View Full Version : Getting S-tech Springs/ Shocks needed or not? Fish 01-23-2005, 10:44 PM ^^^^^^^ Kind of hoping to order them tonight so Any input would be appreciated. If they are needed what kind? TRD? or........ jdmrider 01-23-2005, 10:56 PM I've got the s-techs on my xb and the factory struts and shocks are holding up great. Fish 01-24-2005, 03:11 AM Thanks for the response jdmrider but i kinda need some input from the guys with tC's..........I know your looking i see the views.........I really need to know so i can order it all at once if I need shocks too hahaitzskippy 01-24-2005, 06:08 AM all lowere cars need aftermarket shocks/struts, preferably adjustable shocks/struts nero_tC 01-24-2005, 01:09 PM all lowere cars need aftermarket shocks/struts, preferably adjustable shocks/struts even if it's with TRD springs? hahaitzskippy 01-25-2005, 12:12 AM let me clarify stock shocks are made for the height and the spring rate (stiffness) of the stock springs. if you get aftermarket springs, your stance will be lower (shorter springs) and the spring rate will be higher than stock. since your springs are shorter, that gives less distance for your shock to rebound; thus not allowing your shock to full extend and use all of its power to stop the bouncing. to make this worse, the stiffer springs will make the shock work harder since stiffer spring needs a bigger force to stop it from moving. the stock shocks setup will work on any springs. including the TRD. its just how well you treat the shocks, and again, i prefer if people get aftermarket springs, spend a little more and get adjustable shocks, you'll feel a big difference. Fish 01-25-2005, 12:22 AM What type of shocks/struts would i need then? I'm just a bit new to all this. hahaitzskippy 01-25-2005, 12:47 AM well currently, there are no aftermartke shocks/struts out there. the only shock/struts our there for the TC is those by TRD. if you arent a race-o-holic and worry much bout ur car. i say the TRD springs and TRD shocks will work perfectly. they are even covered by a lifetime warranty including WEAR-TEAR so if they blow or go out, you can have the deal replace them. and get the TRD sway while your at it. rumor has it that lowering your car will increase body roll Fish 01-25-2005, 12:53 AM Will the TRD shocks/struts work with the Tein s-techs? The TRD springs aren't quite low enough for me. PunkInDrublic 01-25-2005, 12:56 AM Fish, where are you ordering your S-Techs from? Fish 01-25-2005, 01:09 AM I'm not entirely sure yet i saw them on www.creativecompacts.com but i dont know If thats a good reliable site or not. I know one guy has gotten his from their but i think he was sposored by them so not the most unbiased source. hahaitzskippy 01-25-2005, 01:51 AM i actually got S tech's myself. im not gonna get trd shocks/struts, im jus gonna ride on stock shocks and stuff for a while then buy aftermarket. Fish 01-25-2005, 02:01 AM So considering you know alot more about this than i do im guessing that the probability of the shocks blowing is very small? nero_tC 01-25-2005, 02:08 AM well currently, there are no aftermartke shocks/struts out there. the only shock/struts our there for the TC is those by TRD. if you arent a race-o-holic and worry much bout ur car. i say the TRD springs and TRD shocks will work perfectly. they are even covered by a lifetime warranty including WEAR-TEAR so if they blow or go out, you can have the deal replace them. and get the TRD sway while your at it. rumor has it that lowering your car will increase body roll where did you read that the TRD springs and shocks are covered by lifetime warranty? i don't think the springs are covered by lifetime warranty. i'm not sure about the shocks though they might be but it's gotta be limited warranty and only if installed in a toyota dealership. CreativeCompacts 01-25-2005, 01:52 PM Fish: I run the creativecompacts.com site and I just wanna advise you, we are a very reliable site (We sponsor clubsciontc forums) but at this time S-techs are backordered till 2nd week or so in February Thanks James BiRdMaN209 01-25-2005, 04:08 PM so if i use the s-tech's on TRD shocks will that be fine or they wont work right? when will there be a setup that i can use with the s-tech's so that everything will work right together? i dont wanna buy just the springs and have to worry about my shock F***ing up later on.... someone plz clear this up, because im getting my springs pretty soon... at least when i clear this shocks, springs problem.... Fish 01-26-2005, 02:10 AM ^^^^yea thats all I'm waiting on too. Dont wanna order just the springs only to find out i need shocks/struts before i can install them. Fish 01-26-2005, 02:12 AM and thanks for the info james. Your price is the best ive seen so far. That whole ckeckout is 95% working thing just kinda made me question the reliability. Fish 01-27-2005, 02:07 AM dang guys everytime i ask if the TRD shocks will work no one responds...........come on i really need to know. pleeeeaase lol CreativeCompacts 01-27-2005, 02:33 PM S-tech springs will work on any shock out there.. It is just a question of how long. No one on these forums will know that answer. If I had to guess I would say 30,000 miles. The only way to prevent strut failure is to go with an adjustable strut or a strut that is intended for more than a 2in drop. At this time there is none available but you can be assured within a few more months there will be options. nero_tC 01-27-2005, 04:52 PM does anyone know for sure if the TRD shocks are covered by lifetime warranty? if so, they have to be the best option out there for shocks. only thing is i think you have to have them installed at a toyota dealership and i know installation is expensive. CreativeCompacts 01-27-2005, 04:58 PM I am also pretty sure TRD Shocks are not covered if you use any springs besides TRD or Stock hahaitzskippy 01-28-2005, 12:59 AM yes the TRD springs and shocks are covered by a lifetime warranty, you can email them yourself. its covered by ware and tare under normal use. that means you can be goin off roading blah blah and have then replace it if it blows. you cant have any other coil on the shocks except for the TRD for the warranty to be valid. yes the TRD shocks will work with the TEIN S.TECH's because the TEIN's are the same as the stock springs but only stiffer and shorter. but the placement on the shock itself doesnt change. all company's that make shocks/struts back there product with a lifetime warranty of not blowing out if used properly. if you guy want to say im stupid go read TEIN's policy, BILSTEIN, TOKICO, KONI, and any other manfacturers Fish 01-28-2005, 01:29 AM So then it would be better to just go ahead and run the s techs on stock springs until the shocks made for a 2 inch drop come out. ok thanks guys. good info CreativeCompacts 01-28-2005, 01:39 AM Yea Fish... I have no idea what that dude skippy posted but he contradicted himself over and over... It was quite funny to read if that matters at all... Fish 01-28-2005, 01:46 AM Are the springs still on backorder on your site? And i know i could probably just find it on your site but how much would shipping be on a set of those? nero_tC 01-28-2005, 04:09 PM yes the TRD springs and shocks are covered by a lifetime warranty, you can email them yourself. its covered by ware and tare under normal use. that means you can be goin off roading blah blah and have then replace it if it blows. you cant have any other coil on the shocks except for the TRD for the warranty to be valid. yes the TRD shocks will work with the TEIN S.TECH's because the TEIN's are the same as the stock springs but only stiffer and shorter. but the placement on the shock itself doesnt change. all company's that make shocks/struts back there product with a lifetime warranty of not blowing out if used properly. if you guy want to say im stupid go read TEIN's policy, BILSTEIN, TOKICO, KONI, and any other manfacturers I emailed TRD and never got a response back. But I did visit their site and under the warranty section I didn't see anything about lifetime warranty on the springs. For the springs they have a 1 year warranty, regardless of mileage, from the date of installation on the vehicle or the remainder of the vehicle's warranty, whichever provides greater coverage. The TRD Level 1 Sport Parts warranty covers not only the defective dealer-installed TRD Sport Part, but also any Toyota-warranted parts that is damaged by the defective dealer-installed TRD part. As for the shocks, TRD offers a limited lifetime warranty feature on dealer-installed shocks and struts that becomes effective from the date the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty expires and extends for as long as the original purchasing customer owns the vehicle. The limited lifetime extension covers parts replacement only (no labor) and requires the submission of a copy of the dealer repair order as original purchase verification. And for the other companies I haven't really researched their policies/warranties but I think they only warrant their products. Not damage done to your car by their product unlike TRD which does if the product was installed at a toyota dealership. But then of course there's the Moss-Magnussen Act. In which in short, the dealer has to prove the damage was done by the actual product. :eyebrow: HawkINX4 01-30-2005, 07:58 AM i have s-techs on my tc.. i need to uninstall em and reinstall em.. i will do that when i get new shocks... im running on stocks.. i want to wait for kyb to bring out theirs.. i want some agx.. i had a good experience with them UCSDPinoy 01-30-2005, 08:26 AM i have s-techs on my tc.. i need to uninstall em and reinstall em.. i will do that when i get new shocks... im running on stocks.. i want to wait for kyb to bring out theirs.. i want some agx.. i had a good experience with them how is the ride with stock springs? :nails: edit: ooops i mean stock Shocks :P HawkINX4 01-31-2005, 01:15 AM i dont have the stock springs.. the stock shocks i do have.. its actually a really nice ride.. when you hit a bump though it scares me.. but its cool im waiting for new shocks |
