Default scratches on the bumper... first accident

ok so my xb is up to about 2200 miles now (in only one month... at this rate my warrenty is gonna last a year and a half).

Anyhow, had my first accident with the car. Nothing major... person behind me was driving too fast smacked my xb (while both cars were in motion.. some people are just idiots). Yeah so not a big deal, bumper isn't even deformed... BUT.. it did leave those weird paint swap marks (and in white too). I didn't get around to really looking at it (cuz of all the snow) and I finally got the car washed today...

only to find a lot of weird scratches and stuff on the bumper. Some of it couldn't have come from the accident. I'm not even totally sure where some of the scratches came from. I'm kinda suspecting the reports of some scions not having good paint jobs playing a part. Some are on top of the bumper so I'm thinking I can probably cover that up with the applique is necessary (was thinking about getting it anyway) or buff it out as some people have reported doing.

BUT there are also various parts of the bumper that have chips (where its like the paint "shell" just came off). it isn't big or really noticeable.

my question is though... is there anything I can do about it? Should I get it repainted?
the problem is NYC is pretty rough on bumpers in general (people "bumper tag" when parking. So chances are its gonna get scuffed or worse again. Is there an economical way to refinish it (i.e. do it myself?)

Or should I just let it degenerate and plan to get a new one every so often....?

The paint chipping could be from the accident. Flexing the poly bumper cover can cause the paint to crack even far away from the impact.
