View Full Version : Thinking about picking up a toaster...

Howdy all!

I'm thinking about picking up a toaster. I hit the dealership closest to me and
was pleasantly surprised by the no haggle selling format, and I enjoyed the
test drive.

The automatic seemed a bit clunky to me, but the stick was very smooth and
still fun to drive (I drive a vintage Porsche so that's saying a lot!).

I've already done a search, and I came up with 3000 pages of chit chat, but
nothing that really helped me....

Is there a page or a sticky of a thread somewhere with buying tips for the xB?

I'm really debating on getting a few of the dealership mods done, specifically the
panoramic power moon roof, lowered springs, and the little spoiler on the back.
Wheels and strut brace and easy stuff like that I'd just do myself afterwards.
Any tips or suggestions on this stuff?

I'm still debating on the color. I wanted the blue, but I didn't realize how black the
blue was. I was hoping for something more like the indigo pearl, plus they didn't
have any in stock and the wait could be weeks for one. If I'm going to wait weeks for
one, I figured I may as well order a limited production color if there are any left.

I'm open to any and all suggestions you all might provide!

Thanks and happy boxing!

welcome to the forum

check out the tech sections
parts sections

whats good about dealer options is you can purchase them and pay them with your monthly payments
but that is up to you

i bought a stock xB and added options myself

Good luck to ya!

the only option i would do through the dealer is the sunroof.
everything else i would buy and install after buying the car.

Welcome to the forum, I understand your dislike of the blue that's why I had my painted like the indiglo blue. But definatly agree with DG, most options you'd be better off buying on your own b/c it'll be a lot cheaper.

i was really expecting to see a real toaster, you know, GE or something.
anyway, i've got the blue and its nothing like the scion book so i would not do it again. i don't hate it , its just not what they advertise.
the problem if you get the 6 changer is when you upgrade, and i mean when to better speakers, the changer may be obsolete. there's a slew of cool head units.
i love the illuminated cup holders, 'cause it a unique mod.
the other problem when you go with a dark color car is somtimes when you want to mod it , the contrast isn't there. CF hoods are usually dark and don't really have that nice contrast that maybe an orange or white xb might have.

the blue is realy nice it was not my first color choice it was
forced on me ( take this one or wait 3 weeks ) but after i got it home and saw it under my garage lighting i fell in love with that color its more blue than you think

Thanks for the replys everyone. I'm still leaning towards
the blue, or the limited edtion orange (lava?). I didn't care
for the photo I saw of the 2.0 yellow. I can't tell if it's a
pearl/metallic or not.

I'm really thinking about the panoramic sunroof. It's
awesomely huge, but they also want $2000 for it installed.
Granted, it covered under the 3 year warranty though.
Something I'm not sure an aftermarket shop would cover
so well.

Are the rear spoilers difficult to install? Do I need to drill
for it if I buy it aftermarket and do it myself?

I'm really planning on doing cupholder lights and under
dash lights and all that myself. It's really easy considering
the background I have with computers and electronics
and some car stereo installs I've done over the years.
I'm probably looking to get an aftermarket XM radio too
since $455 upgrade for factory is a bit harsh!

Thanks again for all your replys. I'll keep in touch with
what I decide and take some photos when I get her!

Just out of curiousity, have you considered the tC? If you get a panoramic moonroof , that will pretty much make your xB cost more than the tC. All that stuff is already on the tC, and you get a better engine plus cruise control and knee airbag etc.

Do you just really like the xB? Which is fine if you do. I was just curious.

My other hobby is building tube guitar amps and speaker
and sub cabinets. So the cargo space is a plus for me.
Otherwise I was looking at getting a tc simply because it's
got similar power to what I'm used to driving. So the
cargo space in the box is what I need. Hell, I don't
even need the rear seats in the box, I could just pull them
and replace them with a sub! :)

I don't think you'd be able to find a new lava xb. I doubt you'd be able to find a used lava xb in 5spd.

Springs are an easy DYI and can be had for 150 aftermarket.

You could do that with a new tC also,

Nah, I've pretty much got my heart and head set on a box
now. I just wish the blue was like it shows on the Scion web
page and in the commercials. I spoke with my dealership,
they still haven't gotten around to my Financing yet, so
I'm still waiting...and they said the Lava was long gone.
I guess that's out too (sigh).

Camo Green is by far the best color. :lalala:

Not that I'm biased or anything. 8)

If you really want a Lava, go to auto trader and do a nation wide search for a used one. I've seen up to 20 at any given time and saw one yesterday with only 10,000 miles w/aftermarket wheels for only 15,900 bucks.

I'm all set to get the box, I've decided on blue with the
Moonroof (but nothing else). The only problem is there are
no manual transmissions in blue in a 5 state region. So
I need to eaither settle for Auto or wiat.

hotbox05

make them order you one , should be 30 days max.

Lonely_Raven

That's what I'm debating. But part of the reason I'm looking
at the box is because I was in a terrible accident two weeks
ago and my SAAB, which is my winter car was totaled.
I still have my P-Car, but I really don't want to drive it
around in the snow. Plus, I'm supposed to be visiting some
friends over the weekend, and it's a long drive. I'd really
like to do it in a new car, and not a 20 year old Porsche.

Still debating on the stick vs auto.

With auto I can get remote start and it would be a little
easier on me in Chicago traffic.

But the stick is way more fun! LOL

hotbox05
01-28-2005, 01:58 PM
u can get remote start either way. any good shop can and will bypass for cheap or nothing.

Well it's down to the wire now. One dealership has a TCM
in manual, but they overcharge for the Moonroof and have
lesser warranty for said moonroof. Or I can wait till Tues or
Wed and Get a BOP at Naperville. They are negotiating
a trade for one with a far off dealership.

Thanks to all who pointed out BOP in manual for me at all
the other dealerships. Most were accounted for, but one
is probably going to be mine!
