, twin turbo'd, would look real nice. I wish I had pics of my older brother's cars from back in the day... V8 Vega with NOS, 350 in a Datsun PU This was back in 82-83, the Datsun had 4 12's across the rear of the cab and the speaker box extended to just past the rear wheel wells. There was a hill a 1/4 mile away from our house and you could hear him coming before you could see him coming... |
