alot of cars have a high idle upon startup to warm the engine , that and certain things that control the engine via vaccumm are controlled by means of heat.

If its reving up and down ussualy means vacum leak... check your hoses if you have a intake check the hose that connects to it first...

If it's an automatic, it locks out O/D until it is warm. perhaps that is what you're feeling?

does it rev fast or slow? if it revs fast, fill up your blinker fluid. If it revs slow, add more nitrous to your tires. If neither of those work, call Scion and tell them what you did. they'll fix it for you. Guaranteed!

My xB idles between 375-450 when its warmed up. At least that's what the digi tach says. It sounds way too low to me. But its tapped off of the ECU.

maybe your needles are off brad. it should be around the 600 area

That's what the digital tach displays. I know its gotta be off.

I have had my xB in several times for this. Basically they agree it is not suppossed to do this but they say there is no fix and they say that the engineers will not find a fix unless they get alot of complaints. So everyone needs to complain because all the standard trans xA & xB's do this. Do not let them tell you it is a normal condition because it is not. I have been an ASE certified mechanic for 14 years and I know this is not normal. Remember that they will not fix it unless there are alot of complaints.

i just saw this thread and wanted to say my car does it also. It doesnt fluctuate really rapidly but it does it sometimes.

Here's the deal guys. When cold, all cars rev higher.
Now scion's problem is it revs up and down.. Obviously when cold, it revs over 1000rpm and fluctuates between 800-1200. When warm, it fluctuates from 500-850 (for me). SUPPOSEDLY dealer told me that it fluctuates like that because of the aftermarket intake. I think its the biggest bull____, since i've had 8 cars so far with aftermarket intakes and never had rpm jump around. I think their iddle controller is f*ed up, but hey the dealer guys are always right.. NOT.

I'm going to try to clean my MAF with some of that special cleaner and see if that helps. It could just be the sensor itself is dirty because its sitting right in the intake tube with a more open element filter then oem. So we'l see how that goes.

Mine has 327 miles on it, and at about 200 i noticed the fluctuation. Its been puzzling me, I am a dealer tech for Acura and when an Acura/Honda does this its always the IAC valve. I figure it is an engineering problem, and no a Toyota tech won't wave a magic wand and fix it, but complaints do need to be placed so an ECU reflash or sensor signal upgrade can be figured, because at the end of the day it isn't normal. Mine also started pulling left and the suspension is leaning towards the drivers side, all of this will be mentioned at the first oil change.... Good Luck!

i would complain and take it down there, but unless they know for sure i dont want them messing my car up more. Second i dont want them to see my intake, exhaust, pully etc. and void some stuffs on my warrenty with their sneaky selves =(

well for one thing, when that little blue light on its pretty cold and i really wouldnt recomend revving the engine to much while its on cuz your gunna blow a head gasket cuz the gasket is cold and wont handle the pressure. anyway im glad mine doesnt fluctuate but i have an auto so whatever. my light pulley is kinda whinin tho maybe its my power steering belt. sry dont mean to thread jack lol

my front left tires always seem to lose air faster. i dont know if that would have anything to do with that problem ^

My idle goes up and down also. I noticed it started when the dealer did my A/C upgrade on my 05. For the most part it only does it when the A/C is on but still seems to do it other times also. I asked the dealer and of course they said normal. If it was a problem the check engine light would of come on. Ya right.
