View Full Version : darker bumper on xb bumper
brekdown59 01-30-2005, 11:56 PM I have a Black Cherry Pearl xB. and today someone pointed out to me that the front bumper of my car was 2 shades darker than the rest of my car (or at least the quarter panels) the car was in direct sunlight. about 4 hours later i went to look at it again. and i could not see any difference at all. kinda weird and wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this slight difference??????
flowmini98 01-30-2005, 11:58 PM could just be the way the light was hitting it at the time
brekdown59 01-31-2005, 12:03 AM yeah im not to sure. i sure would like to think that but everybody that was going to the meeting i was at basically noticed.
xbneedy 01-31-2005, 12:34 AM the bumper is black underneath, the body is silver underneath. Using the exact same primer and paint it will be slightly off. Also the paint on the bumpers has a flexible component added to it to keep it from cracking if it gets bumped.
hotbox05 01-31-2005, 01:10 AM well the pearly colors change colors in different light , especially the green , blue and red , hell even the thundercloud , it changes from silver to goldish , lol
brekdown59 01-31-2005, 01:11 AM sweet thanks man. i was thinking that about it being black plastic. but it never really hit me. thanks for the
Fridion 01-31-2005, 02:39 PM my camo fornt bumper is slightly different. My buddy at a body shop said that most of the time, the bumpers are painted separatly from the rest of the car. (because of that flex agent added to the paint) So, the metalics lay down differently because of the different spray gun...
Fridion 01-31-2005, 02:40 PM bad part is, now that you know its diferent, it will drive you crazy whenever you see it...
UnFocused 01-31-2005, 03:32 PM Yeah, my TCM has a gold tint to it every once in a while- My xB is the same way
( bumpers darker than the rest of the car)
Dont feel bad, my mom's 28K Camry is the same way- even after she had the bumper repainted ( my brother washed it with a brillow pad)....
brekdown59 01-31-2005, 04:04 PM damn so it isnt just a stroke of bad luck. i thought it was. well thanks everyone.
bB2NER 02-01-2005, 06:41 AM my camo fornt bumper is slightly different. My buddy at a body shop said that most of the time, the bumpers are painted separatly from the rest of the car. That confirms what I was told exactly. Now if someone notices I can tell them why and the fact that they all do that from the factory :relief:
Sciond 02-01-2005, 01:00 PM yep..it is real hard to match even with a custom paint job
brekdown59 02-01-2005, 04:18 PM thats so crazy glad its not just me
Taknitez 02-01-2005, 09:02 PM Ditto here on my thundercloud. Thought it was just mine and then started noticing it on the others as well. Also heard that it could be that they use a thicker paint on them to protect them from bugs and parking lot low-speed mishaps.
But the "painting separately because of flex agents" and "black bumper" underneath makes total sense as well.
-Peace
TheScionicMan 02-01-2005, 09:21 PM Also the angle of the surface can make a difference...
