View Full Version : What was your biggest waste mod?
dougcbx 01-27-2005, 05:38 AM We would all like to know what was your biggest waste of money or time in modding
your xB? I know it's embarrassing admitting you spent good money on something
that looked good, but you will be helping us all out in letting us know. I only have about 500 miles on my box, and all I've done is put a Boomerang armrest in and a wide-angle rear view mirror in. The Boomerang is a good product, but I'm 6'2" and my elbows are too high or the Boomerang is too low for it to be useful as an armrest. The wide angle mirror (for $7.99 from Walmart) was a pleasant surprize. It clips onto your mirror and gives a view from the front of the rear side windows across the back. You can even see yourself grinning alot!
J_A_Trevino 01-27-2005, 05:44 AM so far my biggest waste was on some tail light overlays that just didnt seem to want to stick or stay in one piece for me. thats the only waste that i have had with my xb.
Buebie 01-27-2005, 05:52 AM My rims. I found a set a couple months later for several hundred cheaper, and they looked better w/ a polished lip :(
My advise to anyone buying rims on a strict budget...go to ebay and type in "ADR 4x100".
None so far~ I'm VERY picky with the mods I do to this car,
Made many mistakes on my last car, biggest one was a cold air intake made our of cheap aluminum piping and a cone filter for 150. This was when the hype for CAI's was at it's peak and everyone wanted one, but can't pay the crazy prices at dealers.
I don't plan to cut corners with this one :P
SilyOtter 01-27-2005, 06:22 AM .. i would have to admit that the biggest wast of $$$$ mod was my AEM cold air intake. this isnt the dealer option one but it comes right off teh throttle boddy and a bend with a cone filter.. i know the dyno doesnt lie. but i didnt feel any gain. only thing thats cool is that it makes a cool sound at idle but not worth the cash
TJandBOXCARWILLIE 01-27-2005, 06:48 AM It's not really a waste, but it is...the lights in the cup holders. I mean, it's about the most un-needed mod ever, but you know, you like it when it changes colors...So, in a way, a waste, but not really.
Man. Posting tired.

smart person me either...biggest waste of SPACE MOD would be TOO MANY STICKERS!!!
also i heard that the Injen polished cover starts to pit after a few short months, just an FYI , i saw it in another box , and the owner advised me that he would be repolishing it (i dunno...lol)
also DEALER installed lights are highway robbery, i bought cathodes for a PC case (someone did a write up here) and installed em, the entire thing 2 dar aired was 39 dollars for 4 tubes, AND the react to sounds as well...
DJ_X_Trodinaire 01-27-2005, 01:02 PM under car LED
i havent put them on! what a waste of a free Kit :P
THE_DON 01-27-2005, 03:09 PM Well I started off cheap, only to upgrade later, so....
Chrome tip - $30
(replaced by full exhaust)
Poor man's intake - $40
(replaced by injen short ram)
I also bought a couple of red "powered by toyota" shoulder pads - $10
(now in the trash, didn't match the custom leather)
A TRD badge on the back - $25
(now the rear is shaved)
Countless "blue" headlights - $50 +
(now I have Silverstars)
So I guess you should take your time and select your mods carefully. And don't try to be cheap... Do it right the first time...

ProjectFusion 01-27-2005, 03:20 PM So far my biggest waste has been my carbon creations CF hood that I'm not going to use. I've just been lo lazy to post it up in the classifieds.
Edit- This has sense been sold. Sorry I completely forgot about this thread.

Can't help it.... I'm an "impulse" shopper! :D
I have no real regrets though. Some of my friends
have gone through 3 or 4 different body kits, and
custom paint jobs. Or even buy a different car every
year just to have the newest thing out. Now that's
a WASTE!

superjeer 01-27-2005, 03:44 PM modding is a journey, not a destination. The process is more important than the product.
I have a garage full of grills, hyperwhite headlights, half made armrests, clutches, tail lights, LED's and cathode tubes...
But, the only thing I regret is selling my stock HU. The sony I replaced it with is half the man the stock used to be.
squirrel 01-27-2005, 03:52 PM I don't know, I have a garage full of parts for a number of vehicles! Some have been installed, some haven't.
THE_DON 01-27-2005, 04:23 PM Oh yeah... And I have like 3 ebay mufflers laying around.
I didn't have the guts to ever weld one on, and kept
changing my mind on the style I wanted... Good thing
they were cheap!
I need to have a yard sale! :silly:

PaganGuy 01-27-2005, 05:12 PM I got the dealers year old demo box so i got some mods i didn't want to begine with, but the biggest waste i think so far is the lighted cupholders. Second would be the Bazzoka Subwoofer.
pdrizzle 01-27-2005, 05:43 PM Hella Horn... I bought a set because I wanted a more manly horn. Turns out they sound just as wimpy if not more. Come to find out there really isn't much we can do unless we install a compressor. I'm thinking about installing the stock horns along with the Hella to see if I can at least make the horn louder with more tones.

I can't wait to get a my air horns. Good ole 150 db's. I hope to scare some of these old farts here in naples to quit pullin out in front of me
uncompiled 01-27-2005, 06:40 PM Hrm, mods are never a waste if you enjoy them.
You could say that no one needs to spend thousands of dollars on stereo equipment when you've got a perfectly good one factory-installed, but when you're stuck in traffic with nothing to do and nowhere to go, nothing puts a smile on your face like turning up your badass stereo system.
The biggest waste mod? Personally, it was those TRD shoulder pads I bought off someone here. They were probably my cheapest mod, but they're not something that you notice, or enjoy.
WagenMaster 01-27-2005, 06:45 PM .. i would have to admit that the biggest wast of $$$$ mod was my AEM cold air intake. this isnt the dealer option one but it comes right off the throttle boddy and a bend with a cone filter.. i know the dyno doesnt lie. but i didnt feel any gain. only thing thats cool is that it makes a cool sound at idle but not worth the cash
Really? I love my AEM short cai. It's MUCH better than the crappy one that the dealers offer, and even better than some others IMO. I notice more torque in 2nd and 3rd gears. Do you have an AT or MT?
My biggest waste would probably be some stickers I bought to cover up the warning stickers on the visors. I got those ones off of Ebay that have the "This Scion is equipped with a vvt-i engine and females shouldn't wear restrictive clothing, i.e. bras, while in use". The sticker turned out to be smaller than quoted, and didn't adhere very well. So I removed the warning sticker using Goof-Off and then put the sticker on, and it just never looked good.
I've ended up putting in a lcd monitor in the visor and having it re-covered to match my headliner.
:eyebrow:
TheScionicMan 01-27-2005, 06:57 PM I wasted a lot on various LEDs mostly, some will eventually get used, some were destined for the trash from the start...
The horn is high on my list of wants. I get irritated with the horn when I have to use it. I want something that will make people's heads snap to attention...
THE_DON 01-27-2005, 07:08 PM I bought a $30 air freshener once. It only lasted a week. What a waste!

katchkillah 01-27-2005, 08:10 PM when i got my box. this was the first one i modded trying to order via ebay, i usually order from a local shop here. anyway now i know what "overlay" is. it was only $10 sticker. but that is about it. i'm very picky of what i do.

Are you kidding? My Varad ULX leds are my best mods!!! Install them!!
pdrizzle 01-27-2005, 08:38 PM I bought the cargo cover for like $35 bucks from Cali and I am pleased with it. It serves its purpose (to hide what's in my hatch area - mainly my sub). I think people complain about the price of it more than anything. The only other thing I can think of is that people don't like that it's very flimsy, like a tarp almost. I guess it would be better if it were a hard top, but then you couldn't store it easily. I recommend it.

I agree. It covers your cargo, so it does its job. If it were hard, it would muffle the rear speakers. I don't mind the cover, I just don't like how it sags. I think it could have been engineered better, like how it's mounted...
TheScionicMan 01-27-2005, 09:15 PM Yeah, I just didn't think of the few dealer adds that i got as "mods". The cargo cover does what its supposed to, just poorly...
hotbox05 01-27-2005, 09:43 PM my biggest wastes have been , cf overlays , cheap crap , well that and every mod i've gotten so far. wastes of money , i shouldda just got air bags off the bat. oh well. later this year i guess
FrankenScion 01-27-2005, 10:00 PM I actually like my rear cargo cover. Its cool when you need to take the dogs to the vet or transport some stuff.
RacerxB 01-30-2005, 03:50 PM Yeah, I just didn't think of the few dealer adds that i got as "mods". The cargo cover does what its supposed to, just poorly...
I agree it does it job, I was hoping for a more rigid look. Nice thing is easily removed when not needed. I do like the cargo liner. I often have to transfer tires in the back and this item will save the back.
RacerxB 01-30-2005, 03:52 PM I actually like my rear cargo cover. Its cool when you need to take the dogs to the vet or transport some stuff.
I think you mean cargo liner not cover. the cover is the little shelf type vinyl that hides stuff from view. the liner protects the back attached over the rear seats

You are correct.
fachiro1 01-30-2005, 04:34 PM Nothing big, but I needed to buy an inteerior light, the kind you plug into the cig. lighter because the overhead video monitor lights get covered by the monitor when it is flipped down. Can't see worth a damn at night. So I buy this $10.00 light thing and it totally sucks. The light output is about the same as the darkness. POS!
LaVa~NyC 03-28-2005, 02:01 AM my underbody lighting was a stupid idea....especially in the snow ..that was a waste of few hundres

B2FiNiTY 03-28-2005, 06:27 PM I'd have to say my greddy evo 2 has been the biggest waste so far.
It's a great piece but just not worth it for box. Barely even louder with obviously no power gains since it's only an axle back.
SuperCrunchyAction 03-28-2005, 07:19 PM modding is a journey, not a destination. The process is more important than the product.

The stock headunit belongs in the trash... what sony did you install? Try a higher end Alpine or Eclipse and you'll most likely be better off.
None.
I bought a TRD short shift and I love that.
I got an AEM CAI for free.
I just don't get a strange compulsion to buy blinkie lights and carbon fiber bits and blue headlights like some people do. I guess I'm greatful for that! LOL
777-xB2-0 03-28-2005, 07:45 PM I purchased the rear shims from onetonegarage.com. Great product, great sales team.
However, installing it on our xB demonstrated potential mechanical risk so we did NOT install the product.
For its intended purpose, the product works well for the average enthusiast, but for the use we intend for our RS2.0, its a different story.
MattyRattyPoo 03-28-2005, 08:54 PM I would have to say the biggest waste is my purple headlinghts. I piad for bucks for them and used them for about 2 1/2 months and then I went for HID's. Man are HID's so worth the money. I couldn't see very well with the purple headlights but I though they looked cool.
xBino 03-28-2005, 09:08 PM My biggest waste mod was the bumper aplique. Put it up next to my bumper, and was like "bleah!"
Got the JDM chrome one instead. At least I made $0.75 from it by reselling on eBay!
KevinxB 03-29-2005, 12:33 AM Wheel center caps that didn't fit
Max2k 03-29-2005, 12:51 AM LED bag hooks and cupholders.. So ridiculous.
crab_nasty 03-29-2005, 12:54 AM Ok well i don't like to say waste of mod but... I got some 150$ fog lights(not the xb fog lights) with remote turn on and then i put a body kit on that they don't look right on.
Another waste is a tv that i put in then replaced a month later with a larger one.
fachiro1 03-29-2005, 01:16 AM Man, they're not mods, but two things I wasted money on for the box:
1. lighter powered interior light. The lights on my overhead monitor did nothing to illuminate the front passenger section, so I spent 10 bucks for this light with the gooseneck..................................not bright at all, can't even read a map with it.
2. visor clip on air freshener. All it did was provide a disgusting chemical (supposedly strawberry) odor to the entire car. Gross
Boom12V 03-29-2005, 01:43 AM Stupid waste of money shift knobs. I have like four of them and they are sooo shiny I can't help myself I just keep buying them. :silly:
eumylove 11-16-2005, 10:56 PM I bought a pack of push on push off lights at home depot. I bought because the intereior needed more lights. The lights I bought were to dim and not bright enough. I cant even return it becasue one of the pieces broke. That is waste of i believe it was around ten dollars. Pack of 4. Had to buy the batteries seperatly too.
ScionSpouse 11-17-2005, 12:28 AM I'll concur with the cargo cover. We got it as part of the package with the net and bumper protector. cargo net is good, but cover is awful
superfreestyle 11-17-2005, 12:52 AM I like the mod but i paid 49 dollars and something for nissan factory bumper light plugs for a 97 altima from nissan and then another 27 dollars for the clear altima bumper lights off of ebay and 4 dollars and 44 cents plus tax for the hyper white 194 light bulbs, all just to have clear rear bumper lights, thats a grand total of over 80 bucks just for clear bumper lights... great mod though... helps appearance... but biggest waste of money
Sciond 11-17-2005, 03:25 AM Denso Irridium plugs....only benefit.....it will be a looooong time before I change them again
mikee1680 11-17-2005, 04:46 AM My esams sun visor. Had it for two days and noticed how easily they get scratched. $250? Ouch!!
Guamsilverbox671 11-17-2005, 05:31 AM Ventshades. :eyebrow: I bought it for $75 bucks (Think it was a ripoff). :tap: I followed the instructions and even used the alcohol pads to clean the wearther strip before applying the ventshades on. Well, 3 months later, the front passenger ventshade started to come off. I heated up the glue, and put it back on. It lasted for a while but dang it fell off again while I was drivin and the car behind me ran over it. That one piece never fit right in the first place. It look so retarted with one vent missing so i rip off the other three. :x
tvc15_2000 11-17-2005, 09:17 AM Cargo Liner good.
Cargo Cover OK
Cargo net useless.
SpdLmtNA 11-17-2005, 02:46 PM I read a couple about bad air freshners... what i do is buy a 20 pack of those fabric freshener/softeners napkin-looking things and use one a month... I dont like the smell to be overwhelming, so I just put it in the trunk, and since all our cars' trunks are linked to the interior, it works awesome, costs 2-3 bucks at the store, and you get a pack of 20... one box will last over a year!
biblicone 11-17-2005, 03:42 PM Cargo Liner good.
Cargo Cover OK
Cargo net useless.
I agree with the cargo net being useless... but isnt the 'cargo net' mainly only for holding your stock wheel when you get a flat and put on your mini spare tire? I thought I read some instructions that came with the net. Either way, it is still useless.

The net for holding a full size wheel is a different thing. There is an elastic cargo net that stretches from side to side in the back, and is moderately useful for holding items and keep them from moving around. It's sort of like a wide, shallow, elastic string bag.
For us, the net is good, the cover is just OK. A really good one would be a window shade style.
biblicone 11-17-2005, 04:43 PM I see. I did not know there was a separate cargo net. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.
WADE ventvisors. They don't flow and started deforming the window gasket.
L4rry_B1rd 11-17-2005, 05:32 PM I think this is considered a mod. Paid $70 for amp install and $90 for 8awg wire. Not only did I over pay for the wiring, Im putting in another amp and now have to rewire with 4awg.
cierrecart 11-17-2005, 05:36 PM WADE ventvisors. They don't flow and started deforming the window gasket.
How are wind deflectors supposed to "flow" ? They are designed to force the fast moving air around the window opening instead of into it. The cabin is 50% quieter with the windows down with the visors on.
As for deforming the seals: did you expect something that fits into a space that is already taken up completely by the glass to not expand to accept the added thickness?
Not flaming, just trying to understand your reasoning.

You're right, they are not supposed to flow, but I didn't realize how bad they looked until I got them on. They definitely detracted from the clean look I have going on. Also, prior to installing mine, I had never seen visors on an xB in person. Going off what I read, it seemed they would fit in there just fine - which they didn't.
If you have them and like them, that's great, just not my style and not something I made use of. They may not be a waste of money to other people, but they were to me and have been thrown away.
hammy 11-17-2005, 05:50 PM just got my wade visors in the mail yesterday. im going to put them on tonite...anyone have any suggestions for installing them outside of the printed instructions that come with?
thanks in advance.
spongebBox 11-17-2005, 05:51 PM i got the Auto Vent Shades (in channel vent visors) from a dealership..used my $50 gift card on em so i paid $30 out of pocket. i was excited bout gettin em and called around numerous local dealerships to try n get em. when i was installing them, i found out they didnt fit! they were longer than the window channel and wouldnt fit straight. i couldnt keep them in the channels and couldnt get the window all the way up either. they looked terrible because of its awful fitment and i had to break them and throw them away the same day!!! to me i try n make value of every dollar i spend, i'm sorta frugal...and it pis$ed me off to know $80 went down the drain.
yesterday i jus got esams visors...and dang well worth my money!!!

Oh, okay.....I thought you meant flow as in "air flow" lol. I can understand if you don't care for how they look. I personally like the way they look on the xb, but they definitely aren't for everybody. I do think they look a hell of a lot more streamlined than the esams though. :)
Here are mine....with the roof rack I think they go pretty well:

I'm trying to find out if a set of 80's Supra horns share the same clips. I really like the way they sound, and if they clipped in, that would rock. My friend has an 87 Supra he is selling, and said I could pilfer the horns off of it as long as my stock ones fit.

tvc15_2000 12-29-2005, 01:54 AM Ventshades. Half a waste.
Picked up Weathertech and they were way too long in the front. Sent back the fronts. Ordered Wade fronts and they fit perfect, But Wade rear did not fit well.
The Wade rears were too thick and the window clunked when it was going up and hit the in channel vent shade.
I reordered the Weathertech rears (much thinner) and they did not clunk. Now I can leave the windows open a bit in rainy/snowy weather without getting the interior wet.

I'm thinking about installing the stock horns along with the Hella to see if I can at least make the horn louder with more tones.
I can't wait to get a my air horns. Good ole 150 db's. I hope to scare some of these old farts here in naples to quit pullin out in front of meI put Fiamm air horns on my xB and they REALLY help. I kinda munged up the relay area so I can't get the stock horns working again with the air horns, but I'm going to as soon as I figure out if the stockers are tied to ground or +12 volts. That is, does the horn relay switch to +12 volts or does it switch to ground? Any pointers?
kumulove 03-03-2006, 02:57 AM But, the only thing I regret is selling my stock HU. The sony I replaced it with is half the man the stock used to be.
What is an HU?
kumulove 03-03-2006, 03:01 AM Ventshades.
Was this with an xb? I was thinking of getting the WeatherTech vents that say they are specific to the xb... You think this is a bad idea?

Mine had the same problem.
They are in a landfill now.
FLINT 03-03-2006, 04:13 AM i got a topic like this. its called mod-busters. its for all scions.
vintage42 03-03-2006, 04:44 PM My biggest waste mod was the bumper aplique. Put it up next to my bumper, and was like "bleah!" Got the JDM chrome one instead...
There is a $100 difference in the online prices of the applique vs the chrome. Is the chrome also some kind of thick applique, or is it rigid steel?
tyrantcold 03-03-2006, 05:00 PM so far the only reall waste of money i think was the 2tone seat covers, so badly made but theyre gonna givd me a refund. Maybe the oil catch can but for 15.00 off ebay you cant complain too much and yeah it does catch some oil.

erlibird 03-16-2006, 02:48 AM  a cheesy looking gas door cover, looked better on eBay that it does on the XB. Then the shipping charge was 12.00 and it was shipped in an envelope 1st class for 84 cents. Cheesy and ripped off

isn't that funny?
a buddy of mine has the rear cargo cover, but it doesn't seem like a 'cargo cover'. it's more like a 'hamster hammock'.
Prototype_xB 03-16-2006, 03:55 PM Hmmm, luckily, i haven't really in my opinion wasted any money, but if i did have to think about it, i would say the TRD (Waydo Sportivo) struts and shocks ($295) cuz they're about like the clutch--> will only last about 30k miles.
Prototype_xB 03-16-2006, 03:58 PM buying the car.

OldYeller 03-16-2006, 05:02 PM Does Yellow fuzzy dice qualify as a Mod?
midtowndesi 03-16-2006, 05:48 PM I barely have anything done to my xB but I think the biggest waste "mod" would be the cargo cover... sure, it'll hide your stuff, but there are speakers back there and the cargo cover muffles the sound a little bit. This isn't a huge complaint but definitely something to consider...
Right now, i took the cargo cover off and put it in the storage compartment in the back of the box! lol!

phillycaster 03-25-2006, 11:52 PM The Boomerang armrest!
I liked it when I firts got it but 2 months later all of the screws are loose and the cheap plastic means you can't tighten them. I tried but all of the holes are now stripped. Looking for a replacement now!

Electrical is not one of my strong points, so could you be a little more specific about how easy the install is? Relays, amount of wires, etc?
THANKS!

I like how it “evolved.” Did you ever end up adding on another scion emblem like your first one?
Oh yeah, does anyone know if anyone ever ended up making one from fiberglass?
tonyg 06-15-2006, 12:01 PM I agree, I was so disappointed. Poorly made, bad fit. I am now fighting with my dealer to take it back, they seem to have a no refund/no credit policy!
I'm surprised I haven't seen any posts about the rear cargo cover. All the posts I have read about it state that it is a piece of garbage and not worth the money.
midtowndesi 06-15-2006, 01:26 PM my biggest fackin' waste mod was the colgan bra - i put it on in the winter and now one of the sides comes loose on the highway and smacks against the fender pretty badly... i had it on for maybe only 1000 miles and this crap started happening... it was a waste of $140 that i could have spent making a new laptop mount for my boxy box....
anyway, yes, i am sure that all of the straps are tight, etc, just like colgan says they should be...

I don't really have any waste mods. I like them all even though I don't have many.
destinywaste 08-27-2006, 07:12 AM Shouldn't have gotten the $1,100 deal installed moon-roof. Won't say it's a waste, but not worth the extra one-grand for Chicago weather.

battlebox 08-28-2006, 04:21 AM My biggest waste was buying a JDM speed grill look-alike off of ebay for 35 bucks. The grill had virtually no curve to it and the mounts were WAY off. In the process of refunding it now, though the dealer is only offering an exchange for a supposed "new shipment" of grills that are supposed to be higher quality... because they got other complaints of bad fitment.
Save your money and buy the real thing! $300 is worth it for the quality and factory fitment!

WeeMan 09-05-2006, 11:12 AM biggest waste of money... for me was my cold air intake. i spent bux to get it, and paint it... now its peeling and looks terrible. lucky for me the have CF ones on Ebay now for about the same amount. shoulda just spent the bux to get one that wa actually finished, and not made by me. another mod i hated were my rims. i shoulda waited, not rushed into buying them, and actually saved and shopped around. i bought a set without tires off ebay, and had a pain in the ___ time buying tires locally, only to find out a nicer pair of Rays G-Games would have cost 300 bux less look better, and be a better rim all in all!
cheap headlight bulbs, replaced headlights, had to buy new bulbs, still bought cheap-os, and now regretting the whole headlight swap! coulda saved 200 bux in bulbs and new headlights, and just gotten HID kit!!!! or NICE headlights.
DaveKennedy 09-08-2006, 01:52 PM What is it about the cargo cover that is bad? Is it poorly made? Does it not roll up easily? Does it break quickly? Any specifics would be great since I'm sure I'll have to get one. I carry lots of gear in my car and I have to have something as a "view block".

Got the same grill from ebay. I had plans to mod it anyway, but the three grills I have had on the xB so far all need to be mod'd. Buyers beware lol. All I can say is the grill I got is primer color, close to TCM. It's not chrome nor does it fit right. Luckily I got some patience with stuff like that and soon I'll be taking it apart and doing some stuff to it.
and yes so far it's the biggest waste but for 35 bucks I can't complain. I'd rather spend fun time with the B and save 250 for the supercharger fund. lol
vintage42 09-08-2006, 05:13 PM The strut bar. Installed it at 500 miles and immediately felt no difference. Removed it at 5000 miles and again immediately felt no difference. I saw no reason to keep it in view of these disadvantages:
1. Made it more difficult to install the cruise control module.
2. Prevented the air cleaner lid from being removed, making it more difficult to install the air filter.
3. Interfered with adding fluid to the brake fluid reservoir, making spills more likely.
4. Blocked access to the power steering fluid reservoir.
5. Rubbed against a rubber hose coming out of the engine cover.
Sciontuner 09-08-2006, 05:18 PM buying a knock-off bodykit, the extra 600 bucks for the real deal is worth it. dont waste 500 on a kit and a grand on a repaint for 2 years of headaches.
SecretAgentMonkey 10-11-2006, 04:45 AM Cargo Liner good.
I bought a pack of three these plastic L-shaped load holder things at Walmart for $10 and I love them. The have velcro on one side so they fasten to the cargo bed easily and they hold all my cargo perfectly still.
SecretAgentMonkey 10-11-2006, 05:09 AM I'm curious about the quick shift from the dealer. One person on this thread said he liked it. Anyone else wanna chime in on it?
pooder 10-11-2006, 12:40 PM What is it about the cargo cover that is bad? Is it poorly made? Does it not roll up easily? Does it break quickly? Any specifics would be great since I'm sure I'll have to get one. I carry lots of gear in my car and I have to have something as a "view block".It's mostly that the dang thing is hard to install and remove, and when it's installed it's in the way all the time. That, and its flexibility makes it fit poorly and not look as good as a ridgid piece would look. Of course, it wouldn't roll up if it were ridgid . . . .
I liked the setup on my '76 VW Rabbit; that was ridgid and there were cables that hoisted it out of the way when the hatch opened and let it back down when the hatch closed. When I get a round tuit, I'm going to modify my cargo cover to work like that, if I can......
kitkit201 10-20-2006, 10:11 PM I'll have to argue with the fact that the cargo cover is useless and poorly made and hard to install. You just have to hook the left side frist and then pull over to the right... how hard is that... :?
miacub88 10-21-2006, 10:04 AM I spent a few bucks on a "dask overlay kit," which turned out to be a flimsy sticker as someone else has posted. I actually put it on, and needless to say was very cheesy. I eventually took it off.
