My TRD rear sway bar broke at the seam? Now what?
Is this covered under warranty if I bought it used from another member? WTH? It's TRD?! Doesn't TRD and Ivan Stewart have like a gabillion racing trophies and the TRD sway bar breaks on a family driven XB???
WOW!!
this is the second rear sway by TRD that i've heard of breaking now.. this scares me because i was planning on picking this up in the future but now i'm second guessing it's build quailty. any pics??
They must be made by hotchkiss. They were using seamed tubing and they were splitting at the seam. Had the same thing happen with a Matrix bar. THey sent a replacement. That is what happens when you dont use the more expensive seamless tubing.
yes, you need a receipt of sales receipt for the trd sway bar. for it to be warrantied. otherwise they have no idea when that sway bar was sold, installed, or what. for all they know, you knicked that rear sway bar off a wrecked xb, and now want toyota to replace it for free. they don't know, and chances are they won't take you at your word.
if you had bought the sway bar new, it would be covered under a 1 year, 12k mile parts warranty that trd parts come with, and if it was installed by the dealership, it would join the 3 year/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty.
these are the advantages you forfeited by buying a used sway bar versus buying it used.

Wow, it actually sounds like you believe the dealerships BS. You are right on one thing tho, they probably will not cover it under warranty. I just cannot believe a TRD sway bar broke from normal everyday driving. I understand they redesigned the bar, but again, this is TRD we are talking about and not Tanabe.
anytime you get a defective product that needs to be replaced or repaired, you need a receipt. doesn't matter if it is a TRD sway bar for a toyota vehicle. they need to know that it was purchased new from a licensed seller. you bought it second hand so for all they know it was already damaged or damaged durring shipping and handling between you and the seller.
and remember, the dealership has to follow guidelines laid down by toyota when it comes to making warranty claims, and part of those guidelines probably require an original purchase receipt.
dude, it isn't BS, it is a simple matter of fact. say you bought a laptop from somebody who originally bought it from best buy, and it breaks, and you go to wal-mart to get it replaced, why should they just go "sure, here you go, brand new one, sorry for the inconvenience!"

BTW, some warranties are actually transferable on certain products from electronics to cars...
yeah, and i can understand what you mean about TRD meaning quality, that is why many of the parts on my tc are TRD products, but you are complaining about a sway bar that they discontinued and redesigned and re-released, so they made it right for the new buyers, and i suppose anybody who has the old design who rolls in and has a receipt, will get a new one redesigned one.
as for stuff being transferable, yeah, but a paypal receipt from the person you bought it from or whatever isn't going to do. if you had their receipt, sure, transferable i would guess. but again, like any good business, you need documentation, documentation, documentation.
