NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 03:00 AM EDIT:
I want to thank everyone for their interest and for all the love you guys and girls have showed me over the past 2 years. I have met Many cool people from all walks of life and want to say thank you for letting me work on your car even if it was just powder coating.
I hope everyone enjoys the work I have done, and I hope the mods can leave this thread around because it does have TONS of great info on powder coating
It was an AMAZING experience and I would do it all over again.
The reason why I am stopping is because I will be moving out of state in the near future due to a career change.
I hopefully will have my own shop one day and I will not forget about scionlife.com when I do get it opened up
Atomic Coating is now Closed Aug 2009- Sept 2011
purpled_out_tC 08-15-2009, 03:05 AM GL with this, if you were in South FL i'd give you a shot.
NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 03:22 AM Thanks Man :)
EDIT: Your not a man LOL
Thanks Buddy :)
purpled_out_tC 08-15-2009, 03:26 AM or chic, that works better for me. lol, np. really do wish you were in SoFL i have a few items, but shipping wouldn't be worth it.
NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 03:35 AM What kind of pieces do you have? Shipping might not be that bad if its nothing huge and shipped ground
Mos_Def 08-15-2009, 03:37 AM how much would you charge for a valve cover for a tc? i painted mine, but its not that great. i would like to get it powdercoated. also will you be able to take the valve cover off at your place since i would have to drive down there? let me know in a pm whats up. thanks.
ack154 08-15-2009, 03:45 AM Well I recently got into powder coating, and wanted to see if anyone was interested in letting me do some parts for them for pretty cheap. I am using a standard 30'' oven for now so whatever you can pretty much fit in your oven at home I can powdercoat.
Im really interested in doing some Valve Covers. I have been doing lots of powder coating on motorcycle pegs/levers/bolts with great results. Ill post some before/after pics when I Get home.
Since im just starting out I only have basic colors. Mirror Black(Super high gloss), Flat Black, Chrome, Sparkle Sliver, White, Red, Yellow, Candy Blue and Candy Pink. Although I can get pretty much any color you want.
I dont claim to be a professional but my prices will relflect that lol. Im sure my price will be the lowest you find, and I havent had one complaint from any people on the work I have done. I wouldnt charge someone for anything I wouldnt want.
Please No rims just yet, I cant fit them in my blasting cabinet... Anyone want to do some business?
If I were you, I'd look into getting a new OEM valve cover to have available for people. That way you can do a core charge type of thing. They're about $160 or so (hit up TRDSparks)... and my guess is people would want that back in exchange for their cover. That means not being without a cover for them!
That's what I did when I got mine coated. Had no trouble selling my original one after the new one was installed.
NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 03:56 AM how much would you charge for a valve cover for a tc? i painted mine, but its not that great. i would like to get it powdercoated. also will you be able to take the valve cover off at your place since i would have to drive down there? let me know in a pm whats up. thanks.
Pm'ed you
ACK154 - Im actually looking on ebay for one right now :)

NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 05:13 AM if u have gloss black or mayb flat black what do u think, btw my car is still not done waaaaaa>>

jesse08 08-15-2009, 05:15 AM I've got both right now, I think flat would look killer
killer it is lol, Flat black man :icon_biggrin:
Aroddalobster 08-15-2009, 06:14 AM valve covers, brakes, strut bars, wheels, hell, even lug nuts are all pretty easy things to do. i'm guessing a a good bit of SM would want some of theirs to be painted.
SuShIxFiSh 08-15-2009, 05:10 PM wanna try oem rims?
HKSpeed 08-15-2009, 07:20 PM can you powdercoat a stainless steel muffler? will the powdercoat stay on the muffler after its put back on the car despite the heat and stainless steel material? I have an HKS hi-power axle-back, so i dont know if it would fit in your oven. i want to powdercoat it flat black.
pic I found online.

I want it to look like this. painting is not a good option since paint doesnt stick to stainless steel very well.

NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 07:52 PM wanna try oem rims?
I cant fit them in my blasting cabinet, once i make some money off small parts ill buy a big cabinet
NVMyTc 08-15-2009, 07:55 PM HKSpeed - my oven is too small. You would need to cut the can off and have it rewelded....
Im going to start building my own huge oven as soon as i make some money lol
madpanda331 08-15-2009, 08:00 PM hey man can you do calipers? how much???

NVMyTc 08-20-2009, 04:00 AM Here is a little project I did today. It was the my exhaust heat shield on my bike.
I forgot to take a pic after sandblasting, but you get the idea of the process
After degreasing...
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s292/NVMyTC/8cc87cf3.jpg
Then I sandblasted it and outgassed the part for 1 hour. This gets all the gases out of the aluminum to give a smooth final finish. I forgot to take a pic :(
Then shot the flat black powder
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s292/NVMyTC/350ed0ce.jpg
baked for 20 minutes and BAM! Sexy exhaust heat shield

Is that a paint code? There is no way to exactly color match powder coat to an existing liquid paint code. I can show you a list of oranges I am able to order and you can choose from there. let me know if that works for you.

I would need to have the mirrors in my hand to give an exact quote, but it looks to be around $20 for each mirror (make sure to remove the mirror, I wouldnt want it to crack in the oven)
Valve covers are $60 for one coat, candy colors are extra
INFINI 09-23-2009, 07:46 AM I would love to talk to you about multiple things I owuld like to chrome or powdercoat in the engine bay at some point soon. Is your Chrome resistant to heat if it's a Valve cover?

Yes powder coat is very resistant to heat, a powder coated valve cover will last a long long time.
I also put a clear on all my chrome powder coat, this is to prevent fading and improve its durability.
dirtyblonde13 09-23-2009, 05:02 PM Definitely. Once I get my piping and make sure it all fits up to par, I'll most likely be sending it your way!! :icon_mrgreen:

The wrinkle red powder coat can take the heat no problem. I charge $60 for the valve cover
Yes those pipes can be powder coated, I just dont know if they can fit in my oven. I use a standard 30" house oven.
Is the turbo kit already installed on your car? If it isn't, take the largest pipes and see if they fit in your house oven. If they do, I can coat them :)

The high temp powder coat on the manifold will eventually flake/bubble/chip since it can only take 1500* and the exhaust manifold can get as hot as 1800*+ under load.
The only reason why the customer wanted the manifold coated was because it was covered in rust and he wants to sell it. So he had me sandblast it and coat it so it would sell faster.
If you want your manifold coated, it would have to be ceramic coated. I have never done ceramic coating but Im not scared to try lol
Measure those pipes and Ill see if I can help you out :)
And I think I want a PC3 for my bike now that I think of it LOL
JOHNNYZX10R 09-26-2009, 06:09 PM Ok no problem i will get the measure of the pipes today and what year is your bike i see is a cbr 600rr but is it 03 04 or the 05 06 model thanks

This is my girlfriends PLASTIC injector cover. She wanted Candy Orange w/Black Lettering . Since the plastic cannot hold an electrical charge very well i had to "hot flock" the powder on the plastic which means heat the plastic up to 150*-180* then QUICKLY apply the powder. Its as hard as it sounds haha

It will be $85, but you would need to remove the bearing before you give it to me to coat
BlkTC 11-17-2009, 06:46 AM hey jp, how much would it cost to do T's piping?? lmao.. hehe if they look like crap when you guys take it off, i might consider some PC cause they'll be at your house anyway.. lol

I charge $12-$15 a foot. So it should be around $120, i would need to measure it to get an exact quote

I really dont advertise it since my oven right now is small and I have to do 1 rim at a time.
But yes I can do rims :)
I have done about 4 sets of 17's, my oven should be able to hold 19's right now

ohh damn.. u got me all excited.. i was about to bring you my car.. HAHA :P
but yeah, i got some people that are pretty interested, but they're just unsure about how much stuff they want painted to match what they initially got PC'ed
NVMyTc 11-21-2009, 02:01 PM mmm im still new to bike mechanics..theres no way you can remove it for me?
Sorry I didnt reply sooner I got hit on my bike and hurt my leg...
But there are a few options for you.
1. I can take the wheel to get the bearing pressed out then you have to pay to get a new bearing pressed in
2. I cover the bearing with a 2 washers with a bolt and nut securing them together. This is what most people do who do not want to remove the bearing. If you choose this method I cannot guarantee that your bearing will not be damaged by the heat of the oven or get sand in it from the sandblasting. Chances are the bearing will be fine I just cant guarantee that it will be

What do you mean if I have colors of any chrome Valve covers? Do you mean candy colors? or if I have pics of chrome powder coated valve covers
I really like the wrinkle look on valve covers. I would do wrinkle red or black, they look awesome. But if you want something different, I can do candy Orange or Candy Red. I can almost guarantee you will be one of the only people with a valve cover like that
Let me know if you have any more questions or if you want some pics of any color :)
rosedaleny806 11-21-2009, 06:14 PM no I mean like chrome chrome lol idk I like them all but can't choose just one u know. I woul love candy blue or sum sort of blue. can wrinkle blue be done?
NVMyTc 11-21-2009, 11:00 PM no I mean like chrome chrome lol idk I like them all but can't choose just one u know. I woul love candy blue or sum sort of blue. can wrinkle blue be done?
I don't do chrome, only powder coating
Here is a metallic blue wrinkle
http://www.powderbuythepoundwest.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=46_37&products_id=1871
If you want a different blue wrinkle, it can be custom ordered from the same supplier but the charges will be past on to you as it will be a one off custom color just for you
rosedaleny806 11-22-2009, 06:46 AM oh man that looks so good. has any1 done that yet?
how much would it be for a VC of urs then ill return mine (remember mines blue already, but I hate it)
NVMyTc 11-23-2009, 05:06 AM oh man that looks so good. has any1 done that yet?
how much would it be for a VC of urs then ill return mine (remember mines blue already, but I hate it)
No one has done it yet, I would have to order it for you
Is your painted or powder coated?
I charge a $50 core fee, so you would pay $60 for the powder coating itself then $50 for the core fee (which will be returned once I get your core back to me) then return shipping which is about $12-$17 usually.
Let me know if you have any questions :)
