Default Just got a new TC with the standard sound option, should I upgrade?

Hello,

I just bought an '09 Scion TC RS 5.0 yesterday which I love

I picked up the standard sound option since I noticed that the premium sound option only came with a better head unit and I could make a decision later about what to do. Do you think I should upgrade the sound at a scion dealer or buy a third party part and install it? Pro's and Con's?

I love that these vehicles come standard with ipod connections, absolutely awesome value for the money

I would start with an aftermarket head unit and go from there. Scions come with very good speakers and aftermarket units have a lot better sound quality than the stock units.

well, i went through the same delema when i first bought my 09' tC. luckily the guy i bought my car from i've known him since i was 10 (currently 20). He said its honestly not worth it. from my understanding its just a expensive headunit. IMO i rather spend the money for a double din but thats just me.

Get the Pioneer FH-P8000BT. I love it and everything about it is amazing. At least check it out.

First of all, let me say that I really don't know anything about stereo systems! lol

I was wondering how a new HU would effect the sound? I'm decently content with the current sound. I really just want more bass.

Im pondering putting a small sub under both driver and passenger seat. Like I said, I don't know much and just started thinking about upgrading the sound. (I don't even know if its possible to put subs underneath the seats) I figure that the subs would cost about $300 which would save a couple bucks compared to getting a new HU.

A head unit can help with the sound, but not provide more bass. Try this:

Would need an amp and amp install kit.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is NO room for subs under the seats. MAYBE enough for a small amp but no subs.
You could run subs off your current stock headunit using a harness to convert your speaker wires into rca's for your amp.
All in all the adaptor harness, amp, sub box, wiring kit, and decent subs would cost you like 300-350. I'd upgrade the headunit but thats just me.

harness

If you want more bass, it's not going to come from door speaker upgrades or a headunit alone. You'll need an amp and sub. There are factory 6" subs that go under the rear hatch carpet near the spare tire. They provide somewhat decent bass but nothing that'll rattle your mirrors.
