View Full Version : Windshield dmg twice in < 3months. Am I just "lucky&
wipeout 01-28-2005, 06:19 PM So I got my Xb the day before halloween. Two weeks into it a rock hits my windshield and puts a 6-inch crack in it, that got up to almost 2 feet before I could get it replaced. This morning another rock homes in on me and scratches the windshield. Am I lucky or what?
Has anyone else had these kind of problems? It seems to me that with the windshield angle being so high that we're more susceptible to windshield issues. Don't get me wrong though, this is the only potential issue I have with it, I love it and it's the best car I've ever driven price/performancewise.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this scratch?
i have windshield damage. i think it has to do with the angle of the windshield as well. :relief:
Eddieg 01-28-2005, 06:56 PM I must be luckier (sp) than you. Had 7 stars on 1/11. Replaced windshield on 1/12. Got 4 stars not even 18 hours later. Now on my second windshield. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket!
atomoverride 01-28-2005, 07:23 PM wierd, you can always buy that plastic cover they sell that prevents that kind of stuff.
I was replacing my foglights every time I went to LA, till finaly I bought some plastic thing that sticks over the foglights and now they have survived the last 4 times I went to LA.
chadfo 01-28-2005, 07:35 PM I'm on my second windshield too. The replacement is made by PPG. I must give them some credit, it doesn't chip as easy as the factory ones. The chips I have now are very small compared to the ones I had on the factory windshield. I had a rock hit it the other day so hard I thought someone had just rammed my car. It made a visible mark but didn't make any crack.
hotbox05 01-28-2005, 07:42 PM i've got like 2 stars now , too bad they can"fix" them but not actually FIX them.
chadfo 01-28-2005, 07:45 PM True. I had one fixed on the factory windshield. You could still see it but they said it wouldn't spread. That was no consolation to me. Fortunately in SC insurance has to pay to replace windshields.
Pimpe_Ok 01-28-2005, 07:47 PM  omg 3 days ago i got my first damig to the windo not the first time been hit with rocks though and the "Fix" it in like 2 minets.... still love the car though..... lol heres something to get your mind a working.... take a look at your bumper and hood i bet u will find paint missing.... theis are also at a virtical angle....
JdMBboFSD 01-28-2005, 07:47 PM i got one star ...thats it....i dont drive that much that is probably why .... :P
TheScionicMan 01-28-2005, 07:50 PM It's definitely about the angle and also the short hood. I've got 3-4 chips and stars in mine but they've never spread (knocking on wood) The first one came at 3 weeks old and still hasn't moved, so I can't complain about the OEM glass...
I don't know if you can use the film on a windshield like on the fogs and such. Probably wouldn't play nice with the wipers, but IDK, maybe they make it for that application...
bB2NER 01-28-2005, 08:00 PM I've learned to not tailgate and mine has survived 10,000 miles with only 1 small tiny nick. Rule of thumb I find safe is like 2-3 car lengths and avoid getting behind anything that looks like it has been at a building sight. LOL

I actually use this same tactic .....it works ....
CrushXB 01-28-2005, 08:09 PM I thought I was lucky....7 Miles into ownership and a rock smacks my windshield leaving a nice star. Paid 50 bucks for the star to become a faded star. Joy. Sounds like I am not the only one. I guess I will wait for more stars till I replace the windshield. I was quoted 730 bucks from the dealership....363 from an independent glass place my insurance recommended.
Anybody have any idea's how to prevent it....like that plastic stuff? I already do the safe distance thing...
