I let my car sit for about half a year because I fell ill to the point where I was bed ridden 90% of the time. Well, I'm real particular about who washes my car as I prefer to hand wash it myself despite being a paraplegic but hey, that's my baby! Anyway, I went to wash it after the 6 months and my brand new rims had go oxidation on various spots. I tried many things and you can forget asking people who sell products in auto parts stores because they're clueless about the very stuff in which they sell and 3 of them didn't even know what was wrong after looking at my rims. So I did a little googling and ran across this page that was a God send. *One thing though, if other parts of your rims aren't aluminum only and are clear coated as well be sure not to get the paint remover on those areas as it will take your clear coat and painted finish off as well! I highly recommend that you use a toothbrush instead of a rag (step 2) if your rim is like my cross hairs and don't come apart and have a painted surface. It's best to do one of 2 things: Keep a water hose near by in case some if the clear coat that falls of and get's on the painted surface or better yet do one half (bottom 1st) then move the car a half wheel turn and do what was originally at the top on the bottom now!

careful your Crosshairs are clear coated and just need claybar and polish then some wax and they will be good as new.

yeah you're right a lot of those autopart places like autozone really don't know much. It's sad.

so this oxidation was under the clearcoat? were these stock wheels or aftermarket?
