HELLO…

Hello my fellow Scion Enthusiast. My name is Ricky, I’m 19, I've been a part of the Scion Community for about three years now. I've been a member of ScionLife before I even had owned a Scion. I got my 2006 Scion tC when I was only 16 and had done some heavily modding as the time went on.
I decided to change my name on the forum, because out of the 2309432908 forums I'm on, the one on ScionLife is the only one that was different so I just got bored and decided to change it since I never posted on my old one and I didn’t like my name. Not that it is important just thought I would say. I basically go on here to check out some unique Scions that people have been working on and the classified section to see if there are any goodies. So if you got goodies you think I might want or need just let me know.

But anyways, I’ll share some pictures and stories of how my car has progress throughout the years.

THE DECISION…

When I was 15, my parents asked me what kind of car I wanted when I turned 16. I gave them a list of what I wanted: Mitsubishi Evo VIII, Honda S2000, Lexus IS300, blah blah. Well, it was obvious that I was dreaming big, especially for a kid my age. My family isn’t rich, but they just wanted me to do exactly what their parents did when they were my age. When my dad was around 22, he got a 1988 Toyota Supra (which he still has to this day) and my mom had a Yellow 1980-something Camaro and had a Mustang too. My mom and her brothers and sisters were the blessed with nice cars too. So they did the same thing to their kids, they all bought them brand spanking new cars: my cousin got his 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX when he was 18 and my other cousin a 2006 Scion tC when she was 19. When I finally reached 16, I asked my dad for an Evo but he said it was ugly. (Are you kidding me?!) But I had two choices, my choices had to be Toyotas because I was able to get a discount because my grandpa works in the regional in Aurora so I pay invoice price and don’t have to deal with sales people. One was a Scion tC and the other was a Lexus IS250 AWD. Of course, my first choice was the Lexus, but then my dad said if I were to get a Lexus it would need to have the navigation on it, because he thinks it defeats the purpose of a Lexus if it doesn’t have navigation on it. He saw the price on a base model and was okay with it, but until that navigation was added it on like $4000-5000 more he said forget it. I was upset and told him I would just buy an aftermarket one and still he said no. Besides, what would a 16 year old do with a Lexus anyways and insurance for sure would go sky high. So I settled for the Scion tC.

HOW IT ALL STARTED…

I waited about six weeks for my car to come in. The longest six weeks of my life and I’m already on ScionLife seeing how I can make my car look nice and unique. I had already purchased an HKS Hi-Power Exhaust a week before I even got my car. So I finally picked up my 2006 Black Sand Pearl Scion tC on June 13, 2006 around 11:15am with 3 miles on it. As soon as I got home, I slapped that HKS exhaust on and drove everywhere the whole day.

(Sorry I’ll find some pics for these soons)

A week later, my Hotchkis springs came in (I don’t like to waste time modding) lol. That same week I also got rid of the horse whip antenna and threw in a S2000 antenna and a Cobra Radar detector.
As winter started coming, I stored my car for the winter and drove my mom’s Toyota Rav-4.

MY STYLE…

Everyone has their own taste on style and what they look for. Some people like the big aluminum wings, altezza headlights, body kits that don’t even fit, a big windshield decal that says APC with a Honda Civic that has a GT-R emblem on the front of it, and a knock-ya-mama exhaust… not my style. What I look for are a clean and simple look, I like to keep it FRESH. I refuse to put decals on my windows; I don’t need the whole world to know that I have something that’s Tein or Injen on my car. So like I said, I like something clean and simple that goes with the cars body lines.
2007 was a big year for me to start modding my car and I wanted to show off my car at local car shows. So the mods started coming and coming.

The spring was here and I needed to get as much power as possible, even the littlest amount will help me. So I got the HKS Racing Suction Intake, I haven’t seen a lot of people with this intake, which is kind of cool and I think they only made it for 2005-2006. Also, got a Hotchkis Front Strut Bar for better handling and it is a BIG difference when its on.

HOW I GOT INTO CARS…

I honestly can say that I didn’t know much about cars when I first started. I knew the basics and stuff because I grew up with family members that are gear heads. So that’s how I learned, from them and of course my fellow friends on ScionLife and other forums.

I was surrounded by Supras in my family. Its very hard to believe but my dad and his three brothers all owned Supras.

My dad owns a 1988 Toyota Supra MKIII in Maroon.

My uncle that works for Toyota owned a 1990 Toyota Supra MKIII in Black.

My uncle that lives in Vegas owns a 1996 Toyota Supra MKIV in Black Special Edition with the Gold emblems.

And one of my favorite uncles that I’m very close with has owned about 12+ different kinds of Supras over a course of like 10 years. Why? Because he’s in love with Supras. He has probably owned every color that the MKIII had came out with. Crazy I know. His first Supra was actually the Celica Supra back when he was in high school. Then later got into the MKIII scene, he has driven to many dealerships looking for them and keeps them to fix and repaint to resell them for a higher cost. Even drove down to Tennessee to pick a black MKIV, which was my favorite until he sold a year after back in like 2002. He just recently sold his 1989 Toyota Supra MKIII to a 15 year old kid that only has a permit for $6700. Probably one of the cleanest MKIII along with my dad’s I’ve seen today.

At the same time, he has his 1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo MKIV. Which he still has today and has been doing some modding and has won a lot of trophies for at local car shows.

I never paid for any labor to be done to my car. I’ve learned to do everything for myself. Even painting, my uncle has been doing painting for his own cars on the side for fun and thought me how to do it. So the next major mod that I wanted to do was to get a lip kit. I’ve looked at every lip kit that was made for the tC and settled for one, which was the RS1 Lip Kit. I also found the lip kit for sale in the classified section from a member from ScionLife. I prepped, primered, and painted it myself with the help of my uncle.

It was time for me to go to shows and afterwards I started getting addicted to competing at them. I’m not the kind of person that cares if I win trophies or not. I only go to show people my work and to see some of others work and to meet new people. Getting trophies is just a bonus and makes me proud that the work I’ve done impresses people.

GOT BOOST?

Performance Autowerks (Plainfield, Illinois), October 27-December 22, 2007

At the age of 17, I came to the decision after watching several YouTube videos of Turbo’ed tCs and was blown away that I needed to be boosted! I’ve been searching around and looked at the classifieds for used turbos and asked my co-workers from Scion what they thought (I used to be a transporter at one of the dealerships). They told me I shouldn’t buy it used because the previous owner might of beat the ish out of it. So my friend suggested to go custom and I didn’t know anyone that could help me boost for a cheap price. Luckily, my friend who had done some work for a friend to build cars for SEMA owns a shop, Performance Autowerks. It took me about three months working at Toyota to save up all the money I need for the kit. I gave them a call and they REALLY helped me out. They told me they needed some time with my car. They estimated at least four weeks, which was fine for me since they weren’t charging me labor for it (see I still don’t pay for labor, lol, so it doesn’t count). All I had to pay was the parts for them to order. Unfortunately, four weeks was enough, because two weeks into it they didn’t like how the manifold turned out and they said the turbo was too small (originally was getting a 16g BIG EVO III Turbo, thank God) and upgraded it to a Garrett t3/t4 .50 Trim turbo for FREE. So after seven long weeks and boosted car later, they offered to sponsor my car as long as I get their name out more.

See link: http://www.PerformanceAutowerks.com

Parts included: Garrett Precision t3/t4 .50 Trim Turbo, HKS Super Sequential Blow Off Value, Tial 38mm Wastegate, AEM Dry Flow Filter, Custom 3” Intake Pipe, Custom 2.5” Downpipe, Custom Manifold, Recirculated Dump Tube, GReddy eManage Blue & 550cc Fuel Injectors.

Total: $2673.51

Few days later, I wanted to get all digital gauges for my newly turbo setup. I purchased my triple gauge pod from Creative Compact and got all AEM gauges: Tru Boost, Air/Fuel UEGO Wideband, & Oil Pressure. I also painted my engine cover, fuse box cover, and all interior pieces to perfectly match my car’s paint. I never had the chance to drive it after I got it, only when I had to drive it back home, because it was winter and stored it for the winter time once again.

If you guys didn't notice, my car original didn't have an intercooler when it came straight out of Performance Autowerks. So I made the custom piping and put the intercooler on myself.

People kept bugging me to put some wheels on my car, so I got some temporarily ones until I can afford to purchase high end wheels.

Libertyville Halloween Show (Libertyville, Illinois), October 25, 2008
I won Best Halloween Exterior. I kinda went crazy last year, plus I was working at KB Toys before it closed down in February so I had all these free stuff for Halloween. I had a Jabbawockee on my sunroof bleeding and spiderwebs all over my car with a fog/light machine and thunder playing through the speakers. Pretty creative, but I think I have something better for this year.

Show season came to an end and it was time to get started on something, which was getting a BIGGER intercooler for my turbo setup. It was for an Evo IX GReddy Turbo Kit that I had to custom make new pipings for the new intercooler myself without cutting the bumper.

Don't mind the quality these are from my phone. I originally wanted to do three subs but changed my mind and just did two subs and made the middle part a slot for the amp to rest. The last pic was just a cover up for a show in Iowa, its just had a black cloth wrapped over it. Its actually gonna be painted to match my car.

Setup: Two 12" Eclipse SW6210, Eclipse ZA1200 Amplifier, and Massive Capacitor

I know my photos aren't that great. I promise to get a nice photoshoot with a professional camera and I will continue to update and keep you guys posted.

Thanks for looking you guys!

Haha, I've always been good with money and had the ability to be able to save my money for something that I want. I love Supras and all, but I prefer other cars, plus they are hella expensive to mod. lol. I've driven my dad's supra plenty of times too.

No, that red Supra was my uncle's. I will get pictures posted of my dad's soon enough. That gray MKIII was actually at Another Level too. The kid that bought it from him brought it there he was on the incline at the top of the garage.

To be honest, I don't know they haven't uploaded any new pictures of the cars they've worked on since 2006, because they also have sponsored a supercharged tC that they build and now making it turbocharged. I never gave it really much thought. I should talk to them about that, but I don't really care though. lol. If they want to put my car up on their site they are more than welcome to.

Thanks guys from all the feedback!

Haha, he won't sell them unless he decides to get a new car. He had to wait four months to get it shipped from Japan. They look nice as hell though!
