I was at a car shop getting my sound system upgraded (you know, box, amp, etc) and this kid 16 or so couldn't believe it was for me. He was sure it was for my son's car!...I said , No, it's for MY Scion Xb!...He said No way!!...I said , why not?..But you're too old, man !. . I Said, well, when you get a real job, get hitched, have kids, and then after it's all over, you have time and money for you to do the things you were not able to do before, then you will see what this is all about! :P
BTW , I'm 54 and feeling 20 !!

I don't think 54 is old though i'm only 28. You just don't see too many older guys in the car audio shops. The home audio yes but not usually the car audio.

I'll still be pimping out my "tuner" cars when I'm 50! Why the hell would I just buy a Buick and drive slow? You gotta have fun, enjoy life! I respect the old guys in scions, they know what's up!

Actually, I was sitting in ScionSpecialistVegas's xB the other day groovin' to ZZ Top on his very clean sound system!

Bee Gees? Don't listen to that new stuff!

Actually us olde folks have many pimpin' options to try. Custom wheelchair lifts, on-board oxygen systems (like NOS, but for the driver!), golf club racks, etc. :)

ARRGH! White hair and Knuckles! I almost ran one over last week in the wife's pickup truck! This old lady couldn't see over the steering wheel and was looking thru the space between the top of the steering wheel and the dash! Then she started a converstation on a cell phone... and started to wander all over the road.

I HATE White Hair and Knuckes that flock to Tucson in the winter...

yeah my dad use to drive his 91 integra lowered with exausht and all that, people use to be like what the hell haha. more power to you. what stereo was it? i wish my wifes xb was mine, it has so much potential for a fatty system in there. and btw people still stare at my dad thinking it should be a kid driving his new car, a 1993 subaru svx haha

hmmm My father is 59 and we are talking about modding his 2005 Subaru 2.5GT Limited.... 0-60 in the mid 5 second range is not enough for him and we are going to upgrade the sound system a bit too...and I am 38 and I am planning to heavily mod my XB.... especially the soundsystem which we hit hard.... hell I have to teach my 4yr old.... So I guess you never grow out of it :P

Hrm. My friend's father bought a Cadillac CTS-V and took it into the shop the second day to have a short shifter, cold air intake, borla exhaust, and coilover suspension installed.

Screw import tuning. One day, I'm going to be rich and then I'm going to buy a Lamborghini Gallardo. The first mod I'm going to do is put on some vertical doors. Hehe.

Kids just don't get it... Give 'em 30-40 years and they'll MAYBE get a clue. hehehe

A favorite quote that was on someone's door in college:

Youth is wasted on the young, sports cars on the old.

It's a lot more fun to work on a car cuz you want to instead of working on it cuz you HAVE to. Plus being able to afford mods is nice too. ;)

Who gives flying pooop how old. It : does not matter. Hell if I am stuck in a wheel chair someday and 80 something I will find a way to put some kind of custom rims on it or I will put some kind of sound system on my walker :eyebrow:

Hey, I'm a 35 year old Chiropractor with 2 grade school kids, and since getting my xb last year, I dropped it, got rims, and just added a dvd w/ flip-down monitor. It's for the "kids" right?!?!?!?!

Never too old to have a passion for cars, espeically something like the Xb. It's kinda retro-futuristisc, econo cool................

When we purchase a sensible, fun and sweet vehicle like the xB.. not matter how young or old, you wanna pimp that shiznit.

After driving duct-taped cars, shattered headlights, screeching belts and sound systems.. (you know some of you've been there too).. new cars with shiny rims aren't just for newly-licensed drivers. A parent with kids driving a pimped out xB?! God forbid!

Rock on jaymo.

Can't wait for my R2 and the Rockford Fosgate system I'm slapping into it.

And the springs. And the wheels. And the performance mods.....

Train, Counting Crowes.... Skynyrd, Beatles, Collective Soul.... Just as long as it sounds clean and clear.

48 myself and I didn't bother to wait a yaer for the springs. Put a scinfx strut bar on at the same time I did the springs. I think I will get a DC strut bar soon because the scinfx just doesn't look well made(poor welds, bad paint. I might take it apart and reweld it and powder coat it. But I think it easyer to just get a DC strut bar for 89.00)

I'll be the middle aged bald guy that people roll their eyes at because he's still amused by the same stuff that he was amused by 20 years before. Driving around in a lowered ride with nice rims and blasting the Misfits or Bad Religion on a SQ sound system. My only hope is that rice and punk will have both quit being trendy by then. Both have been tained by the "hey-i-dont-know-what-i'm-doing-but-it's-supposed-to-be-cool" disease.

Do what pleases you regardless of age.

The younger someone is the less knowledge and perspective of the world they have. When I was 18, 30 seemed really old. Now that I'm 34, 80 seems really old but that's because it truly is in respect to the average lifespan.

I'm 50 and love my scion. Just haven't done much to it but drive. My real toy is a Honda Del Sol (b16) lowered 2 inches, 17 inch wheels, header, strut bars, and about 500 watts of eclipse powered audio. I get a lot of funny looks when driving around, cause my favorite music is rap. Really like 3/6 and Snoop. Sometimes my 15 and 18 year old daughters don't want to ride with me, cause they know dad is not right. I'm ordering a supercharger for the sol this spring. See old people still have fun..

Wow, Jaymo really got some conversation going with this topic! Since the whole thing has evolved along (too old to pimp my ride?) I'll add another note... my last favorite car was a 83' Jeep CJ5 that put a lot of work into...new paint, pretty rims, chrome hinges with the side mirrors etc. Sold it to a friend so I still get to visit the "mud gusher" Almost wish I'd kept her,but she was too squirrely in the rain.
