View Full Version : SCION XB REAR BUMPER APPLIQUE??? What do you think?

Don't laugh. The only 'upgrade' or 'mod' I have are the mats. I'm a father. I wish I was ten years older and had the money, and was single -- then I'd pimp my ride straight to hell.

But I'm happy for now.

EXCEPT, I'm thinking I would like the bumper applique. I usually don't like appliques b/c they look cheap, don't last, etc. Anyone have this? Does it last? Does it look like quality? Easy on and off?

Thanks much. Help me into this mod world. Who knows, I may move on to bigger and better things.

I like it too, depends on what color you have but it seems to stand out on my silver xb and on the white xbs ive seen. It looks nice though gives a little more contrast to the bumper area.

I was actually thinking about getting one...

I don't think they look too bad, and they protect the bumper...

The top of the bumper looks like it could get scratched easily... might as well get one, they are pretty cheap on eGay...

Pimpin knows no age restraints. I'm married with children... Not that I'm pimpin but you get my drift...

I don't like it. It has so far been unneeded, gets wax in it real easy and out - not so easy... It's quality, if it didn't seem to be on so good, I'd peel it off probably. It's just low grit griptape with holes in it...

as an option I just put a cargo liner in my Xb that part of it flips out tp protect the bumper

^^^^

I would've preferred that... Wish i had found ScionLife before I bought...

I like it, but mostly for the look. Can't say it does much. And, I find air bubbles from time to time, which push out easy enough...

It's something to have.

doesnt that grip tape cost $70?

I've got it, it looks fine and serves its purpose well.

However, it is absolutely correct that it is nothing more than an overpriced piece of grip tape. An industrious individual could probably make a close approximation (minus the circle patterns) using $7 worth of grip tape from Home Depot and a straight razor.

I just included it in my short list of accessories when I bought the car as I didn't want to scuff the rear bumper loading and unloading things a week after I had the car. Turned out to be the right choice for me.

i think it looks ugly and it is a royal pain once u accidently get wax on , just be careful about that , and it probably saves a few scratches but who knows , most of my scratches and nicks are on the edge of the bumper. the roll u know what i mean? nm but yeah i only have like 1 or 2 small scratches on the top of the bumper where the applque goes. to each their own

I've got it too and I like it. Yeah it's 3M grip tape, couldn't used on my skate board! But I think it looks good!

After I saw what it was, I passed. The bumper is so low, I can't imaging anything you'd have to rest on the bumper before putting it in the car.

Does anyone own the bB Chrome Step guard? It's another alternative to the rear bumper applique and seems to protect it more. I was thinking about getting it but wanted some feedback.

The cargo liner is about the same price, and doesnt hold wax in those little holes when your done. The liner just flips out, is water proof, and covers the backs of the rear seats when folded down. Well worth the $75 i paid for it.

i'm 46 and i'm telling you the rear applique is ok. i mean dull. it's not really there as a mod but mostly an option. the bb chrome step guard is a cool mod, cheap, VISUAL. dont't waste your $$$$ on suck egg mods.

But if I bought that chrome cover, I'd be MORE afraid of scuffing it...

I ahve this on my Camo box and it seems to be OK, I like the looks of it, but have not tried waxing yet so I'm not sure how that will work out. It does seem to hold the salt from the road really well, lol

I have the JDM chrome step guard and IMO I think it def. looks better and prob would serve its purpose more then the USDM bumper sticker. I say go for quality.

Thanks for the thoughts. BTW, the correction to my original post should be if I were 10 years YOUNGER, of course, I'd love to mod my car. That said, I do believe you are never too old to mod, but in my case, I have too many responsibilities (financial and otherwise) to afford it.

With that said, I love the chrome and might look into that.

If you want the protection without the holes (whoa, did I just say something sexual?), an idea for some might be to buy that 3M grip tape and then cut out your own design to make your box even more individual. Think I am going to try that route.

TheScionicMan

Or even get a vinyl shop to cut something.

The chrome one looks very nice.

It depends on what you priorities are, I just wanted to protect the bumper and have a little spot to rest something on.

It's pretty easy just to NOT wax that little area. It's not as it you will ever notice the top of the bumper isn't waxed.

I'd say if you think you need something like this and you aren't worried about spending a little frivolously, go for that chrome one, it looks sweet.

If you are just looking to mod your car lightly and get something for your money, then, I would suggest something that is actually useful.

Perhaps a cold air intake or a thicker rear anti-sway bar.

I got the bumper applique with my $50 gift card from Scion, and so far i like it. It helps to proptect the top of the bumper and I think it looks nice too. I have dogs and everytime they get out of the back of the car they always step on the top of the bumper, so it gives me peace of mind to know there is something between the paint and their dirty ___ paws.

Well I was having a mod done to the back, and guess what, The guy working on my car did 4 SKUFFS on top of that little bumper! I really do like the Chrome bB Bumper, but the only thing that bothers me is the LACK of Anything Chrome on the body of the car. I think you would definetely need to change to the JDM bB emblem, as it is more silvery, like the JDM bumper.
I really wonder what would have happened had I had the JDM bumper when that guy dropped or drug something across my bumper. Since I had NO sticker or JDM Bumper ,I was able to WAX the bumper and it came out really nice. By the way , I Highly recommend Meguires ScratchX. I was Amazed how good it came out.
Lastly, Im really glad for this Post, cause I wanted to see what others had done so far. I REALLY HATE that Rough Sticker with Holes. I completely see why the holes are a problem.
I want to know why OTHER cars get a Nice RUBBER step. They are Thick Rubber too.
And does anyone know, is there possibly another model`s car that has a REAL step guard, that would work on the xB`s step and look like it was made for that spot?

You didn't, no you DIDN'T just say that, did you? I give the shivers just thinking of dogs roaming around my car.

With that said, if it makes YOU happy, all the power to you.

Any idea where to get these elusive chrome bumper guards/decorations?

Forget the chrome, I got some of that 3M stuff and cut out a clear cover the size of the factory one and after it is applied you can't really see it but the top of the bumper is protected!!!!

I just installed the scion bumper cover and i like it on my tcm, i shows up real good, chrome one looks good but i personally try to stay as far away from anything chrome as i can , but thats just me. I'm in the same boat as you as far as mods go, moon hub caps, bumper cover and windshield decal that says BOXCAR thats about it for now.

You can also purchase the JDM bB chrome bumper guard at newscionparts.com it is only $129 instead of scionsport.com, which lists it at $139. Although the shipping may be different.

newscionparts.com also has chrome mirror covers. Link below. I'm thinking about getting these...I don't want to over-chrome my car though.

Flitz metal polish it is the best on the market and the best that money can buy, best part?? It's cheap the few bucks spent and the first time you use it I know you will praise me for letting you all in on this product. The other things it can be used for, is a plastic polish as well. when your headlights start to haze. If you use it as a pre-emtive strike the haze should never appier.
