how much horse power could you get the xb up to?
well with the motor currently in it , the highest so far is 215whp , thats with a turbo , a stroker kit and many more mods , it was in the xa in import tuner feb of 05
it'd cost close to 10k , it'd be alot cheaper to toss a 1zz or 2zz in it. the 2zz starts out with 180 crank hp so thats like 165whp , so starts there then add intake , exhaust , header , and maybe a head job , yer talkin about 7k and more hp with better reliability.
Dude, not to sound mean, but if you want a fast vehicle, you got the wrong one. If you want a fast car, buy an older civic hatch, put an h22a motor in it with a giant turbo, you'd be pullin 12 second 1/4 miles easy.

The ferrari enzo covers the 1/4 mile in a little over 11 seconds, and cost over a million bucks. For about 10 grand, you can have a 12 second car... Id say its pretty fast. I've owned one, and yes, a tiny 2 door hatchback is a scary thing at those speeds.
I'm with hot box on hondas... my sis took the honda loving in the family. I've driven her civic (99 and 05) ... it just doesn't feel... right. Still gave them a look though, before i got my xB.
oh yes on topic:

the 1zzfe seems like a better choice... though if you just want sheer hp i guess the 2zzge is what you want. I'm not an engine person though, I only know what i read.
Has anyone done this engine swap yet or know anyone who has? I remember lots of talk about it.
Preview snippets (for the lazy "i don't want to read the whole link" ppl):
"The driving characteristic of both engines are dramatically evident. In the 2000 Celica, where both engines are offered- the GT with the 1ZZFE is easier and smoother to drive- more responsive. The GTS with the 2ZZGE starts of lazier, and need lots of pedal- but ultimately more HP. Which is a good contrast- drivers now know the trade-off between drivability and horsepower. A lot of people who tested the cars opted for the more responsive GT model, although they were initially looking for power."
"The 2ZZGE has problems. Bent valves from missed shifts have been common. Sticking valve mechanism also cause unscheduled visits to the Toyota Dealers.
Toyota is addressing these problems currently."
